Sundays with Serby: Cornerback D.J. Reed has 'faith and belief' in the 2024 Jets

all right football season kicks off this week in New York Post sports columnist Steve serby he's in regular season form at least I think and he caught up with New York Jets quarterback DJ Reid this week so let's see what form Steve is in as we catch up with him we also need to see how he's looking let's see how Steve looks this week because he's been very stylish and ah there we go Steve with a leopard print Blazer I think leopard print could be some other spotted animal but out here looking like a young Rod Stewart what's going on Steve Rod Stewart what you you think this is something that that Clyde Fraser might like oh yeah you look like you went straight to his wardrobe picked that out because I'll tell you what I don't know where you got that but it seems like it would be out of the wal Clyde Frasier Wardrobe does seem like that yeah yeah well I'm not going toh confirm or deny uh whether I got it from Clyde but uh this is not a Men's Warehouse uh production what a sh I a tell what a sh well there well very stylish I might say I think for the first time I'm going to say something you always say to me uh you think that certain things that I wear you would not be able to pull off I can tell you for sure I would not be able to pull that off that oh I disagree you could you could pull anything off I don't know about that but they usually say it's about confidence and you are exuding a lot of confidence with that outfit and we like it here on Sundays with serby Steve some of some of your swag has rubbed off on me you got the word Swagger again there there we there we go for we had drip now we have Swagger I I like it very good Steve but Steve we got to talk about your Q&A this week with DJ Reed and Reed talked a lot about visual visualization I can say that word and meditation as part of his daily routine how do you think his mindset and these practices influence his performance on the field especially in such a high pressure market like right here in New York well DJ Reed is 5 foot n and thinks he's 6 foot6 and that's the way he plays totally unintimidated and unfazed by going up against receivers three four five sometimes six inches taller than him he's got an alter ego that he calls Dark Horse and he has a tattoo of a horse on his left arm and he doesn't know where that came from but that's how he sees himself on the field he sees himself as a giant uh and he's immune to all the things he read and all the things heard as a kid saying he was too small now ESPN just came out with a top 100 list and he was not on it and you could easily make a case that he should be on it s garders called him the top cornerback in the league or the top quarterback on the Jets at least and um DJ Reed doesn't disagree that he belongs in the top 100 and I agree with him I think he does belong in the top 100 the last year of a three-year contract 27 years old about to be 28 would love to retire a jet but understands that this is a business and uh he may not be able to continue his career in a place that he loves in front of fans that he loves all right Alter Ego is the Dark Horse which had me thinking I wonder what your alter ego name is also the how about stylist Steve is that is that the alter ego stylist Steve you going with that no it's the Dark Horse that's how I've always perceived myself the dark the dark horse with the white hair there we go that that there there there we go there that's fine that way that works well okay it's still it's the lighting my hair's black what are you talking about all right we just can't see it at least we saw the leopard print Blazer at least we we could see that right at least we've got that uh Reed also expressed a lot of faith in the Jets potential this season he even mentioned visualizing the team hoisting the lardy trophy every day did you get a sense from him that this belief is shared across the team or is this more of a personal conviction of reeds well I think uh 32 teams across the lead League have that same vision but some are more realistic than others and it is realistic for the Jets with Aaron Rodgers uh and that number one defense that's the goal Reed talks about having a number one defense um he'll have more opportunities for interceptions now because expect the Jets to be playing from ahead for a change finally they have an offense that knows where the end zone is and if Aaron Rogers can give them a lead that will enable the everybody on that defense to eat and um look DJ Reid was part of a Super Bowl team with the 49ers a couple of years ago thought they had the game won and then of course momes got the ball last and worked his magic and and left Reed and the 49 is heartbroken but this is what he thinks about this team when I asked him you know this franchise has not made the playoffs in 13 years and this franchise has not won a division title in 13 years and this franchise has not want a Super Bowl in 55 years his answer to all three were God willingly this will be the year we got the team we can do it so um we'll see we'll see Jet fans are always cautiously optimistic and uh expecting Murphy's Law to rear its ugly head at some point but when the season starts a week from Monday night in San Francisco this will be the Jet's best chance to break the 13-year playoff drought to win the division for the first time since 2002 and uh well we'll talk about the Super Bowl at some other point that may be a little little unrealistic but not in that jet locker room they they believe they have the team that can make a long run all right they believe DJ Reed believes visualizing his team hoisting the Lombardi trophy many of our fans watching this segment every week probably did not visualize that Steve serby would be wearing a leopard print Blazer but here we are there you go yeah well so you like it or not what do you think oh I'm I'm a fan I'm definitely I'm definitely a fan it was unexpected very unexpected surprise but then again with you everything is always an unexpected surprise except for your wonderful q&as that is consistent people expect it they expect the greatness to continue to come so everybody please check out Steve Cy's Q&A with Jets quarterback DJ Reid this week it is a fantastic one as always and Steve next week next Sunday week one of the NFL season the first NFL Sunday of the Season should be an interesting one we'll see who your guest is and we'll also see if you have another stylish suit or blazer for us oh I can assure you I will all right well I like that that's that's a promise people can expect that thank you Steve enjoy the week we'll talk soon thank you Dex
