[Applause] when you see that field of blue you know it can be only one place in the world boyy Idaho on the campus of boisey state and home to the fabled giant Killers the boisey State Broncos today we're set for a class between these two Rivals from the Mountain West as we'll see the San Diego State Aztec taking on the boisey State Broncos for EA Sports college football I'm reys Davis David Pollock and Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it [Music] [Applause] [Music] going the Aztec will kick it away first here he comes from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Broncos offense is on the field for the first time today when this guy comes onto the field David he seems to bring the it factor with him so much fun as a play caller to have a guy you defend on you trust you know Palmer you're going to get the best out of this young man he's also one of those guys David who just elevates everybody else around him right all 10 guys in that huddle offensively just seem to play better knowing they've got confidence in this guy yeah and tight ends aren't just line up and block guys anymore these guys are athletes you line them up all over the field and nowadays you can start to feature him more and more in the passing game going to take a shot at this DB and it's picked off looking for more room he's at the 20 touchdown San Diego State a great return for the touchdown any return for a touchdown is a great one to a defense I mean you talk about coming out of the defense and setting the tone and letting them know it's going to be a long game let's do this how about a pick six on the first possession nice job by the defense coming out and striking first in this longi on the move from inside is five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Boise state has it back ready to go to work on offense well the good news is they threw a touchdown pass last time it was just to the wrong team Jesse well that's an unfortunate part of the game for quarterbacks but guess what they do happen so you've got to be able to turn the page here and Lead this offense well I think you know this defense is going to be aggressive they're going to jump routes they're going to play aggressive you got to take advantage of that maybe use that this time to your advantage the big pickup on first down leaves him with second and one looking to throw it's Nelson they'll run the screen and they knock him down but he got past the line the game that was just a perfectly coreographed screen the line got out on time the running back had a wall in front of it and I think the qu back did a really good job of selling pass and then kind of dodging the pass rush getting it to the running back and that pass is [Applause] intercepted and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision making offense set on first down we they'll go to the counter oh what a move and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there and that would be the definition of first down success putting yourself in a good position it's second and inches I can do whatever I want next I can take a shot down the field I can run the football and get a new set of downs like nice first down execution oh so close to paying off the tip really had it in his hands but it falls incomplete this third down play more than manageable from the 24 can the defense Stand Tall they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions it's good and that lead grows even bigger so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down on the run from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Bronco offense back out there ready to give it another spin mistakes are going to happen as they did on that last drive now how will they respond Jesse and this is the kind of guy who's going to take full accountability that was my bad that's on me I'm about to leave this offense now down the field scor some points dang I wish I would have played with you I didn't play with many quarterbacks that were just like yeah my bad hey guys I got this sorry about that it was more you should have ran a better [Applause] route the give to the backat and the Broncos pick up the first down all right nothing flashy there he just did what it took to get the first down [Music] it'll be first and 10 from the 30 looking to move it through the air and that pressure just engulfed him a sack for this defense man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out after not getting a thing done on first down it's second and long from the 24 they'll throw it to the back on the screen at the 35 he's loose hit the afterburners kid pass the 20 touchdown boyy State and once he got loose it was all over man oh man when you got a weapon like that you got to find him and you got to give him the ball in space you have some plays on your play sheet and some of them just say that guy get him the ball let him do the rest dangerous weapon out of the back field catching the football making the big play and no chance at a return here they'll start this drive at their own 25 San Diego State takes over as the offense is ready to go to work they kicked a field goal on the last Drive Jesse they've got the lead don't make a dumb mistake but maintain your aggressive play caller yeah no doubt I think it's the play caller right now just taking a look at that script he's got in front of him and finding out where are my Playmakers who can we take advantage of on this defense to get a touchdown here D yeah and just keep moving the ball down the field just execute a little bit better in the Red Zone there's no need to panic we're moving the football and we got the lead I like the Poise by the quarterback on that play too because a lot of times as a quarterback you see the blitz coming and immediately you want an audible you want to try to throw the ball but he knew that he had a good run play called and he knew he could leave it on heads up play by the QB they'll get it to the 48 no need to measure it's a first down and the Aztecs come to the line time with a fresh set of downs looking to pass it's Duffy wide open downfield he's running free down the middle and he slipped through the crowd and he'll house it touchdown as TX quarterback's abilities to read the field is huge and also the anticipation the time to be able to throw the football Jesse and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah it's critical David listen a lot of times touchdown passes aren't thrown into the end zone you got to read the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the rest boyy State ready to send out that offense last time they had it they took it down the field for a touchdown they can build some confidence that they could go backto back scoring drives here yeah and remember it's not uncommon for offenses to find themselves as the game goes on they had some things not go their way early but they found something last Drive David let's see if they can build that yeah you you you just pick and pick and pick until you find that place where you're like okay this is an advantage I have they've clearly found that dude they score here we're in for a ball game that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop here comes the offense on First and 10 from the 47 and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback they'll tell you that somebody's always going to pop open but it didn't happen in time before they got the sack no it did not and you know what I'm going to remember this I'm going to remember zone defense they didn't really have an answer they weren't ready to get rid of the football quarterback hesitated I got to him and got him on the ground might be a good call later on in the game third and long from the 42 if they can get some of it it might give them a chance to go for it on fourth down nice defensive play to get a hand in there and knock it away offenses know in work on it all week third Downs third downs we got to be really really good this offense not good on this third down it could come back to bind fires to the wide out he's got him and they convert gets it past the marker for a first down and that's the way we will wrap up the first quarter we're through one and what a back and forth battle between these two quarterbacks as we look at the stats they'll break the seal on this quarter here on first down takes a hand off and he's going right some belief in that running game as they pick up five to the 35 yd line I know the passing game sells and the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards a pop on the ground but it will be very successful good timing on the quick out now he's got it all the way down to the 21 yd line and they are threatening on first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs here's the handoff brought down after a pick up of two to the 19 and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running running the football you can tell quickly complete he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down and when you run those drag routes it just takes a little bit of knowhow and when I say that the receivers got to understand find Space my quarterback's going to find me he's looking for that space at the same time nice throw nice catch way to get the first down oh the QB so lucky that that one wasn't picked off these are small Windows to throw into down here in the red zone defense tipped it up in the air a lot of Defenders lurk and he'll race it to the house touchdown Broncos the 18 unit on the field and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and what a way to finish it with a 9yd touchdown run and they desperately wanted to attempt a return but decided not to instead they'll take the Touchback the drive starts from their own 25 yd line they move the tight end all over from the shotgun now here's an inside G he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 the give to Davis they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down and as an offense having success on a run play like that early in the game just opens up all the possibilities of your playbook moving forward play action running the ball throwing the ball screens anything is at your disposal at this point and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage the Aztec will send out the punch unit the punter going to get his first work of the afternoon and he'll work his way on the return out to the 35 yd line before he stopped boyy state has it back ready to go to work on offense they put it in the end zone the last time they had it and now an opportunity to really take control of this game you can feel the momentum shifting and if they were able to take the football here drive it down the field and score again again Again David they would have all of that momentum on their side and there's nothing about momentum that you can quy like I I don't understand it but once it gets going in One Direction a lot of times it's so hard to swing it back the other direction the momentum is real and they got it find his Target down the middle makes the tackle at the 46 but it's a 15yd gain to get them into plus territory tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they look like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch the give to the running back from the shotgun and he's able to shed one tackle and gets a pretty good pickup listen the defense is about energy it's about passion it's about physicality they need a little bit more of that get the guy in the ground you can't let guys break tackles what could have been set up in a long yard situation now it becomes an easier situation because you couldn't get him on the ground receiver looks it in it's complete they've got it inside the 30 they'll mark it at the 28 it's first down the Broncos are marching down the field we've reached the two-minute warning and we have ourselves a ball game and they have a chance to take the lead here before the [Applause] half now on the move at the 28 yd line on first down 42 SP he wants to throw released to the back grabbed in the middle it's Genty nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down yeah and these halfbacks man they're wide receivers now they do so much work in practice now with the wide receiver group and you can see it there sells like he's going outside picked off got some room to [Applause] run a dangerous cover man and a dangerous Return Man after the pick as he gets it all the way to the 44 yd line guys let's see what adjustments this San Diego State offense has made this time they're trying to get to it and they got him for the sack man a lot of coaches talk about starting the drive positive and the first play that can get you going the QB just kept backing up and going backwards and that is not the start to the drive they were looking for complete to the left he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down this offense is like running a Perfection drill in practice against air chunk play after chunk play and here they come again using the quick game they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground cover to pick up the first now the play fake pressure coming snagged on the outside it's Beverly and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pick up third and short from the 22 is the field goal unit getting ready or is this already four down territory right down the middle it's caught downfield touchdown San Diego State haul it in and just kept right on running to the Hallelujah Land one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch if this quarterback gets through his progression Dave and hits you in stride these guys take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the got to in a room there he goes open it up he will score touchdown Broncos boy nothing electrifies a stadium quite like a return for a touchdown it's always so exciting cuz you don't see him very often got to go so many yards 80 90 yards at a time what a great job by the returners showing the speed providing the electricity there's a reason they're all jacked up and it's because of that awesome kickoff return he thought about bringing that out for a half second but he'll take a knee and they'll bring it to the 25 the Aztec offense ready to go back to work they've got some time to work with here Jesse and if they get a first down they might really get aggressive I'd be aggressive right out of the gate I'd be throwing for a first down if I get it then pedal to the metal I'm in that two-minute mode to try to score a touchdown to get a fi but I do think this is a situation where you also have to understand that I have the lead going into the half I've got the momentum so don't do anything stupid here trying to convert this second and short to the air it's Duffy tight end finds a soft spot they get him at the 42 but he picked up 10 there there's a great example of the offensive coordinator and quarterback being on the exact same page the coordinators antici ipating man coverage the quarterback recognizes it and immediately he knows which receiver to go to to attack this defense that's about as close as you can get to that marker and it will be second and just a few breaths away from the first down and they'll come to the line just needing a few chain links for a first down wants to throw on second down lost the defense he's wide open TouchDown ASX and once he found some daylight it was time to make a house call this receiver is dangerous because of what he can do after the catch once he has the football he is so good at making Defenders miss a saw on that play they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering he'll start the return inside the spot he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Bronco offense back out there ready to give it another spin now you find out just how much of a gunslinger you are will you roll the dice here late in the half David and you know the defense is going to be really really conservative so I think it's an opportunity to be able to take a shot the Freshman able to get home with the sack time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half quarterback wants to throw on second down and he feels the heat coming and it burns him up another sack and the Broncos will kick it off to start the second half 31 21 and it'll be a Touchback the ball will come out to the 25 yd line they'll run this play from the [Music] pistol starting this third quarter on the ground and he he swallowed up at the line of scrimmage by the big defensive tackle they got nothing on the last play it's second and [Applause] 10 they'll go to the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you got to give the defense credit they knew a big key in this one was slowing this dude down especially after how well he played the last time out they have been swarming him they have been gang tackling him and getting a lot of penetration up front [Applause] going to let it fly he's got it he got a foot down along that left sideline you know what it takes to make a throw like that I love when you back the defense off of you if you want to get aggressive I'll take shots down the field make the defense play more conservative and now what now you're in the Red Zone with a chance to get some points headed to the end zone touchdown San Diego State What A Catch and run for six no midseason dos for these guys as they push out the lead in week six and with the extra point they push the lead out a little further about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown they score for the big fell here why are tight ends so effective in the Red Zone well these aren't the guys that are going to burn by you and go for seven most of the time but when you can use their big body frames threaten them to run the football and be a Blocker in the running game now you slip him in the secondary make that big play hand off from the gun and you can forget running in the middle against this defense got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 he's looking to throw on target over the middle and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end wants to throw on first down going deep deep and that one's incomplete worth taking a shot there but couldn't hook up there's a lot of QBs that when they get hit and when they get hurried when they get pressured they become very average really nice job by the defense pressuring the quarterback couldn't connect on first down now back to the air just flying through the air like a superhero to make the grab the Broncos are on the move looking to go up top on first down dances away from the heat can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they'd throw it again and they pick up just one it'll be third and nine I never know if it's grammatically correct to say a team is being out physical you hear a lot in football though that's happening in this game they are just not getting the push they need all game long up front to have any success when they decide to run it the short hands it's baits and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the Stop and a really nice job by the wide receiver you run a drag route fine space they're in zone coverage they're not covering manto man find a little hole look at that QB y'all get on the same page you could tell they were and that's why they got the first down well they just drained all the suspense out of the fourth down conversion moving to to change easily that's a great example of the receiver knowing exactly where the first down marker is he got the depth he needed to get so once he was able to make the catch he already knew he had it now a fresh set of danage getting some heat makes the grab over the middle so close to that end zone he could almost taste it but it'll be first and goal for this offense we got to give the o line a lot of credit there because it gave the receiver time to work all the way across the field on the D rout against Zone coverage and he takes it to the house touchdown boyy State great example of how a second half can really change everything for a team no doubt first half looked bad it looked like it was Bleak it looked like it was ugly but now you're starting to get it turned around that more drives like this is what's needed almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown and he'll just take a knee and this drive will start at the 25 five the offense set for a first down [Music] play looking to throw it's Duffy he's got his man they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down completion a little short of the sticks it's second down he's looking to throw quickly complete he steps out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play I'll tell you QBs and receivers they practice these out routes all week long and You' got to anticipate you've got to be comfortable throwing it before he gets out of his break and they executed it perfectly and this sophomore able to wreak some havoc and get the sack playaction pass success has a lot to do with selling that thing you could tell defense was not buying it got in the back field got the big play on second down looking again to throw got it in the middle it's Tanner and he won't quite get there but boy after that pick up just a few inches to go for the first an array of possibilities here to the ground to try to move the chains that just never had a chance as they controlled the middle of the field and stopped him in the back field on third down and the Aztec line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch boyy State ready to send out that offense this feels like a pivotal moment get the ball back on the punt you need to put points on the board on this drive yeah it's sense of urgency right now has got to be H for this offense trailing the way they are here David they've got to be able to put something together score some points and build confidence yeah it's not panic time but you do want to build that confidence and find something that you can do well to start to build on I think this offense is starting to figure themselves out a little bit keeping it on the ground with the single back not much there they'll give him one to the 14 and this offense is desperate to keep this drive alive trailing by multiple possessions and it's getting late it's complete to the left at the 35 is open a big explosive play by this offense and if you want to control the fourth quarter might as well go in with momentum like that that'll do it for the quarter guys and San Diego State is on top and as we switch ends of the field let's take a quick look at the national rankings one more period to go to see who can make the win plays and come home with the victory back at it to open the quarter with this first down [Applause] play out of the gun the inside hand off looking for a creas and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up halfway there on first down it's second and five he's looking to throw and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground [Applause] incomplete okay this defense will try to force a fourth down on Third and short from the 45 from the gun wants to pass gets it out fast they've got it inside the 40 at the 39 as they pick up the first down and the Broncos racing to the line in the hurry up going up top on first down unloads to the wide out what a snag by the defense no room to return but no problem after making a play like that and they'll have it at the 25 the offense lining up for a first down play Al used the play fake now to throw and he's all bottled up and now it's worse the ball's loose and the defense jumps on it they get the turnover a first down for the offense from the gun running back gets to give and he runs through one tackle and picks up a few you know what everybody gets energized on the whole football team when you got running backs that fight for extra yards and breaks tackles it's awesome to watch everybody literally gets a little jolt of energy cuz that guy could touchdown Broncos and here they come almost all the way back and the p te will draw them one point closer they didn't have a whole lot of real estate in front of them when they took over possession but they wasted no time couple of plays into the end zone and they thought about a return Then thought better of it they'll bring it out to the 25 first down here for the [Music] offense leaves it with the back tackle is made at the 28 after a pick up of three and if you'd have told this defense that they stuffed this great running back today they'd have taken it they'd have been happy but the offense has still put up production and they're still in the lead trying to find a way to finish this one off really good job to pick up a chunk of yardage and get it out to the 39 yd line line gets set first [Applause] down from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back he's brought down but not before they pick up the big first down the Aztecs come to the line with a new set of [Applause] downs leaves it with the running back and a really short game before he gets a whole bunch of company from the defense after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven from the gun they'll try to impose their running game Drag down to the turf but not before getting the first down it's a point in the game I think as a coaching staff where you really challenge your offensive line to go win the football game right we've got to lead late we're going to run the football and the defense and everybody in the stadium knows that's what's going to happen can we run the ball down their throats and impose our will that's what this offense right now is trying to do now on second down they want to keep moving forward and keep that clock churning quick strike complete they make the stop right there good pickup and still short of the first down well that's great timing by the quarterback and receiver on that out route if you're going to be running that against man coverage like they were there that ball has to be thrown early and it's got to be thrown out in front of the receiver and they execute it perfectly to give as they work on that clock nice move to keep run Jaws outside the red zone as they pick up the first down they'll spot it at the 22 and this is so frustrating late in the game when you got to get the football back and you can't stop them my goodness this drive's been going play after play after play this defense has got to find a way to Bow up make something happen get a stop and get the football back quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense didn't get much on first down it's second and [Applause] nine wide receiver now now comes in motion well Jet Sweep pass got some room enter to the goal line touchdown azx and they take it in for six more points if this dude were a kitchen knife he would be slicing tomatoes so thin your in-laws would never come back to your house well that'd be a good thing I don't know if I want my inlaws to come back anyways but he's been on fire he's been absolutely torching this defense they've had absolutely no answers for him he'll bring it back from inside to spot and good work by the coverage team to get the Return Man Down on the ground boyy state has it back ready to go to work on offense now they need to put something together to answer that last score there's a lot of pressure too on this offense to have to execute at a high level they've got to score points D but they can't go too fast cuz their defense right now is tired and I think that's the difficulty in being a play call like I have to balance all of those things my defense is a little bit tired I can't put on the field but I got to be aggressive because this is a back and forth type game so a lot to process and think about and he's knock down immediately but not before he moves the chains and a nice job working the middle of the field I think it's so important to keep defense is honest and you can't just Dink and dunk outside you got to work the middle great job finding this wide receiver over the middle of the field [Applause] from the 47 ydd line on First and 10 he's going to pass fires left he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete well I know that one fell incomplete but what a day this guy's had thrown the football multiple touchdowns and he's done a really nice job with his decision making hasn't thrown any picks which has really helped keep this offense on schedule now on second down after the incompletion they keep attacking through the air that one comes out hot down the right side R out of bounds just before he could get it into the end zone and now they're set up first and goal and that big Gainer on the last one has them ready to go from inside the 10 touchdown Broncos and the comeback is on now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer so that scoring Drive took only six plays and it was capped off with the 8yd run and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return guys we're about to get another look at this San Diego State offense now we've got a little game pressure and we'll see how the offense responds in a three-point game Jesse I can't wait to see this quarterback and how he's going to be able to handle that pressure David how will he respond in this situation and just know I'm only up by three now if I can make this a two-score game I can almost put this away in the fourth quarter not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 keep it on the ground at the 35 he's got room really good job to pick up a chunk of yardage and get it out to the 39 yd line offense getting set for first down they'll ride Davis here he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time time for their offense running out the clock seems to be a mere formality here as they are ready to snap it in Victory formation well points weren't the issue guys but they couldn't string together enough stops to get the victory yeah good news bad news scenario I guess good news is you're going to score this offense looks like they can be explosive and they can light up the scoreboard bad news though David they've got a lot to clean up on the defensive side of the ball yeah and welcome to college football nowadays right this is how it works a ton of points def defenses learn as you go but you got to
