We have some news for you about one of our own family members here. Voice of the Browns and former three new sports director, Jim Donovan has announced a short time ago that he is stepping down from calling games for the team because his cancer is returned. Yeah, he made that announcement in a letter to fans. Jay Crawford is here with more on that. Now, Jay and Matt and Christie, this is a very tough day because anyone who knows Jim Donovan knows what calling these games means to him. But as he was gearing up for the 2024 season, Jimmy made the difficult decision to step down as voice of the Browns in order to focus on his health, Jimmy wrote and released a letter to Browns fans within the last 10 minutes. Hello Browns fans everywhere. Well, the regular season is finally here. Can you imagine the atmosphere inside Browns stadium when the Cowboys and Browns kick it off? It will be electric. It'll be epic. Unfortunately, I will not be calling the game on the Browns Radio network. I've called my last Browns game and that's why I'm writing to you as many of, you know, I've been dealing with cancer for many years. I've gone through every treatment imaginable, but my cancer is a defiant opponent and has returned and very aggressively. This will require me to devote everything I have in me to continue the fight and my family and I are committed to doing that. I've called Browns Games for 25 years. Not a day has gone by when I haven't paused and been so proud to be the voice of the Browns, Cheryl Megan. And I thank you for all the love support and prayers during my rough patches. It's like having a huge family around us and that's what makes the Cleveland Browns so special. You do. Now, let's get to those cowboys and make this 2425 season. A great one. I'll be watching and listening. Here we go. Brownies. Here we go. It's been an honor, Jim Donovan. Now as Jimmy continues his fight, Brown's nation is behind him every step of the way, Jimmy, we are thinking of you. We're praying for you and Cheryl and Megan. Matt and Christie. You could not have said it any differently because it just encompasses everything we all think about here about Jimmy. We are indeed praying for all of them. Thank you Jay so much.
