the family of a sick man being treated in Brampton Civic Hospital say staff shaved his beard without their permission violating their loved ones religious beliefs as he lay unconscious our family member received a call from one of the um I guess the nurses working there and they asked if they could uh shave our father-in-law's facial area Jinder sing cair is a practicing sick so his family says they told staff not to shave his beard but when they went to visit the 85-year-old who's being treated for a serious fall they were shocked he was clean shaped that was like quite the site where you know we were so hurt cair's son-in-law says the family never received an apology it's an attack on someone's dignity B prit sing bapar with the world sick organization of Canada says practicing six don't cut or remove their hair and that includes their beards and for someone to do so without consent is a violation and to appear this way uh it's actually very Troublesome the family has courageously agreed to take this story forward and and to allow pictures of their father to be published why have you decided to come forward and share this story I don't want to see it happen again to somebody else let's say when he does wake up and they show them a mirror what's he going to see for the wso they want better education for Hospital staff particularly because Brampton has the highest sick population in Canada and we've offered to provide assistance or training in that regard but that offer has never really been taken up even the fact that the family still doesn't know how or why this happened and it's now been 2 weeks uh that just shows that the hospital doesn't understand the significance of these articles of faith and they don't know how deeply hurtful they are in response William Osler health system which operates this Hospital says it's taking the situation very seriously and launching an investigation adding in a statement in part we are sorry and deeply concerned when we do not meet the standard our patients and their families expect and deserve Osler respects the religious rights and freedoms of all Canadians and supports a positive inclusive and safe environment while caring for our community and each other with kindness empathy and understanding in Brampton Michelle Macky City news
