Melody that way I don't have to interrupt that topic once I get there my triny members I posted a photo of my hair because I do get asked do you ever wear your real hair out because you know I like wearing wigs and stuff I actually like braids too but until I find somebody I trust they ain't touching my hair to put no braids in it it's not happening but I went natural in 2010 I believe and it has been a long long road and process um I probably red damaged my hair on that natural Journey at the beginning of the natural hair Journey um but I am 4C texture in case you're wondering um every time I have wash weekend because it's never a wash day it's a washing detangle weekend you have to be gentle you got to be patient all that stuff um I I almost want to cry or I do cry I didn't cry this weekend I be wantan to cry it's so much work um but uh and this and like we've already talked about this before so you know for me whatever you like to to have your hair as is beautiful to me even if you're rocking bald that is beautiful to me I am this is I'm about to talk about what I'm comfortable with and what I was striving for when I went natural so that's all I'm saying because I ain't putting nothing on nobody else um thank you beev M for the Super Chat just for you on Labor Day thank you B hold on cuz we got to go where we we going bab we going all right we going what a a tww but I had close to one when I when I went because I tried to do the whole transition let some of your natural hairer out while you still had your your relaxed ends on there and stuff so that's what I um did so I went from pretty pretty short 2010 I I went through a lot of um I'm not afraid of heat so I I I did do the heat thing but sometimes I let it be too much when I would go to certain people and it wasn't on them I just kept making a lot of frequent appointments so at some point my hair was going to be like all right girl we we need you to stop but so after all that recovered I slowly trimmed off the uh heat damaged ends I am I'm just just hitting braal L bra length length I guess uh when I flat IR my hair and I posted pictures of it it's not all the way all the way flat IR it's enough for a nice length check I need to give it a dusting which yall if my natural people know it's like a it's a trim but it's like a it's it's just enough that's what I do like I am not somebody that that I tell if I do sit in someone's chair I always tell them you cannot trim me on our first date we'll work our way to it when I um when I can see that I can trust you because I need to know you you understand the difference between a kinky end and just the end that might need a little trim trim so I don't you you're not trimming my hair on the first date most times I honestly I'm like look I got it okay I got it but um it's a long it's a long road and I am happy with it I I probably am somewhat of a I don't know what to call it it's probably I'm about to say something mean about myself almost I think I'm a length [ __ ] y'all like I really do I do because I have worked for it so hard and every tier every time I want to pick up the razor and shave my head every time I want to put a relaxer back in my head so that's why I'm like for every little bit of length I can retain I am happy because it's such a hard Road and it's not even that my it's not the fact that I'm for seeing my hair is kinky I mean it is but it's not that I don't like it it's that it literally likes to web up and Tangle in itself and when you're trying to be trying to work out now and all this other stuff it's a it's a lot and I'm not a I'm not a real locks person like I love seeing people with locks but I'm not committed to a permanent hairstyle for like that for myself um so I have to deal with what I have to deal with and most of the time it's wigs until I find somebody I trust that uh will braid my hair and not treat treat my hair as if you know like oh you know you got that k k hair you know how you know how people talk you know how people talk like I do have that hair but you have to actually be more gentle with my hair than you do with someone with a looser pattern or straight hair and if you don't understand that we have nothing else to talk about our hair is very fragile okay it needs tender loving care yes I do two strand twist and what happens to P I live by a two strand twist cuz I can't break I live by a two strand twist um but what happens is because I don't flat twist because I don't know how to flat twist it still will poof up and start tangling in itself and everything because the root part like a inch a inch and a half from my scalp it'll uh it'll start poofing up and tangling and stuff but yes I live by two strand to that's what I put on one under my wig caps too is a two strand twist liveing live by those um um thank you CeCe she said your hair does look beautiful I've been natural for over 10 years and haven't straightened my hair much I told my daughter I was thinking of getting a silk press when the weather cools down a bit yes yes yes yes um I will say the the best thing is I don't touch my hair a lot I don't manipulate my hair a lot I had to learn the hard way that it is it's just time in patience and treat it nicely keep it moisturized that's really all you can do and time does show that you treating your hair gentle like it really comes down to like the basic basic B Basics um let's see they they call my hair KY see you feel me lady sweetness my hair be making me cry I'm real close to relaxing natural let me Teresa I fight with myself every two to three months on I've even try to talk myself into a text LAX if not a full relaxer I've almost talked myself into you know the Jerry Jerry curl came back they just calling it something else y'all I have almost went so many routes so Teresa I feel your struggle I do feel your struggle I don't even know what to say because we all are going through our own thing straight oh got you see I don't I'm scared of any kind of treatments honestly except the hot oil treatment I'm scared of anything um else I can't do a keratin I can't do a hot oil I can't even I saw someone say they went to the Dominicans get I can't I can't even do that because depending on what Dominican Salon you go to it might be irreversible so I'm I can't I'm scared to touch anything unless I'm actually saying okay I'm making this a permanent change I'm scared to even do it it's not for the week T Yep this is it CC do you finger detangle cuz that's I I well let me put it to you this way to get my hair detangled this last time because it was under it was two strand Twisted but it was under wigc cap for a while a while um I'm not even gonna tell you how long but I try to you of course you have to when it's you have to remoisten it uh from when it's in it's dry state then I finger detangle then there's some some that I still couldn't get out this time because it got too matted that was on me but I dread uh wash weekends so I had to then over the course of this weekend I took I'm not even G no you're going to know the truth I was in a shower about 40 minutes at a time there were at least five separate times and I would just have a section of hair that I was trying to detangle hey M how are you we were just okay we look now we G to come back to the hair thing in a second because what I was going to say is I'll still say this part but then I we about to come back to this I was gonna say Mel I used your deep hair mask for my deep condition last night I had it in I slept in it last night and my hair is very very very soft um because after I finally got it detangled after my five 40 minute sections of doing my hair trying to get it detangled when I finally got to the they've been divorced for some time things have been contentious as Hol was convicted of convicted of DV in the spring for sending threatening Communications to Sheree but through therapy not just for herself but also for their children and the help of a dedicated tribe shout out to the tribe she's been able to move forward and be in a positive space I have an amazing support system she says I've literally positioned myself in a way where I can say that everyone I have around me and in my inner circle at this stage in my life are all solid I love that for you too and with the right team the right drive and keeping her own kns front and center you can't stop Melody Sheree we talked to the Alabama native about having the courage to leave her marriage why it was important to have her children go through therapy after making that decision and what being a mother has taught her about herself Essence uh Essence asks how do you get it all done because being an entrepreneur being on television doing music is no so no small feat as you mentioned you do put yourself first but who do you lean on to make that possible and Melody said so there are two parts to that the first thing I will say is I do have an amazing team and it's so important to have solid people in your life who show up for you when you need them to show up who pour to you the same way you pour to others and who help you refill your cup after you've filled up others so I have an amazing amazing team family and close friends who do that regularly for me and then the other part to that is I do a lot uh myself as well every second of the day counts every second matters I've been in situations in the past where I was like man if I had just gotten up an hour earlier I could have gotten this other task done and I didn't like that feeling so now what I do is I make sure I get up and I get started early and I do a lot of multitasking which allows me to do all the stuff I need to do Essence asked how have the opportunities that have opened up for you been a blessing as you stepped out on your own following your divorce she said I think a lot of people have said divorce is like death and so if you think of divorce being like death then you have to look for where life is going to come from and so for me the life that was breathed into me as I was going through that situation of course first came from God knowing that he was with me every step of the way maintaining my faith and not being fearful so many times we are Fe fearful of being alone and I tell people all the time alone does not equal lonely that is so true and I still think people try to use that to um they they use that to make someone scared a lot of times too I I definitely see that like when someone's like oh well at least they got a husband or at least such and such sh is with somebody it's like yeah but that's like a jail sentence like if you don't actually have fun and love the person they love you back and treat you well that's a jail sentence you could have a a inmate roommate too that don't make it good like you should be enjoying yourself so people do throw that in people face like you should just be be content and happy let me saying that that's not what the article says um so let me get back to what the article says sorry y'all she said she was lonely but not alone I mean she was she was up alone does not equal lonely so she says I was not fearful of being alone because I knew God was with me every step of the way I've also been blessed to be able to utilize my gifts to help me through my healing process so by way of Music I've been able to share and express emotions and tell my St story so to speak and then because I'm on television I've been able to have this amazing supportive fan base shout out to the MERS um sorry I get excited and now I got to get my Place back I've been I've been able to have this amazing supportive fan base who supports everything I do and who stands in the Gap too when it comes to prayer I have an amazing mother who's constantly praying over me who's constantly reminding me even through that divorce who I am and who I am so I've been able to find again those pieces that bring life as I'm going through a death shout out to Mama van uh Essence says I heard you say in an interview that therapy has been essential for you and your children why was it so important for you to provide your kids with professional support I think sometimes when we're going through stuff we fail to look at others around us who would affects as well it would be naive to think that as I'm experiencing hurt and I'm experiencing betrayal and I'm experiencing the pain of a divorce that my children are not experiencing that as well oh Lord what D say oh here we go D um so I knew that they might not show it as I do but still this is also lifechanging for them I didn't want when my children get older to look back and they've got all these issues I can't turn back the hands of time so I didn't want to be looking back saying what else could I have done and so I knew that by way of putting them in therapy I'm using all that I know to use and doing all that I know that I can do I've been blessed to have the resources to be able to do this let me have them in therapy so I'm not creating traumatized adults Essence says I love that you had a unique situation and going through your experience on television you have therapy but you're also a woman of Faith how have those things really fortified you and allowed you to move forward free melody said I love the fact that you use the word free because that's what it was for me it was freeing television was a public outlet and a way for me to share with the world what I was going through the highs and the lows which ultimately ended up leading to a divorce but being able to be free in that you see so many times people are holding on to stuff and it's just sitting Within and it's growing and it's growing and it's growing and it's building then you wonder why they all of a sudden have this breakdown and so for me the free part was being able to selfishly live out loud what I was going through not caring what anyone thought about it not caring who felt oh you shouldn't share your business because of course you have those individuals too but I just live my truth out loud and put it out there for the world to see and that was freeing for me and how do you pour into yourself Melody says I mentioned I'm about to go out with one of my friends and have lunch and I have a massage scheduled for later today so I'll be getting a massage here in my home I love to travel so I travel and that's another place of Peace for me too when I get to travel and just go see other places and experience other cultures I love being near the water and just finding those different things that bring peace to me which only pertain to me because sometimes we do things but it affects everybody but you got to find those things that you do that are just for you so when I'm getting a massage it's not not affecting anybody else but me so guess what that's a self-love thing right there so yeah I'm always making sure that I'm pouring into myself that I'm giving back to myself I work super hard so I know the importance of also taking care of me so that I can so that I can continue to walk in my purpose what has motherhood and the things that you've overcome taught you about yourself motherhood has taught me that I can love someone more than I love myself there are a lot of things I sacrifice a lot of things that I do because of my children because of my love for my children to be honest with you even getting a divorce let's keep it a book I have three girls and one son it matters for the son too of course but having girls your daughters are watching you they're paying attention I didn't want my children to feel like this was what love was supposed to look like I didn't want them to think that oh this is what marriage is supposed to look like so instead what they got is wow my mother has shown me what strength looks like my mother has shown me how she walked away from my dad with four children and started over and look where she is now so as they mature as they get older they choose to get married they're going to know hey if I look if love is not shown the way it should be in a normal healthy way I don't have to stay there that's so beautiful and that's so true yeah woo woo shout out to Mel Sheree woo woo um Essence says I love that and lastly what advice would you share for other women who have children and not be in the healthiest situations but feel like they need to stay there Melody says your children are smarter than you think they are and they feel more than what you think they feel they feel the tension yes they do they hear the arguments they see the tears roll down your face do they deserve that that's for you to decide do they deserve to think that this is what normaly is that's for you that's sorry do they deserve to think that oh this is what love is we have to put ourselves in a place like I said where we're not raising children who will become traumatized adults okay I think okay yes I think that's where it ends but I think that's so true adults are usually children that were traumatized and any parent that's over that's just trying to make sure that their kids are as balanced as possible and getting professional help and everything I think that's the best and I also love that it's not condemning anyone that did it but leaving also for Ray's uh hair stylist when everybody was loving her hair on insecure she uh Felicia invented a or created her own version of a detangling brush I use that because I'm not trying to get breakage if if I can help it at all so but first fingers then Felicia and I I had Felicia's brush in the shower with me trying to do sections patiently which is why it took so long why it took so long to detangle because the patience because if you just rip it your hair it's literally gonna rip your hair and then you can't retain your length and everything so you gota be gentle and patient gentle and patient um and then so now getting back to this detangling conditioner that's going to be really good to use because I don't have a just detangle regimen when it comes to a product I have the technique of using my fingers to try to be gentle when I'm detangling but I don't have a detangled product that I go to and I was telling for the people that were here earlier I would yeah Felicia Leatherwood detangling brush yes yes yes yes start at the ends is a must j208 it is a must you have to start the ends all of my tangles I still start at the ends because I know that's healthier for your hair but I'm just letting y'all know my Tangles come from the shed hair that can't be released in this natural Fallout because it's in two strand twist and it's under a wig cap and stuff like that and I don't touch my hair weekly um if I had more time and all these things I probably would but I don't honestly touch my hair weekly so I'll have weeks of shed hair that I now have to gently separate from my hair and then from the hair getting wet from sweat drying wet dry wet dry is it's just shrinking in itself and tangling in the shed hair so it's a whole process I have to be very patient so and I had just just just and I tell you I kid you not last night I ordered some detangling uh product from a YouTuber I saw so now I'm I'm gonna try hers but now I look forward to getting and that'll be in tribulations successes you know the love and the woes that's so um we had left off with detangle five times in the shower separate times 40 almost 40 minutes a piece I was using my Felicia Leatherwood brush shout out to Cece um and I just had to take my time then I would bant to not a section so it wouldn't get caught up in anything else as I worked the new section finally got everything detangled was it last night I think I finally got everything detangled yesterday evening yes yesterday afternoon yesterday afternoon I don't remember time time is a a construct at this point I don't remember cuz it's depressing to look at the clock and know when you started so I don't actually remember it was hours and hours money long um and when I got through detangling and it was nice and washed then I put in my Seventh Avenue Beauty deep hair condition mask because I really like how the mask feels like it's penetrating my hair and it's it I don't know how you it's when you can tell something's watery and not penetrating and when you can tell a product's good quality and is penetrating that's the only thing I can say is thick I can get two to three uses out of it um and so that's what I did I slathered and lathered my hair all up in that deep conditioning hair mask from sth Avenue and this is my six seventh time using it so it's not my first rodeo anymore with the hair mask so I already knew I was I was good to go with that I slept I slept in the deep conditioning hair uh deep conditioning I let it deep condition the whole night woke up this morning rinsed that out now if you going to be technical you should rinse it out with cool water I can't take a cool shower so I just did a not scalding shower so I could rinse it out of my hair so I rinsed that out of my hair I do have the actual leave-in conditioner as well but I knew I was about to be stacking a lot of oily products on my hair because I wanted to do some um heat protectant because I knew I was going to blow dry my hair and I was going to um flat iron my hair a soft flat iron kind of because it's not really bone straight so I'm gon say a soft flat iron um so I did that I took pictures Mr triny help me take pictures and so that's what I put on patreon and YouTube if you're a member because I don't like my body right now so I was like I can't make this public because I hate how I'm spilling over in my shirt right now although I'm on a healthy Journey it's a long road and it is what it is but that's why I'm not it's not that I don't want to show my hairs I don't want to show my rolls all over the has opinion on too much stuff sitting on your hair all I can look at is how my hair used to be and I let me tell y'all a story and I'm probably repeating the story but it's okay when I was in uniform when I first got to one of my bases um it was this dude that you know everybody think they a comedian but it was something I had had a question about because I still like to wear wigs sometimes but at that time I was just wearing my hair but I had it in this very very natural state full shrinkage and all this other stuff and I was asking about something below the collar I was saying something and he was like oh you don't have to worry about that because uh he said something about a pigtail or it wasn't even a pigtail he named he gave it another animal's name and I looked at him I was all right but what I'm saying is I have had the short hair the breakage the everything and I've had now I'm experiencing finally being gentle low manipulation not doing too much in my hair hey melie said hey Jay um that I know for me it's okay to not shampoo every time I wash my hair not even every other time I wash my hair for me so I'm GNA be heavy on the conditioner that Melody has for my co-washes and I'm gonna and it's a detangled conditioner too so I can't wait I can't wait and child he got he got kicked out the military anyway with his old he got caught up with something in the law I was like so it was whatever plus he he I don't know how to put it it's like you know how you look at some people and it's like it's not even worth it cuz life is already lifing on you that's how it was with him I was like I I don't really have no comeback because life is life is cursing him out as it is so I didn't I didn't have nothing for you I just let it I was like all right don't just try not to get a look back on what you're doing with that but if it's something else that's more biological level might have to do some more research because I don't know for sure but usually we we manipulate our hair too much or have too much tension on our hair um and then stress stress because you know that's one of the things with Melody's hairline she was saying how she used to have the stress spots and you
