from our studios in New York City this is Charlie Rose we began this evening with Hillary Clinton's press conference of former Secretary of State addressed a controversy over her use of a personal email account while in office instead of the government's email system when I got to work as Secretary of State I opted for convenience to use my personal email account which was allowed by the state department because I thought it would be easier to carry just one device for my work and for my personal emails instead of two looking back it would have been better if I simply used a second email account and carried a second phone but at the time this didn't seem like an issue we went through a thorough process to identify all of my work-related emails and deliver them to the state department at the end I chose not to keep my private personal emails emails about planning Chelsea's wedding or my mother's funeral arrangements condolence notes to friends as well as yoga routines family vacations the other things you typically find in inboxes no one wants their personal emails made public and I think most people understand that and respect that privacy the controversy over whether she purposely used her private email to evade request of federal records is expected to continue secretary Clinton is widely seen as the likely Presidential nominee of the democratic party in 2016 today marks the first time she answered political questions since her 2008 presidential campaign joining me now Mark halpren and John hman of Bloomberg politics they're host of the show with all due respect I am pleased to have them here welcome thank you Charlie welcome back always happy to be at this table I'm happy to have you here about the clintons talking about the clintons nothing better uh okay so John tell me what what's your assessment of this press conference well I think there's uh there was there's on the positive side she um was better than she was on her book tour in a lot of ways in a much more hostile environment she faced a large scrum of reporters many of them foreign journalists who don't normally cover politics but a lot of political journalist she took a fair number of questions she talked for a fair amount of time they talked about this being a brief press conference but she didn't answer about you know 10 questions she went on for about 20 minutes or so um she was at time quite quite poised um but I do think that she did not answer many of the central questions to a lot of people's satisfaction there were questions that she chose not to answer that were asked she evaded various things and I don't think the story is going to go away there's two things that I think are still Central there's for a lot of peripheral issues but I think there are two things that are Central one is I think if you're inclined to believe her uh it's perfectly we
