well last night was a fun night probably the most fun I've had during a game all season just everything hit you know um right from the start Parker Meadows with that leadoff home run in the first obviously if it's a leadoff home run uh but really the the uh story of the day is is uh Montero man he's shown signs of being a really good pitcher a few times this season but he hasn't been able to extend it for more than a you know maybe five innings or so uh and then the next game back to struggling but last night whatever whatever was whatever he ate whatever he was doing before the game uh make sure you keep doing that because man what a performance last night um so let's look at a few things that took place last night for him uh courtesy of Jason Beck uh Montero is the first tiger this is the first tiger complete game or shut out since Spencer turns no hitter in 2021 so it's been three years that's crazy um now the Tigers did have that combined no hitter was it last year I believe it was last year they had that combined no hitter um but I guess you know you don't count that um first tiger to face the minimum 27 batters in the game since Justin Verlander's no hitter in 2011 I can't believe it's been 13 years 13 years since that I I remember watching that game uh like it was yesterday so crazy how time flies um and also the first tiger to throw a Maddox since David Price in 2015 uh some of you guys might not even remember David Price being a tiger if you're you know a newer fan um his tenure with Detroit was hoam really I I don't even really remember him being with the Tigers much uh according to opst Stats via Twitter uh since pitches were first tracked in 1988 Montero is the only major league baseball rookie to throw a madx and if you don't know what a madx is it's uh it's named after obviously Greg Maddox uh it's nine innings of complete game shut out under 100 pitches um I didn't write down how many total pitches mono threw I believe it was like 96 which uh that's just crazy um and you know the other thing I was thinking about this this really this this now gives the bullpen two full days of rest which probably feels like a week's worth of vacation time for these guys as much as they've been used in the past month or so so that's another awesome uh another awesome little nugget of good news for the Tigers on their push to hopefully the Wild Card unfortunately the Twins won last night they also put up 10 runs against uh shoot I can't remember who they played but they they they won uh Boston lost Seattle lost so they drop to four games behind the wild card so now it's just Detroit in that last possible well you know three games out they're I mean we we still have the Baltimore Orioles to face um I think six games is what I read they they're playing playing six games I I could be wrong on that um so it's still going to be rough um it's still going to take a lot of a lot of help from hopefully the twins hopefully the twins go on like a 10 game losing streak uh I uh I think it was 2009 when they beat us in the one game wild card playoff spot uh and you know what it's time to do us a solid and pay us back for that but uh yeah but three games out we got 18 games left I think so I mean crazier things have happened right um also the offense was terrific um I'm all you know this offense is so hot and cold you know you never know what you're going to get with this team especially against bad pitching uh it seems like we make bad pitchers look like saong Award winners um more often than not so going into this game against Bradley block who hasn't been terrific I think his earned run average coming into the game was like five 5.40 something like that um maybe lower but going into a game against a team that's bad and a pitcher who's not great you you you kind of think well we're either going to destroy the kid or we're going to get shut out we're going to have three hits luckily we went with the blow them out portion of of the game uh Parker Meadows which the a crazy cool story Parker Meadows played High School baseball with BR Bradley block uh he gave him a little nod before the at bat which I thought was really cool um baseball's just crazy it's just a crazy game like that I mean the the the tagline of how can't you be romantic about baseball this this is one of those reasons like I know other sports probably have the same scenarios but it's just cool nonetheless but Parker was rude I don't know if these guys are friends I don't know if they were friends in high school they were teammates that doesn't mean that they were friends but uh I think you know maybe they won't talk after the game after this one but who knows but Bradley uh you know he he he's pitching against the hottest tiger right now I think I think Meadows is probably the hottest hitting tiger right now uh Meadows uh two for three last night with a home run three RBI uh guy just you know he looks completely different than when he was here the first or the first part of the season um whatever they did down there they they fixed him and he has been awesome uh Ry the green three-run triple I don't know how that turned into a triple it looked just like a basic base hit um but it drove in three and that really got the the game going uh Matt verling continues to be you know Dependable two for four with couple RBI 11 runs on 10 hits Tigers improved to 74 and 71 73 7 one of those two uh I all I know is that they're on a great run uh hopefully we can get tonight's game take uh take another one you we just got to play game by game you know but uh last night was a lot of fun uh and have a good have a good day guys
