breaking overnight her name is Francine remember this Francine is now a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico heading for Louisiana now it's due to make landfall today with dangerous winds heavy rain and storm surge all the usual stuff with the hurricane Dave malov is in Huma Louisiana with the latest hurricane Francine has already flooded roads in South Texas and that's barely the beginning storm surge is slamming the coast and it's going to become even more dangerous as it moves North targeting Louisiana those in lowline areas have been ordered to evacuate by Paris governments man I I just don't want to stay down here just uh you know what could happen the governor of Louisiana is urging people to shelter in place until after the hurricane has passed we remind people that when the storm makes its way on Shore we would ask that you stay in your homes barges are coming in from the Gulf tug after tug pushing them to Safe moing 3 years after experiencing hurricane Ida a category 4 storm everyone is taking this one seriously like Carol the plantas here in Homa we're still not finished we're not done from Ida yet still like people think everything's all done and over with it's not we still have a lot of places that aren't done my son's still displaced she's concerned the water will enter her home still being remodeled from the damage that Ida left behind we know we're going to get some water so I just want to protect what I have Carol works in the Maternity Ward helping to deliver babies she did that during the last storm in 2021 and Tony her next shift is actually during landfall for this one Dave thank you very much meteorologist Stephanie Abrams with our partners at the weather channel is watching Francine very closely Steph good morning when's it going to hit Tony good morning we expect landfall later today the center of francen is offshore we're already seeing the clouds and showers in Louisiana the rain and wind will get more intense as it nears the coast and there's your landfall this afternoon into early evening tomorrow the center will head north raining out over multiple States from Arkansas to Georgia New Orleans is nearly 15 in above average on rainfall for the year we could get another 5 to8 but this is not just a coastal storm it will bring a flood threat well Inland as well as power outages as the storm slowly winds down right along the coast scene is expected to deliver a water rise of 10 ft along with punishing waves and within the rain bands especially on the east side of the storm there is a threat of tornadoes our tornado condition index is a three out of 10 from Louisiana to Florida what's left of the storm lingers into Missouri Friday and gives us a few showers in the Southeast over the weekend Tony Francine will be the sixth hurricane in just the Last 5 Years to make landfall in Louisiana Steph thank you very much
