NC State QB Grayson McCall discusses game week against Western Carolina and preparing for the season

how are you feeling game week it's finally here uh it's a good feeling week one's always a little unique um obviously don't have a lot of tape to look at so we're looking at last year's stuff and um you know what their coaching staff's done in the past and uh got an extra week to prepare so um just taking it day by day we feel good feel like we're ready to go um had a really good day today so feel good about it what has to that to you about Western Carolina yeah I think um you know they were a good football team last year they're really good on offense um not very multiple on defense but they shown to to do some different things so um we're really focused on us to go out there and have a good game plan go out there execute get to watch a little football this weekend how cool was that to watch college football you guys not playing yeah man it's exciting I think obviously really good game in the ACC so um a good one to learn off of just you know as a football player watching at different uh situations that game were fun to watch so uh it was it was a good weekend of football for sure you were Nam Camp last week yeah yeah I mean one of my biggest goals coming here was to get the respect my teammates and be elected team captain so it's a special feeling um it's an honor um so I'm really excited about it to to leave my guys every day and um know that the guys trust me and that the coaching staff trust me to Le the guys it's a good family kind of Happ Spirit you expect Thursday night yeah I've heard a lot about it uh ready to finally see I've heard we got some of the best fans in the country so I think it's sold out so excited to go out there and see uh all the fans the environment and play some good football have you ever been to a game even as a fan say it again have you ever been to a game I I've never been to a game so this this would be my first experience so I'm pretty excited about how do you kind of like settle those pregame Jitters yeah I mean I'm I'm I'm always nervous going into the game but uh you know once I go out there and the ball snap one time I'm usually good to go so uh just really rely on my preparation my training go out there and feel good about the plan when we last week there's a lot of talk about the offensive line just how much experience there will be in front of you what have you noticed just in can Spring ball and rep just having so much experience kind of play in front of you great group of guys I think coach 2J does a really good job leading those guys every day really pushes the standard each and every day and a lot of experience a lot of toughness on that that front five so uh feel really confident sitting in the pocket behind those guys and you know really just uh just love interacting with those guys every day is it different so many of you all last year called football yeah I think it makes it unique um you know coach Dorne always talks about The Hourglass and the sand running out and I think um there's a lot of guys in this football team that just have a little bit left in The Hourglass so uh makes the season unique and you know taking advantage of every day and um really soaking it all in to go there and have a really good season this year does that make it even even more urgent for you as as a player as a quarterback this year the urgency will be there for you and how can that elevate a team especially from your position yeah absolutely I think it kind of pushes the note you know our our word of the week this week is urgency um starting off week one with the word urgency so um just really getting out there you know pushing the momentum pushing the the system to to get up and go and um you know I think with a lot of older guys that um you know this is their last season I think it really pushes that in the right direction so um you know that leadership definitely takes the team in the right direction n State's had some great quarterbacks over the years how do you start of find the balance of maintaining that standard but also being your own back yeah I think just going out there and being myself I think uh being Grayson McCall this far in my career has brought me a lot of success so um just just trying to be the best version of me leaning on my teammates and um allowing them to make plays just um you know really focusing on my preparation and going out there and feeling good about the play how good are the weapons you have around you obviously you got a great running back coming in Duke you Noah Noah coming to Ohio State get KC from last year how good is this group of of of athletes you have around yeah it's a special group a lot of Playmakers a lot of guys that can do a lot of different things so um excited to go out there and show the country show the ACC what this group's all about all right
