time in my power rankings history Arena [Music] sabalenka here we are for this very special encounter the Bor open between Jeffrey Blan Cano against damir the demon jumur he's very much demonized thus far showing a bit of fr frust ation after losing the first set anyway the Frenchman to serve 1530 bit of pressure on that Frenchman's shoulders like a couple of baguettes weighing over him needs to take some time no hurry he says at 15:30 he's uper set to all here what are you going to do you're going to go there down the middle and that is a shank one that even Stephanos Cy pass would be proud of get that towel mop your brow return to the Baseline where you'll know it's 30 all screeches from the other courts but they don't put this young Frenchman off look at him prowling brushing questioning maybe they do put him off he needs to be focused it's 30 all to all tense times here at the Bon open goes out wide with that comes into the net does the volley does he put it away no he doesn't but he puts that one away and his opponent the demon Dam jumor just cannot believe what has happened to him I'll tell you what's happened you've been flued and you've lost the point we would take another look at it if we had a replay but we don't but who knows you don't even need a replay it's in our heads okay the Frenchman to serve I say you're going out wide you don't you go down the tea clip the net though so he's going to get another shot at it is he going to take my advice and go out wide on this one did so successfully on that last time for a Ser volley even though he messed up the volley goes down the te again does come into the net does a little drop shot and you know what jamur is like I can't even be bothered to run that down and he's going to clean that line look at this he's cleaning the line cuz he's so annoyed with some funny bounces ready play quick Refresh on my top 10 number 10 Andre ret number nine Tommy Paul number number eight Francis tifo number seven [Music] [Music] [Music] ready [Applause] play hello and welcome back to another talking tennis stream on day four of the US Open today I'll be uh covering Yanik sner versus Alex nichelson in the second round um it's a second time meeting between these two met for the first time in cinnati with a sting comp well pretty close actually straight sets Victory but straight sets it was this is uh Nicholson's second US Open um and he's coming into this match on good form having reached the final in winon Salem so it's an intriguing one obiously Alex has had a lot of um talk around him for many reasons even the Cincinnati title than had the the anti-doping charges announced back in March um he he played his first round match which I also covered believe the last three sets of first set and the start of the second set he was all over the place and really look to be effective and then as the match went on he started to find his feing kind of look like the player that's been the best in the world this year so it' be interesting to see if he can make a better start today but I don't think he'll have it all these own way with uh nichon obvious American a young talented American who will try and throw him off his guard and just on first match today on Arthur asash um I think for me I can't see s not s losing I can't see losing at all but I think it be in Fall I think the could take us there Poss the first if first starts that the way he does in the last match I mean wasn't serving well at all in that match be hoping to to change that but it's nichelson s first and it's a bad start of the American a double fault so yeah not ideal at all but early stages I mean there's down to be some nerves I don't know if he's played in Arthur Rush before I know this is his second appearance at US Open so be interested that pressure against one of the best players but it's un lovely down the line back from next a fantastic start just curious yeah did bit of a connection difficulty there but yes made a great start down the line back of thirsty but uh M does get on the board f with s hit a backand into the net 1530 obviously there have been some matches again underway previously starting at 4 about 4:00 in the UK 11 a.m. in um New York um some interesting scores I mean I know that both so Bastian cter against match was a break up lost the set and her catch was a Break Jordan Thompson and lost the set so players um maybe not holding their lead but it's C who's got two break points in this first game Ghost asking what happens if you a player at a grand slam is that against the rules I mean I think it's very slam depend I think would you'd be frowned be a lot more frowned upon than the US Open and yeah I in TR who you're talking about one of those break points but uh got Second Chance oh he just out I believe fine again that was a I don't know they both been lit but so it's hard to tell when you haven't got the sound on your stream but um yeah it's that was definitely a l on this point in the first service game of oh you guys long when the forehand and C get an early Break made a much better start but he's still got to consolidate that with his own service games which were a big problem in the last first the last match but get another American in McKenzie McDonald so yeah just looking around the ground you got arnaldi just setting a break up on saulin and then you got chis set on beluchi mahat we previously mentioned is a set of break up on Sebastian C so that's interesting from a Latin American standpoint Jordan Thompson is a setup on her catch um and also got three break points in the the women's Story You've Got Anakin skay who is the partner of yanner um she's a set on anab bond I want a break up but is now back on Ser the second set say he's had a good year is set a break from Wang and youu and very very informed di Schneider is a set a break up on Clara tson that's a good point left from Alex Mixon on getting the forehand has an approaching s than that go ask if you do a sponsor I mean yeah again which sponsor you talking about very uh dependent well a while 400 up from s so um yeah not a great start to S this game either go say hatch is pulling quar I've heard the quality of that match is is high well at least was in the first set I think it might be a medical time out as well so I don't know if corter is struggling physically yeah ghost just wanted to be every player and sponsor or every but uh a lot of them second service center is in but that's a great return from m point continues approach the net that's a good Vol there from the American to get three break back points himself so yeah not being too phased by that early break as you see I could have got a bit it's actually 20 so still very young Alex Michelson and recently turned 20 as well he's already get three ATP finals I think he new Final twice and also most recently Winston Salem final where he lost Lorenzo SEO save one of those break points to still chances for nion to get that break back so ni Ace from 3040 ghost wants to get boo boo Za's nice I like it I'm still intrigued out like that I know say it's a long list but I'm intrigued who' be top of that list or it would be in and around the top of that list at least so long from then deep return now then back hand to back hand cross CL and S goes long so nichon did not take long to get that break back and we're back on Ser W yeah concerning times for both Spas H her cat both been a break up in the first set and now down a set down and breakdown in the second passing C is actually a double breakdown against Thomas batch is very talented c will have high hopes and this one I believe I has been going quite deep anyone who are currently watching is there any map looking for in particular today I mean I think for me it's got to be Osaka M it's a late one tonight but I'll do my best to to try and stay up for it K is interested as well can you hear me okay Matt yes I can hear you how are you I think my internet is too dodgy I can currently hear you so yeah my internet I think is a bit dodgy that's one just one second okay yeah I was just talking about Ken Pula Ken the back off the back back good performance against and r car and um Jess Pula I would say is one of the favorites after reaching the uh inter while I'm winning the title in Toronto gcia I think D in the dark course I mean been one of the best players over the last couple of months got so many wins and uh I think it's got a pretty good draw I think fourth round really should be the favorite to get to the fourth round in her section and is only two games away from beating Clara talson don't playing D at the moment back to the C Nicholson match it's 35 on Nicholson Ser back into so 15 Nichol and his seems to have studied himself a little and uh looking to get the first hold of this match good first it's wide from s so yeah first half goes to Nicholson and r two one to the American speaking of yan anak SK is about Ser for the match against anab anabond and uh he's a very consistently yeah I saw a thing about the women who have won matches at least one match every slam this year and it's it's quite an exclusive list but she was on it and there's also a list of players women who have lost in the first round of every slam this year which is also intriguing I want to know first of all I just heard the latter part of that mat so there was someone who has won a match at every slam this year who were you referring to well I I was just talking about how Al SK is about to serve the match and I was saying that I saw a list with a select group of players who's won a match every slam this year and she was on it and then I also saw like to the side of that a list of players who lost in the first round every slam heard yeah I mean has has Sak won a match at a slam this year yes uh she did right well reached third round at w I think but I think it's been standing out on that that first round list yeah I mean the first round wi the on out to me was aan of Roose which I didn't realize that she much every slam this year and nice little I mean I don't know if it's surprising but Ron K hasn't won a match at a slam this year oh that is that is could met okay wow yeah I mean I actually might see if I can find it because it was probably go s it probably says a bit I think it says a bit more about it if you haven't won one like such an established player I think could have met of a one of 500 did she last year beating sponch on rout in Tokyo maybe yeah yeah and she's someone who you sort of look at in the draw depending on the surface um I think grass and hardcore pretty good for her so on in in those surfaces I often would be thinking about her making a decent run so that does stand out and I think not going deep or or not winning a match so as a top rank player such as kud meter maybe says a bit more no disrespect to to Roose but you can get a nice draw a couple of times and you might look at Rose's and expect her to win so I think I don't know who R was beating in those three or four slams as it as it now is so I'd have to see you know if she was beating top 30 players each of those then then then fine but um yeah but still it's a nice out for her for sure yeah I mean it's kind of he says by the way yeah I meanly Ru is on that list but saena wasn't um having missed wbl done it's kind of a technicaly but just interested oh I see yes so savena wasn't on the rist because yeah wimbl yes so you can ignore that yeah but obiously you'd expect her to have won regardless of where first R pointment was yeah yeah I mean if Sab link was on the list of not having one one then then that stands out I'm going to try and switch back to the Wi-Fi and see if um see how that works just a second um what have I oh hello I just wonder what I've been missing so far today let me just have a quick look at some of the scores around the grounds let me know by the way everyone if you can still hear me all right have a look at some of the scores okay so Putin sa is uper set on Wayne and Ken Sky did indeed H get over the line talson is on the verge of going out I see and uh obviously Coco goens fine I think that was yesterday wasn't it um yeah what else uh what about on the men's side because I'm just dipping in now to see what's going on so we've got C and Mickelson uh underway mikkelson obviously breaking back after being a breakdown um sebie Corder is in a bit of trouble is this the Grand Slam where we go this is mahat doing what mahat does um but cord going two sets to love down may please some people who I know in the live chat are not their biggest fan but may disappoint others um I don't know whether you were big on quarter before this tournament uh Matt I think I had him going pretty deep I mean he's he's had decent form they won Washington right um and let me just look my bracket see how how deep I have going and just but I know he was he was OB a break up in that first set It's seems like it's gone downhill since then yeah the WiFi here is not great had him in my fourth round so yeah it's a bit of a poor result for America especially as home major yeah let's see how we get on so just tell me about this match between C and Mickelson Matt I missed the first sort of three or four games but I believe there was a break of serve for both players I think N double faed on his first point I remember hearing you say that yeah he did and um I think he did look a bit nervous in that first game but he reacted really well in s the service game and I I was talking about how s is Ser in the first set of the match against McDonald was really off so I was intrigued to know if it would be off today it seems it does seem a bit better he hit at least one a that I've seen and it's back on seven now with to Nicholson but is about to try and get back on level terms he has just lost that first point so uh maybe michon is going to be pressuring I I think michelson's best bet is to win this first set yeah yeah I mean didn't it didn't help um uh who was it in the previous round McDonald was it yeah the McDonald yeah um in the end of course he was up a set in a Break um mikkelson is a quite a jumpy character and I mean that in a nice way you know he's just a bit he's kind of a bit nervy in general as as a as a as a person as a player so um I'd be very intrigued to see you know if mikkelson is in a position which I'm sure he will be at various points in his career when he's trying to serve out to win a big title or to try and serve out a big match especially on someone like ash um who knows we might get to see today um of course he's the very much the underdog but um yeah he I I just mean he's sort of there's a real honesty about him you know what you see is what you get he will make mistakes like he did in Winston Salem when he whacks the ball but he immediately realizes it he's not someone who'll maybe double down on a mistake if you like like some people will he'll you know he'll front up about it and go you know he'll make lots of mistakes he's a very emotional person probably emotion is probably the the the word I'm looking for more than anything else and it's part of the endearing side to him as far as I'm concerned yeah I mean he's just um come out of his teenage years so he's still got a lot of learning to do and I think he been in three ATP finals um yeah he's lost them all yeah yeah I mean snaker one I think was was that a bit more one-sided but I think there was one in Newport was quite close I I I don't remember watching it but I remember seeing the score line but the talent is obviously there it's just about you know learning and to deal with the situation I'm assuming this is probably his first time on arur R and these things get they take time to to you know get used to yeah definitely definitely um you just sort of hope that he gets over the line quite quickly in terms of that title because the more losses the more you know that'll get worse if that sort of becomes four five or six uh final losses then yeah that'll get particularly tricky yeah just saw one of the chat say quarters so his speeds are way down due to an arm injury he's now two sets down okay it's love 30 and his first is G the third set so won't be too surprised to see retirement if that's the case yeah quarter and injuries has been a thing I mean it was risked I think last year um and it seems to take him a little while to sort of gather momentum uh and then when he's starts to gather momentum something goes wrong for him to improvise there and kind of hitting the shot across the net but it was illegal shot and he smiled after to got 4030 I'm going to switch to a different match see what else is exciting and what's worth tuning in for go say that P Poli was just about to kick off okay I I think i' be surprised if P didn't win but you never really know with fish for these days no that's true good win for Pini in the previous round of course coming through against um yeah uh andreescu yeah I think that's the most impressive of the three that they've played this year being on the hard courts where that three grand match they've played this year yeah r g now US Open yeah it was it was pretty high quality from the stuff I saw in the third set three Wimbledon can you can you remember what the score was roughly was it was it straight sets as well for Pini at Wimbledon good question I have a look I get the I I don't know why but I think both previous ones were straight sets but I could be wrong yeah I feel like the rolling gar one was rain affected and I think one of the sets was quite heavy but I can't remember andrescu on Clay I I I wouldn't fancy her chances as much as the other two surfaces against Pini palini is pretty good across all three in fact I wouldn't necessarily have put Pini down as a grass cour player until this year but yeah I mean she hadn't won a tour match until this year so just shows the bound she's come on but yeah in Rand Gus it was three sets but in the two sets that par won she lost one game that's quite a top to match yeah got now my screen little B of the straight sets Okay C saving a break point and I can see this sleeve that he's wearing and and from what I understand from the live chat that's an addition he's made during the match rather than pre-match yeah I saw him the the scores that he the medical timeout and then this match that is brutal for Michelson that's like there you can get much closer but the ball does go out he now faces three break points a second serve on that break point the 40 and yeah M goes long so it's it's a break to love for Yanik yeah so M's have to do it gonna have to do it again yeah I mean I don't think it's completely out of the question but it's a it's a hard break that's what I think you can you saw you could really see them like that or be been so close out play on his mind a little okay again he wears his heart on his sleeve I'm probably coming up with better Expressions than I was before saying he's a bit jummy but yeah he just wears his heart on his sleeve and yeah what you see is what you get and that's an endearing characteristic but perhaps in tennis you know we we need to sort of hide some of those emotions a little bit espe that's a good point I I think sometimes characteristics that are good as a human being AR necessarily always good as a fres tennis player athlete it's hard kind of agreed to mix them yeah I did find that list with the players they've won four and0 well all their first round matches so you've got BSA go Kalen Sky kazakina KOST Martin Naro Pini they kind of all sort of been very consistent pav Chen yeah Rancher Ro wasen has won a match penov has not been out in the first round yet this year yeah that that did surprised me because I you kind of associate with could be amazing could be off as well yeah yeah so Ranch R I mentioned was kind of a surprise um you've got riina fch and then the last one on the list is yafan Wang again somewhat surprising to me then you've got one two three four six names on the no winds out four grand slams but Jack Christian and now ver over who I mentioned earlier the other one that surprises me is magdal Linette um oh lyette hasn't won a match at a grand slam this year wow I don't know if she's have rough drawers but that that did surprise me then you've got schme and Yuan okay yeah but lenette obviously making the semi-finals in Australia of 2023 um yeah that's that's rough and I'm Pres assuming that she's played every slam I I don't yeah they were all players play all four okay yeah so lyette also stands out I think you're right to highlight kud met even more so um because that Lynette run to the to the semifinals was a little out of out of the blue if you like um and was sort of draw dependent to some extent and and she took advantage of every every you know thing that she could and hats off to her for doing so when saval Lena played her in the semi in Australia I I do remember thinking okay sabba you've not made a grand slam final yet she was on one of those runs that we sort of see with pagul and rubl regarding quarterfinals orbe it for her was semi-finals at that point I think she'd lost I don't know if it's four five or six but um that was the day that was like okay this is the day you're going to have to get over the line Arena and she did yeah I think yes it is s yes it would have been and uh Nicholson perhaps responded again it's love 30 50 and 30 now back long from the American but still chances for to get that break back they have frozen but I'll keep you up to speed of things uh I think I'm back yes you are you are so yeah C is up the break and it's a nice Vol there from Alex I believe that nson looks a bit puzzled but yeah it's him I'm not watching uh as I said I'll switched over at quarter but um it's just funny when you said he looked a bit puzzled because again it's the hot on the sleeve thing yeah I mean it was a good attemp passeng shop but s dealt with it really well yeah he's definitely a character I was watching him at a challenger very up close about five months ago in Portugal and uh yeah wearing a heart on the sleeve I mean he was so annoyed playing Dennis Novak it was from Austria and he was you know he said out loud to his to his box or his team you know you don't really have boxes at challenges they're just sort of sitting on chairs at the side of the court and he said I can't believe it he's why is is Dennis Novak playing like Novak jovic it was even funny it was like I'm supposed to be playing Dennis Novak not Novak jovic or something like that he said something not supposed to really say but it's kind of nice when do vocalize what they're actually thinking it's it's like H social media it's just very authentic yeah um who is it on social media I don't know might have been hulga but somebody misspelled the word lose um which is a common mistake for non-natives to make actually no big deal they write it l o o s e you know and it might have been hog it might been someone else but whoever it was I was like oh that's cool that's cool because you know it probably hasn't been through a production company of some sort or or PR yeah yeah I was just going to say that I think a lot of British people also to spell the L and loose situations I don't think it's necessarily yeah yeah maybe I'm being I mean I know it's it's a perfectly valid for a nonnative English person but just so s has hit smash into the net and it's a second break point for nichelson back to back Cross Court and S goes into the net so that is level again for all nice nice I'm not antier at all I'm just I'm just pro tennis yeah I mean I think you always see the top players get tested it's boring to watch the comfortable as much as that's what you expect I think if I if I understand correctly that next up on ash is um uh is eager just answering Nan in the chat yeah actually talking about Seb C is up three love but he's getting a lot more attention and is the risk it looks like or or it could be the elbow some part of the lower arm anyway uh or a bit of both actually upper arm now is getting attention to and he is wincing quite a lot yeah I mean I think just from what I've heard i' been watching but I was surprised to say that he's got that break I thought he'd fade away yeah and perhaps he would have retired had it not been the US Open oh yeah yeah Ash back in sorry very reminiscent of of of when he lost to hatch off I think it was in Australia yeah 2023 that was when he was in the best form of his career in my opinion yeah yeah just hope it's not too serious asle talking about the no and Burmingham tournament how he likes going to them I I've also been to both of them and yeah they're pretty good events Birmingham and what was oh Nottingham okay I haven't been to yeah both of them I mean I know Birmingham is being demoted to well yeah to the challenges yeah yeah yeah to the lower level it's a Pity I'm just sharing on the screen right now a couple of videos that I've uploaded um so do check them out when you get a chance including an interview I just did with Daniel Mur who had a who's had a career high of 149 he's won his Challenger match today against the Portuguese enrio a lot Russia so um yeah do check that out as in when you get a chance uh mahat here serving at love three uh mikkelson looks like he's doing all right on his surf he was 30 love although I seen that's 305 it's actually at 30 or now um yeah he was okay he my Ser Vol but it's a forehand long there got things back level but still well in this it's a good first serve oh yeah it was good first I think it's hard to tell sometimes for the maybe it was a l yeah I think it was a l yeah with the lets I tend to look doesn't always work out like this because some like to depending on how the match is going and how sweaty they are they like to just take one ball at a time I remember seeing Rafa I think it was in that final in Australia against Mev at one point he started taking one ball at a time and I was thinking okay is that to sort of just slow things down but I think he said it was just cuz his shorts were too wet that putting a ball in the pocket was just yeah I remember that yeah so but generally what I tend to look for in terms of when I've got the sound down is obviously they like to have one ball in the pocket and one if it is a they'll often obviously take another ball yeah I mean I think that's I have noticed that before but in that case I think Nicholson was uh expressing his sort of I think he was surprised it was a so I was a bit confused for a second okay gotcha he came to the net there to try and take the game but the volley goes into the net and it's back at juice Ashley here asking about mayorca I presume Ashley you're referring to the Challenger right now uh and yeah that is the raadal open 125 maybe Challenger 125 or 175 I'm hearing some cheers so that might well be that ji Faria has held yeah I'm at the Porto 2 as it's called Uh F both F and Rashia here um both unfortunately didn't make it to the main drawer in New York uh going out I think both went out quite early maybe the first round of qualifying yeah I remember seeing one I got one of them and I think they struggled in qualifying yeah so they've got new boras currently think he's still yeah pretty sure he's might well be playing today actually and I you've got a break point right yeah he's playing yes it's break point C and he's playing War he playing coak is later that's a good backend there from Nicholson and he s can't get it back so it's back at juice he saves that break point I think I saw the um going back to the Portugal think I think all G is approaching becoming the highest ranked Portuguese player in the ATP history oh so Pedro xia soua right would be yeah 28 maybe I'm gonna say yeah is in the low 30s so it's getting close got it yeah won the tysone bad recently the final and it's now break point again for the Alex not quite getting the volum there just seen a beautiful drop shot from uh from um sebie C I am seeing sebie doing some different things on the forehand including that forand drop shot and including a sort of more defensive forehand than I would have expected um so I I do think it is an it is an ongoing issue this this and he's shaking his sh he's up Bak 45 but he's shaking his head get another break s is fed the best server amongst the top 10 players probably nuran yes first serve especially um but I would even say there's been some improvements all around uh what was he said in a press conference in Hamburg something about I think it was about his second serve um or no it about it was about getting his first serve in I think his first serve in percentages are either the in the top 50 players he's either first or second in terms of getting his first serve in and he said that was something that he's certainly worked on over the last couple of years yeah someone who's not Thanking us Ser right now is Nicholson who double faulted to gift the break to C hour for the first set yeah just on that question I suppose the only one that think of is maybe her catch got a big serve oh yeah yeah her catch uh I mean I would include Novak in the conversation umit been struggling so far yeah he just said in his it was either on court or or somewhere I saw his quote was about I'm not happy with this serve yesterday pushed five last year yeah I think both of his first two matches his serve has been 47% first serve in which is quite low also it's quite scary that you've went both in straight sets with that percentage Yeah yeah um I didn't see his match last night but the first round I saw bits of it um and I think he can get away with it let's say um against um um who was it he played in the first round uh Al yeah yeah um yesterday of course that's a bit different leslo I think a fit and firing leslo Jer Novak also said an interesting thing about that is that that leslo likes to play or or or he doesn't like to play leslo in a way in terms of the game style but um of course unfortunately he was not able to finish the match yeah I think a more tricky one now in the third round against Alexi poin definely I mean that could have been a five Setter in Australia this year I think poin had set points maybe for a two sets to one lead I'm going to say something like that yeah um it might have been on the Novak serve I'm not sure but but it was four sets and it was close and of course poin arguably is playing even better right now having one in Canada yeah I mean the only thing I would do to caveat that is that I did look and they have they did play with wooden and it was straight sets to jovic but okay grass is completely uh different kind of fish yeah yeah I'm not I'm not predicting a poer in win but things get a little bit interesting now for Novak that's for sure from the third round on his first two two matches were always lik to be quite comfortable yeah just a first fa there for C but 15 all for this first set Nicholson's got five which has been L been big quite big moments yeah yeah back into the net there from 1530 it's interesting really because obviously every time that sin has broke nichelson has broken back and immediately yeah yeah so and he has to break back now right it's that over indeed yes even sinner serve as well doesn't seem to be being as effective as it was say at the beginning of the year yeah I mean it was all over the place in um the early stages of that match with McKenzie McDonald yeah it looked horrendous but he's he found his his way as the match went on he went from really struggling to hardly Le a point towards the end but he has pretty some decent Ser there to get 403 the set point cter was just double faulted at 3015 uh he still a break up but more even more significantly it was just the manner the very sort of it was almost like he did his first serve in slow motion and that landed wide and then he double faults and yeah there's something yeah I mean okay I'm seeing him getting the medal medical attention and then I'm watching the way he's serving him particular um as well as hitting the forehand and neither are quite right yeah and the thing is he's two sets down it's almost unbelievable to think he could go five sets now um just s has taken that first set six4 yeah first set in importance you emphasized it I think it's often the case as the underdog but particularly as melson did manage to break yanic twice in that set yeah I think he was kind of there for the taking C he wasn't bad but he definitely wasn't anywh near the his second sub percentage was down at 25% Michelson was down at 18% so quarter quarter quarter what's going to happen no okay he's going to take his seat um uh just to say that cord has been broken but it was quite a bizarre one because um cter was very much up in the point and had a a difficult but manageable put away volley on the backhand side but unfortunately for him he fell um he fell so he falls down and the ball bounces and lands in and therefore he's lost the point and therefore the game he's he's approaching the net for what's going to be a it's going to be a tricky backhand volley but he would have made the volley whether he would have won the point I don't know but um he falls basically as he's about to just prepare himself for that backhand volley almost certainly nothing to do with the with the injury that he's carrying just bad luck um but he just can't believe his Misfortune basically as he falls to the ground like everything's got against him yeah he then was shaking his head and he started to walk towards what could have been his his chair or the umpire's chair and I was waiting to see if having been broken back and in that manner whether he was then going to shake the umpire's hand but he didn't and we go on Mah hatch now serving at 34 just having a look at some of the scores Schneider has knocked out talson I say that as though talson was the favorite far forit Shen of course the seed player and also having a good run recently in in Canada uh Kalen sky is through uh in straight sets I think that was a while ago actually now and Putin saver is in a bit of a dog fight in the second set although she did win the first I believe she was a br yeah she was yeah her catch was in trouble last I saw um yeah let's have a look his two sister love down oh now he looks like he's GNA the win r i mean kind of surpris is that Christoper conell looks like he might be going into the third round but he does currently face a break point in the third set against beluchi [Applause] yeah I think it's big now for nichelson to get this hold in the first game of the second set [Music] also from a British perspective Katy bter has just started against who ASO okay on serve 32 it's pretty bad draw I would say uh Nan becoming a Novak jovic fan it seems um yes no does sort of do everything better than everyone else so certainly he has a um the best thing possibly I mean it's a lot of unbelievable things that jovic does but maybe it's the fact that his his base level in every Department except for the smash is just still very very very very very good and you know probably the base level in fact almost certainly your base level is more important than your ceiling yeah it's just having that sort of to fall back on and a lot of time you see some players I mean that Springs to mind is Sophia kenon can be fantastic like she was at points the other night but also can be like wful to be to be blunt about it like it can be really bad sometimes shov yeah SV maybe Felix in fact the problem with Felix is I don't find Felix as exciting as I used to either I mean that the the often when we see a player we've got a break point here for sebie corer often when we see a player Dynamic such as shapo and and those other players I mentioned when they go through a bad spell it's because the dynamism is still there but they're just Wayward you know and they're hitting balls out and they're hitting the net and they're just you know because the confidence goes on on on the big shots but with Felix I don't even find him as exciting as I used to yeah I was quite surprised he lost in the first round here I know benx talented player but I think Felix has did a bit better recently but yeah hor showing could precarious position on Nicholson's first side is G the second set 30 all mahash has to saved a set point Sorry a Bak Point drop a lovely drop shot and its break point to the vulnerable [Music] one going to have another break point for sebie cter which was nicely set up after the good return it's it's you know people might be saying well what's going on with cter because you know he's struggling a bit I think it's it's partly because in tennis you can have an issue but you can sort of play around it unlike pretty most sports anyway you know you're injured you you're coming off right in football in particular you're you're no good to anyone whereas in tennis you can sort of find ways to work around it you can you can play more aggressively in certain moments or on certain shots or you can play less aggressively as as quarter is having to sort of just manage around the issue and it's probably because cter ultimately is a better player than the m hatch despite the scoreboard obviously suggesting otherwise well yeah I mean he had that lead in the first uh set the break league and Lead down I didn't know that I think I was kind of keep an eye on it both him and her cach were a break up in that first set and both lost that first set since two sets down so it's been a a rough one but Al a rough one for Nicholson who's been broken in the first game of this this con much like he was in the first where he did break straight back but he's uh up against it yeah I hope wonder how her catch is physically because he's you know coming back off a pretty bad injury that we maybe didn't even expect to see him play again this year um and yet suddenly there he pops up in Canada and we go again yeah there were reports that he wouldn't even be able to play again this year but he obviously defied that and it's done okay really in his come back kind of did he did he withdraw did he retire though in a match in um in Cincinnati maybe although I don't think it was the same injur I think it might just been sickness or something in ciny yeah I'm not sure beluchi serving for the third set allbe he's down a break point 3040 I was just saying earlier about some of the matches I was looking forward to and stand that one for me today is probably oaka M I thought you might say that yeah oaka M um Damian is going to do a a watch along from Midnight UK time for M Osaka and I think at the same time is medev against mosan uh is Osaka on um Ash I hope so uh I would yeah you'd like to think so I mean a grand slam finalist and uh um and also semi-finalist last year in New York in mov yeah and it is on ash yeah I just hope Asaka the same yeah if she can if she can keep that level up I mean it's a kind of a win-win for me that match in terms of the fact that I've got a real soft spot for M yeah I um you know I desperately hope one day she gets gets the gr Lam that I think her Talent deserves um and on the other side you know it's great to see Osaka back playing well and I've got Osaka in my semi-finals in my bracket so yeah what I what what I don't want what I don't want is the winner of that to then go out very quickly or limply in in the third round what I want is whoever wins that match I want them to go deep as in semi-finals yeah I I don't know who they would X but it's Osaka that I have more faith into bills with you right now um uh if she wins then I think you know she's probably getting to the quarters or maybe Beyond if if mova wins it's still one that you're you're thinking every match is a 50/50 if that makes sense I mean I don't know what exactly M draw is but whoever she's playing I don't quite have the same level of confidence I just have a look at the draw now because I know I know that Osaka's draw is not the nicest but it's not the I I think it gets better for her after the first couple of rounds yes so it does because I think it could have been Fernandez but it's actually either lepchenko or Bova so really a winable match after this yeah although B pu I think would be tricky but um yeah yeah I I I you say that about Leila but I almost feel um as though poova is is possibly even trickier than Lea I think I just went off history and put Fernandez I think maybe in my semi-finals which was definitely a a choice yeah yeah I like the way you word that I I think um I just always think this something Fernandez it's just I I always predict the wrong tournaments and when I don't pick it to do yeah wrong you there's certain players or certain times in our predictions when we kind of go big on someone and they don't do well and then you go big on them again because you've got a lot of faith in them and so on and so forth Bor K was one for me is I for about six months I kept thinking Yep this is going to be it I thought 2023 was going to be her year and then she's obviously one of fch and and then basically 2024 I just sort of gave up and then what happens well we know what happened at Wimber yeah um yeah so looking and then the fourth round yeah I mean isn't an easy I'm not I'm not here saying that Osaka's got the easiest run ever to from now on or after Muka so but you're not seeded and you're therefore going to play a top 16 player in the fourth round if that top 16 player is Jasmine palini for example or Putin saver then yeah it's not ego and it's not uh Arena and that's kind of all you can really hope for in that last 16 if you're not seated and and so and and maybe even the back and if she's fit and healthy you probably want to avoid her too so I if if oosaka is in that fourth round it means she's playing pretty well and yeah I I I've obviously backed her to be uh I'm guessing Jasmine palini I don't remember but um I've got Osaka in my semis so she's beating someone in there that fourth round and I'm probably I'm thinking I had palini in the fourth round this seems a safe bet it's a a chance down get a double break on nichelson it's been quite a good game there lots of lengthy rallies I mean nson likes to come to a l a lot so create some fun points a slice but he slices into the net and it's a double break for Yan s in the second set yeah similar story for sinner in a way um not not quite as as as perilous as the first round but sinner obviously got broken in the first set twice but his opponent just wasn't able to to move on and obviously the other night I think he probably lost his serve three or four times didn't he in the first of setting a bit and then there was that that game that you were commenting on um where uh McDonald just was in a lengthy service game and loads of juices and and I think there was a double fault or two in there from McKenzie uh McDonald and then ended up losing his serve and that was the end of the match almost yeah I mean that match turned on its head so quickly said I was looking in big trouble and then in the I think it was the the fourth set he I think he went about 16 points in a row from third set to the fourth set was crazy golden set conversation was there yeah yeah he was halfway there and uh yeah I wonder if he I wonder if he knew I wonder if he knew he might not have done he might he might have done I I think if you break to love you probably if you do it back to back as he may well have done fact if you said he was on 16 points so he was four love up was he with a golden I think he what I'm saying is he he won got three love the third set yeah to love and carry that on into the fourth yeah um he definely went at least the first 12 possibly got it yeah I see what you're saying so he won 16 points in a row but it was four four points at the end of the beginning of the golden set but yeah he may have been aware by the way matat has broken SEI quarter and his serving for the match it justes kind of feel like it it's inevitable with saying yeah um I mean the thing is with the quarter returns he's hitting some decent ones but he's sort of more feels like he's using the pace of Mah hatches serve rather than rather than swinging at the returns do you know what I mean so again um and that's exactly how the first point panned out and Mah hatch wins it 15 love oh is Al serving for the match so it would be interesting to see who can get there first yeah C's won the second point so that's a 15 all I'm just going to leave you for a few minutes because there's uh an interesting moment with F's match so I'll be back five 10 minutes I guess cool see a bit so we're here with s now at three with a double break see in the first set is at 315 it's a good from a lot better today actually get en twice in that first set J I think it's been a lot better as we hit the hour mark in this contest serve does get back oh it felt like it was on the plate there smash it away but he it's wild one long of the Baseline just as his comp M analy gets the win over Roman safin straight sets and the match that John was watching is also just finished as Thomas mahat beats Sebastian C who was hampered with an injury to his arm I believe bit wrist that's long does take the game so four La in this second set quite comfortable in the women's St you've currently got the tie break between priton saver and wag jinu um priton saver won the first set um and is now to points away from the match but she won't have it all her own way and uh the British perspective KY B mono for three [Music] up two all in the early stages of that strong 15 the back and down the line into the net Alex nichelson really looks starting to look a bit dejected which is I mean understandable given the score line has such a close first set and is really not kept up the pace in this second I mean we did say that we thought the first set was quite important for him to win when he didn't it seems to a bit of an impact so serve in down the line from SIM again from Vol it and yes it's going 40 on the m so is is really not enjoying this second set win that point and we're at 154 so save one of those three break points f pump kind of it seems a little sarcastic as such from hope yourself in some way whatever way works for you in nice big forand until goes the pass shop does go wide so two break points saved from the American well be a to save the final one against first into the net the N for or something he looks frustrated with himself as goes five up in this second set we're about be about to step up the change event to serve the two sets of Love lead and jul did win that t and the match consequently against wening you continuing her quite impressive uh 2024 season herat fighting to stay in the match at the moment it's fall he two sets left down against Jordan Thompson fall in the third under 30 is serve so actually another seed about to go but I don't think it be biggest of shock shock the Jordan Thompson was a challenge and he's had a decent results recently her cat is still kind of recovering from the injury that he obtained at won so steps the Ser for the second set would be a bagel if he was to do so cross rally here go the forand approach the as it's done so many times and the volley is long these volumes are not coming off anymore for Alex mson interesting to see what his net point ratio was just a quick look that he's quite stubb such but enjoying that it works for him five out of 16 points at the net quite de the second St it's been one out seven a low percentage he wi that point on the forand winner and 50 justes get some that point with hit a volley into the net missing some volleys but that was one sin disappointed with that good first third there from C return and these two points away from taking second fantastic sir from yeah the the sorry now on the the scoreboard scoreboard screen is in John's hand and he's he's gone off a bit so might have to wait for him to come back but it's currently 4030 5ow 40 30 a set point Forex s try keep as updated as possible the score I don't have the power to do that the moment out from Nicholson and S takes the second set very comfortably so six4 six love two sets to love up is yanx and one set away from reach in the third round a tough set there for nichelson as they sit down the uh set break I'm not sure is going to go off the court or not but through the ground so far beating saf in straight sets M hatch beating cord in straight sets and currently Christopher Collins two sets to one up on tici then Jord Thompson's two to L up on herat but herat is two points away from taking the third so 30 old and Thompson serve the wooden straw we've got Casey P to 54 up serve and 153 so could be approaching the first set for Balter but dollar hiy is currently break up in the first Irani yes and I believe no e is on after y CER and if he car keeps at this pace might not be too far in the future taken on Ina Shahara Ina Shahara obviously focusing more on Singles this year and found great success in the first main first main draw round match in the other day against darus savel Katy B has a set point against P banero four five 34 players returning to the court NE about to serve CL again this he broken in the first game of both the first and second set so be hoping to change that can win a single game in that second to break the games is actually lost the last maybe eight games and quite a run and another line Sun into the m so 15 just need to panic and keep that get that F percentage up maybe also CH play trust his net play but it's not been that effective against him today that is a good SP but it's returned into into I noticed that K had a set point against mono buto held and it's five all that's a nice Vol there from Alex Michelson who moves 45 up in this first service game of the third set now the scoreboard is back up for you to see second fromon is in and the back hand is into the net so he hasn't quite seal that just yet his back off the the top of there and he's got second so from s CR for hands so it goes to Center and some back into the net so we go for 4015 served juice and uh sure there'll be some nerves mix he's been broken both of the first s games in both first and second set also hasn't won a game in eight so yeah t scenes it's still not over told nice back there and yes hits it wide so another game point for Alex cat be strugling now 40 five third already lost both the first two sets so potentially May towards an exit from the US Open and Alex does win the game needed that the American bit of a confidence booster that will be for him in his first G first set and one up in this third already better signs 20 hi Dave thanks for joining us again in the uh early Parts this first set between Alex s and um Alex melson I believe John will be join this at some point he just gone to much Jame far the pl challenger but still going on back to back AC Cross Court nice back there from just find the line and this is looking a lot better so far in this third set because I haven't been watching here her cat I could just a quick look we see if he has wearing a brace and it would make sense given his recent recent injury struggles you know one game W CH thps about to Ser third set does seem as though I on he might be about to exit the USA in the second round that' be a top 10 seed potentially losing yeah I'd be surprised if it was 100% just yet given that I mean there were reports I don't know how accurate his reports there were reports that he wouldn't even time for this season but he kind of surprised everybody com back in Canada and seems to be the year of the miracle KNE surgeries I Alex nichs at 45 to hold home and uh get back on a piece in this third set but still not maor sh so nice yeah nice one two combo I come right into the corner at one a pie in this third set by two sets love St Katy bol's now gone from having a set point against braso to facing potentially losing this first set have down 65 Clos in in that first set did that find the line from yeah it did it must just cpse the line down the line forehand not much in that at all and Jessica br does take the first against Katy Bolter disappointment for the Brit who had a set point just having a run to perhaps only one away from third round of the US Open SP ne's making nice work at this this service game much more comfortable and first really struggled in that second but out 40 love and Ste to go back to back service HS possibly for the first time in this match that's how yeah nice love hold there he really reinvigorated in this third set Jordan Thompson match on top now has a match point to beat the the top 10 seed in straight sets hi Ashley welcome back to the stream just say how Alex Michelson has made it already a much better start thir in the second both this side games and it's 21 just quickly see if I can catch this match point with Jordan to catch take austral against seven seed see he been struggles with injury recently is out and back into net her cat and Jordan Thompson takes the win beating the seventh seed in straight sets it's been a tough tough couple of months fight her catch but impressive some Jordan Thompson who is always a threat against these biger higher ranked players as I switch back to the Alex Alex Nicholson winning the first point on the serve that one two in this third set but love up I mean in terms of her cat maybe an upset in terms of the ranking but I think given current Fitness situation and form I don't think it be too much of a surprise yeah Dave agree with that but it's not big surprise I I think it's kind of it's a difficult second round match and uh just need find way to go back up hello Ashley welcome back that's a easy love hold for Alex get back at two so both just have back to back GL holds and uh in the balance yeah it has been a good few results recently for Thompson be um be I believe in since Draper in in Canada so yeah it's he's definitely not the one to be hooked fast I'm not sure who he'll play now in the third round because draw opened up a little top 10 seed exting I think that's probably the most open section of L STW I think diol could possibly be in that section yeah Al Jordan TOS play Mato Ori a young Italian so big opportunity for both of those and obious Nicholson's been doing better in his set in terms of his serve but it's love 30 down so big pressure on the American to keep himself in this set and consequently the match second serve here oh that's a back hand another one finds it and swats it away three break points for yex to really push towards the finish line the screen just showing that Jasmine Pini getting into way against form one and fin in US carrying the FL potentially inging match there oh oh yes John my producers just saying that that is actually over because tied in the first set interested to know what's happened there has just save one of the the break points but still two to go yeah plus retiring retiring in the first game has and C does get the break to uh three to up in this Final in this third and potentially final set no one knows what's happen with carry the P do let me know I'm just going to do a bit do some research myself it seems bizarre it's ti so early maybe going to the ti after three points to car p all right so Ken Pisha tweaked her ankle apparently in the third point of the match and uh was forced to retire gifting Jasmine P need the buy to the the third round so uh short outing for Jasmine Pini today and can anyone see any way back for for Alex M nowly two sets to left down Al a breakdown now in this in this thir set or is it just going to inevitably cruise to the finish line and the net good start to G for yanic who has definitely been a lot more consistent in this match than he was against McDonald again not the strongest start but not as a to a different level comp to usual another nice side from already just m through this service game pushing towards that finish line from CS in the rally commences back the L down the center now forand can't get it back it's 40 love y so hold to love 42 up he's he's only two games away now from winning this match Dave asking about who do I think will have a better career between Sebastian C and Felix or Al hen both likeed but it's hard to see they to up the level from now yeah it's it's tough I mean fix at is always as the next big thing when he had that breakthrough at won and he's had flashes Ian he was really good Davis C that time R in Canada when they went on to win um but yeah is I think I think I'd probably go Felix I mean he's probably more reliable in terms of injuries C again today had some struggles so uh yeah I think i' probably go with or seem but I don't think in terms of the peak level I don't there's much between them and Sani taking the first against Caroline doah was definitely a breakdown at one point big pressure on nson now he L de down and got second Ser here has to hold G have a chance in this match a breakdown third set and it's down 30 with four hand fromex that's kakis and N Warriors is just got under way also as K is currently a break up on miror and so interesting one there KY B looks to be really struggling now against missing three break points after losing the first set and also his three break points is Alex Michel hit a back there potentially could be a double breakdown in a moment yeah I mean Sebastian C is definitely talented they but I think just can't see keeping up with the rest of the pack a big American pack coming will he be able to stick with them then ch's looking really good at this tournament TFO is starting to find his Fe again FRS always Fairly reliable Tommy PA also not quite taking the break just yet and who knows Alexon could potentially be the next American to to crack into the C positions he's had a tough outing today but against the best TR in the world at the moment understandable he does save another break point there can we save the third for into than that he's definitely lowered his double fults there a big problem for in the first set and he gets a nice or C gets yeah brilliant from the Alex down the line beforehand and look can't get to it and he does take that double break and now five to third set starting for the match after this change of ends very comfortable performance from today yeah Dave not particularly a fan of Alex mson John is our producer John Ison fny likes his uh sort of emotional quality on C but yeah he's I think he's he a work in progress only just turned 20 but yeah I think top 30 is about right from what I've seen so far so about to step up for Ser for the match against Alex mcon on Arthur R Stadium to put a rally there but sprayed it back I think it has been background it's been more of a a liability for today quite a few into there and not find the court the into the net that was more about the power of and accuracy of sin serve rather than Nicholson's return yeah I mean Dave that's what we were talking about earlier how jovic is just so good at the base level of everything and even when he's not at his best he can fall back on that and it's what makes him the best player in the world not the best player in the world this year but the last so many years and still always competing with the best at 37 years old from so not not just over the line just yet minut second St here one just go ly this one slice back the back slice from down the line so that had really good whip on it and just nothing look do about that find the corner of the the core and beautiful beautiful shot and S has two match points for a straight set victory over that and puts it away that's way to finish the match be anex here three straight set 64 6 left 62 a tough out Alexon but think can learn a lot from playing on such a big core at his home ground Slam against theable one a good learning experience for him Alex safely through to the third round H well I missed the last set in a bit but it went by pretty quickly Matt right yeah that second was set was particularly quick but the third nson did start to to regroup a bit but s just had too much in the end where and why did it all unravel then for mlon I mean in in ven we actually seemed to lower the double faults as the match went on but the back hand errors were really quite high and also he was quite big on coming into the net I that's his game style but it wasn't always working I think Len's accuracy on the the passing shots it's causing quite a few problems for him yeah oh well so it's a bit a little bit like the other day maybe there was a bit more hope for McKenzie than there was for Alex but um fingers crossed he can bounce back pretty quick big thanks by the way Matt for uh seeing us through that match and uh well it went by pretty quickly in the end but we'll catch up again soon yes definitely cheers everyone
