Jim Parsons Says Working With Jessica Lange is "Life Changing"

we oh my gosh we're coordinated we're dating now we came here tonight together this our wedding actually listen congratulations this is your first Tony nomination what are the emotions going through your head right now oh my goodness well the emotions kind of started the moment the nominations came out like I kind of wasn't prepared for it but theater's been my heart and soul that's the first thing I ever did as an actor and it's just very special theater itself is close to my heart and if you are fortunate enough to be in the New York theater scene Broadway and even off Broadway it's you feel how small it is and you feel it when you're here everybody knows each other it's unlike any other uh industry event that I've ever been to and working with the one and only just Kang what was that experience like for you um I don't want to sound overly bold and say lifechanging but lifechanging I mean you cannot act with somebody like Jessica Lang from months on in and not be affected by it and I can be specific she is so playful and I don't mean like a prankster or something but I mean like in the most dramatic of moments that she Nails she's still being so playful and it's a lack of preciousness and just so much imagination that's what it is and she even says that she goes I think imagination is the most important thing for an actor and you can feel that coming off of her she is instantly in whatever the moment is with you and she's also little known Secret secret um an easy laugher on stage no she's so present that's what I think it is she is so present with everybody if anything goes wrong it cracks her up and it is the funnest thing to be on stage and watch her laugh at something she keeps acting but she you can it's like Jessica broke she's just laughing in my face was there any like funny mishap or something that particularly happened that made you all kind of break character one night I'm sitting at her feet at a chair she's in and I came up and I hit the ottoman stool and there were these like fries or whatever that had been brought out and they flew all over she just cackled and Celia hadn't been looking she was studying something else and then she saw Jessica looking at her and crying she was laughing like what the hell happened um but I kept I stayed in character Mis langang and uh I carried on through the scene and we got past it it's such a joy I love it I'm so happy that you've been having such a joyful experience with this I also wanted to ask I know that a lot of young performers and and artists that are watching tonight what advice would you have for them about building a career on stage well to work at any opportunity you can like I mean I I I still feel this very strong when I was first starting and I was a student and I was very young as soon as I committed to saying yes to as many opportunities as I could and being performing in as many venues as as I could like small rooms a garage Outdoors whatever it was you really that's how I learned the best was just on the flly you just had to get it done you had to get it done um and eventually you can get Chooser perhaps or whatever but like there's nothing to be substituted for the experience of being on stage in whatever that stage is live in front of people and having to make it work right then you know cuz there's no editor and there's no cut it's just going on and then it's over and it's yeah thank you so much for your words thank you good luck tonight
