we're going to Cal we're going out west one of the new ACC teams yeah will this is one that yeah you uh this is one that you got to kind of watch up close and personal a little bit last year I yeah it was shocking some of the the the stats I saw on Cal last year so you said it earlier we were talking that Auburn Cal game last year must have just been an a stinker for both teams uh because it was ugly yeah I'm looking at this you know I got my notes right here and I'm looking at what Cal brings to table I mean I will tell you I love their combination of quarterback and running back um I think that's what stands out to me immediately they bring back a guy like Jaden a he is by far and you put it here their biggest offensive weapon over 1300 yards 12 touchdowns they bring in transfer quarterback Chandler Rogers from North Texas who had a career year uh you talk about a guy he's gonna be I believe a six-year senior he is this is his fourth School counting Joo when he was at blind College he's a season vet and I think if you're cow and you're transitioning to a new conference it's a transition year there's no better guy I know he's not maybe familiar with the system but a guy who's played a lot of college football and played a lot of snaps you know with what he wants to do so I love what their offense has and it's another thing where hey it was a defense that was in the 100s can they be better but it feels like with Jade not and chanon Rogers they're gonna get a chance they should be a lot better on defense Justin Willcox defensive guy that's how he got this job the defense he built at Wisconsin uh but their defense was really bad 114th in Total Defense last year in Pack 12 that I mean you had a couple good offenses USC was a good offense who they almost beat by the way you had Oregon out there but there's there not a good enough conference where you're sitting 114th in in a major conference like that Cal added 21 players in the portal this cycle 15th portal class uh big additions coming in on defense Wagner from Oklahoma Ryan Yates a guy you saw a lot of at LSU yeah U sering tonara sure that name Edge rusher from Missouri uh those three guys right there should should really improve that defense improve that pass rush um my big question looking at their schedule is how will travel affect this team they have a four game stretch where they go to Florida state they're off we yeah they get a buy they host Miami then they go back cross country to pit and then come home to NC State that's regardless of travel that's probably the toughest four game stretch on their schedule and know by the way two weeks before that they got to come play Auburn so they're going to be traversing back and forth for what's that six seven consecutive weeks um how does that affect them especially in the middle of the of of the Season like this um so you know that that four game swing is going to mean a lot um so I'm I I'm tagging their ceiling at seven and5 in the Floor of three- n it's really how does Rogers come in can Ro can Chandler Rogers come in and win this starting job last year at North Texas 29 touchdowns five interceptions through for 3,300 yards I don't care what conference you're playing in that's impressive um can he come in can he improve um their guy last year Mendoza is a true freshman and you said his his offers this dude's a brain genius he was like fi Yale Harvard I mean FIU was like the one kind of this one doesn't belong to to his offering right right so like yeah you know that should improve quarterback improves they bring a back uh but other than that man I'm not expecting much from Cal yeah and and I want to say this too and hey look we got a new viewer true simol says interesting ACC content glad to see it and then you talk about cal um you know I talked I said earlier I was talking with someone who has a North Texas podcast and he's a North Texas grad I said what should I know about Chan the Rogers like what is something I know and he just said playmaker like it falls right in line with what Thomas Cason casos can be and I feel like there's a lot of those quarterbacks in this conference and so if you have quarterback figured out then then you're going to be able to do some things and I I I think that is like the biggest thing that we're trying to harp on here is like if you have that position figured out that's super important Cal it feels like has that figured out with who they brought in now is that going to change some of the things defensively I don't know like we've seen Georgia Tech fans have seen it you know they have seen what it looks like when you don't have the defensive side of the football you it limits to what you can do during the season and I think that's why we have this ceiling and flooor so low so I'll go ahead and kind of spoil it and I think that you I think we're sitting on the same page here that ceiling I think you could find a way to seven wins like there is a path if things hit right for you now you mentioned that stretch from September 21st really until October 19th October 26th and then you get that bye the first week of November that's daunting that's daunting but look there's a chance and I know you don't want to address it there's a chance if things hit right you could Al and win a football game um there's a very good chance yeah you could go into alurn and win a football game um you could you know go to pit we think we you're G to hear about what we think about pit a little bit later on it won't be long don't worry the back half of that schedule I will tell you right now there's only one game I don't think they win it's at SMU I think you can beat Stanford you can beat you could beat Syracuse you get him at home you could beat Wake Forest so is there a path to seven wins I think I I I think that you're sitting there in a situation to where seven 75 is that ceiling if things go wrong Chandler Rogers you know knock on wood gets hurt and and just that defense doesn't get figured out which you kind of talked about will Cox's bread and butter three and nine might be kind of the floor and that's where I got it yeah I I just think and this is going to be a theme for for every team in the ACC now what does travel do how does travel affect because we've never seen teams having to go cross country it'll be the same thing in the Big 10 you know how do teams adjust going cross country how do they practice during the week like that's going to be a massive thing especially like Cal they're going they go to Florida State come home for two weeks play Miami go back out west back out east to pit and then come back out west play NC State it's ridiculous and then those last four games you talk about they go two wake Force coming off that byy they go back home play Syracuse and Stanford and then go to SMU not as far but that's much more navigable that four game stretch but yeah not expecting a lot from from these guys I feel like will Cox he's been there long enough you kind of know what you're G to get with cal um and and shockingly the defense hasn't been very good um but yeah seven and five I don't see much more than seven and five yeah I mean it can be in a transition season where you can have success I think if you can get to a bowl game that's considered a success over under six and a half to me that's a little high that that that's just a little high and you can kind of see where we sit that and we'll have a you know as the summer rolls along we'll really dive into these over under totals
