big announcements I was listening to Jake and Ben and we do have a Leadership Council for BYU and we've got a dep chart for Utah and we've got our schedules all lined up we got a couple of games in the books and we're all just priming the pump man and it was a great weekend how was your weekend oh it was awesome it was great great weekend um just uh hanging with the family getting every everything kind of squared away the last weekend before all hell breaks loose next week trying to get a little prep in and uh watching a little college football hey how do you like my sweater you look good you look good kind can you be uh can you be our model I'd I'd love to model this see I I didn't want to bring a lot of attention to this because uh I do not have one for our producer but uh it's because you don't make mediums for for an for a barbecue company they don't they don't they don't make a small medium mix sorry Lloyd I don't have any uh hoodies for you I have a t-shirt for you if you want a t-shirt Hey Lloyd here's an idea put on some weight and then we'll talk how does that sound okay like I'm I'm skinny fat oh Mr I almost said that you know what there are people that are all shapes and sizes please don't discriminate uh well yours is a slender yeah and spelt spel build yes always has been and well in my mind I see I see something else Scotty and I look at you with Envy yes so we're happy about your build and and the life that you've had a chance to live as a baseball player but we as fullback and offensive lineman we deal with a different type of build light that you just don't quite understand all right the facts okay are you Tweeting it out yep uh yep so Scotty has built a barbecue brand and I'm currently rocking a sweater for the barbecue brand and I'm pretty excited about it who came up with the logo uh I did I like it yeah I was uh I don't know you can go online and get the AI thing and they can build out logos for you pretty easy um who's the uh who's the cooperator is it Brooks yeah yeah yes indeed and uh he's better at this than I am and that is bothering me well no it's always good to have your son be better at everything and that's what I'm currently going through it's been kind of interesting everybody likes him more oh he's the flavor of the month right now it's all right he is the flavor of theth I get it is the flavor of the month I totally get it my my little Aggie yeah that looks good good picture yeah that's great my little Aggie bound football player he's so excited about Logan Scotty oh well guess what there are people that are through the roof excited about him and I was talking to some people over the weekend that really that took a look at some of the film from the last game we're like cannot wait to get that guy up here and I said uh I said you're still recruiting he's like oh not a day goes by we're not loving that kid up they're they're amazing Utah state has been amazing and I'll tell you there's been some other universities that have been absolutely amazing oh I bet uh right now he is just in love with Logan we were up there for a family reunion and all the family was coming up to him because there my entire family is in Logan everybody my brother all his kids cousins my aunt and uncles probably four or five sets of Aunt and uncles everybody's up there and so we had this big reunion and they're all coming up to him and loving him I can't believe you're going to be in the so he's just do you ever need any laundry done or you need a good hot meal we got you I pulled them all aside I said did uh the coach tring call you did he put you up to this hey that would be smart on his part what what what kind of family reunion is this because it feels like a big Aggy recruiting party at my family reunion right now it it was pretty fun well cuz they're all Aggie fans oh yeah the whole cre and they're all uh you know they're all invested in making sure that uh the talent level is where it needs to be and Rock right now is killing it that video the the mon or the video clips that you sent me that dude's playing with some anger he is he's mad he's like literally one of the nicest kids on the planet but boy he can flip a switch he's mad he's playing with a chip on his shoulder so I'm happy about that yeah play Angry son uh have Hate in Your Heart when you're on a field even as an offensive lineman when you walk off the field let it clear a little bit so my sweet aunt I've got an aunt that's the like the most kind genuine hearted person that you'd ever know in your life and I was down kind of on the sidelines and at halftime she came down to the fence and was like HS so I come over she's like why is he so mean and I said well that's I said Kon that's how you play you got got to you got to be mean he said well yeah but you don't want to hurt people and I said well in between the whistles yeah you you kind of do kind of do if you can but now legally like you you don't want to bite ankles no and jump in the backs and knees but if you're just grabbing a guy and flattening him then that's a pretty good thing yeah so it was it's been fun man it has been a lot of fun well he's all the good things that are coming to him he's earned and deserved so I could not be happier for him hey do you want to know what else indicates that it's game week what's that do you notice anything different about me uh you're clean shaving there you go goatee is gone is did would Greg not let the goatee in the uh uh that in the booth when when you're calling for BYU you're living by the code you can't have a goatee mm really no no goatees at BYU for some reason I thought goatees were okay mustaches are okay mustaches are great but go but as long as it but it hits below the chin then you're in trouble then you're in trouble in fact mustaches are encouraged I just can't do it I can't yeah I I think mustaches are kind of gross actually I I do too I'm not a fan never have been I I did handlebars for a little bit Tom Cel can pull it off there's a couple dudes that can pull it off other than that no Tom cel's a classy mustache you get most guys with mustaches look like they should have a red dot above their house that's absolutely true do I look older do I look older or younger that's not a mustache brother oh it is it's a good effort but you you'll get there eventually our Tech caught her he just threw his hands up like y hey I got a mustache oh uh do I look younger uh it does make you look a little younger yeah and I think I'm GNA stay this way but mama likes the goatee she does yeah but you're like hey you like that extra see you like that extra cheddar the goatee got to go mama's been throwing me tips like buying me chaps and you know suggesting I find a Harley and get myself a nice midlife crisis going there's oh really she's encouraging the mid crisis she wants something to break like you got to do you got to be Mr Mr bad guy oh man Mr tough cat there's a uh yeah there was there there was a there's a couple different things that that women have have really latched on to in terms of trying to dress up their dudes there was the um uh trying to be ripped from Yellowstone uhhuh and then everybody wanted their guy to be you know Maverick or or or the dude with the mustache from uh from Top Gun and it's like like the Miles Teller you know oh yeah yeah yeah and it's just like hey man I forgot he had a mustache you got what you got there really no fixing this well you know and by the way my wife is not been one of those at all not really no okay thank goodness am encouraged to dye my goatee black put on a black cowboy hat wear chaps and nothing else what's the guy's name Rip Rip but but but she's like we'll just call you sip woman I don't got time for you today I don't have the I don't have the energy for you today oh Beth Beth's a handful man yeah sure all right we got ourselves a week let's go folks a lot to break down today you're going to hear from Kyle Whittingham you're going to hear from colani satake uh it'll be the first of 12 editions of all right or okay uh we will do that at 205 with Kyle Whittingham 105 will be colani satake is that correct Lloyd do I have the order right on that so we got we got uh we got you locked and loaded let's get kick it off it's your starting lineup right here on 975 the ekl Sports Zone this is H and Scotty G let's go go the lineup is set and it's time to kick off the show with the biggest topic of the day this is the starting lineup on 975 the KSL Sports Zone it's your starting lineup right here on 975 the KSL Sports Zone as it is game week folks and Utah has released their depth chart for their notes Utah state has released their depth chart as well we talk about that a little bit later on and Nate drying will join us tomorrow at 12:30 normally he's going to join us right out of the gate at 12:05 Mark Harlin is going to join us tomorrow right out of the gate at 12 o'clock and Nate drying will join us at 12:30 very good we got ourselves a week it's going to be a big week yeah um couple of thoughts from the Utah depth chart I'm sure you've gone over it with a fine to comb as well Scotty but couple of thoughts couple of things that jumped out to me and I would go first and foremost but I think that we've just got a bunch of things that need some conversation yeah uh I was excited to see that Caleb loner did make the depth chart in fact he's listed as an or on the two deep at the tight end position and I have talked about him being one of the Dark Horse participants one of the Darkhorse offensive juggernauts for the University of Utah I expect to see Caleb loner with targets with re ceptions and with some yardage this year and I expect him to do some big things remember he's only got one year of Eligibility so if a kid comes to you Scotty and he is a freak athlete and he's like hey coach I want to play for you and he's 68 and he's 235 240 PBS and he says coach I want to play for you there's a couple things you do first you engage and you say all right let's get you going with the guys you throw them in the locker room and you see how he mixes Yeah by all accounts he mixed really well in the locker room then you say all right let's see how 68 deals with contact let's see if he shies away from physicality and you put him in drills and you give him opportunities to be physical and you just see how does he react by all accounts from what I'm being told he reacted well to contact he reacted well to physicality which was the million-dollar question I think we all had I don't think any of us were concerned about him mixing with a locker room he's a good dude good good guy way laidback I've heard he's a Zen master yeah he's uh got a little bit of uh sunshine in him from uh Remember the Titans absolutely little California border but you take it a step further how does that guy handle a contact how does he handle that kind of aggression and surprisingly well yeah surprisingly I didn't think that was going to go over very well but by all accounts he's done that really well and then you throw him into the mix you throw him into the mix in in every sense and you give him the Playbook and you say all right can he learn well yeah he's going to learn well because he's a college basketball player yeah and he's been playing competitive Sports the majority of his life so yeah he's going to learn well and then there's one more aspect that you look at say does he have it and that's the it factor it's like does he have it does he find the soft spots does he hit the routes does he understand the concepts does he have a connectivity with the quarterback does he want it does he want to be an NFL guy and Scotty from what i' be what I'm being told is that's all he wants in his life now he wants to be an NFL guy so that's why I'm really high on Caleb loner that's why I'm expecting to see targets and and it's not like there's going to be the gates and the floods open up against Southern Utah and we see him and and we see him with 50 we see him with 50 you know 50 receptions in the first two games like that's just not that's just not how it is yeah like he's I'm sure that he's going to go through some things oh it's not going to be easy for him and and I'm sure that it's going to take a minute for the the staff to trust him and for Andy lwig to say all right let's go yeah it's the Caleb loner show but and and I probably spent too much time on this but I was happy to see that he made the two deep and I'm excited for Utah fans to get a sense of what Caleb loner is going to be all about who do you think is who who get sacrificed for Reps for Caleb loner o well uh miki's number one Miki Miki but it can't even be Landon King can it no I think I think it's I think it's your Carson Ryan yeah I think that dude really felt like he was going to be able to slip in and be a huge contributor for this team and I think a lot of us thought so too I did uh he' built a little bit of a resum in in in in transferring and and uh and had some background and had some success and and if Caleb loner gets an opportunity and he plays really well then I think that's a guy that may have a hard time seeing the field well you got to imagine you know we're talking about a tight end position and you can't play 12 and 13 yeah you you can line up and in a trip tight end look and you can oh yeah do a lot of things in this Andy lewe offense but we're talking about six tight ends I know and we're talking about kayb boner fighting for number five number number four number five which bumps out potentially Miki sugat taga and Carson Ryan because Landon King is going to get his yes bran Keith is gonna get his yep I still think Caleb loner is gonna get his if you ask me at the end of oh man and they're okay at the end of the season who has more receptions Carson Ryan or I'm gonna go loner loner I'm gonna go loner and I think loner too I think he I think it'll be loner too I think your tight end receptions will look like oh man it's that is such a lofty guess I think it'll go Brent keithy I think it'll go Kay leoner he'll go Landon King yeah miki's not going to rack up a bunch of receptions Carson Ryan and then M's goingon to get a lot of plank or not me not mey Landon yeah I know you're talking about yeah L L I think L will be third yeah Lan is a just a Red Zone nightmare yeah is what he is yeah but the tight end position is a wild thing at the University of Utah right now well it just it it it just blows me away and I know we've talked about this a lot in how Andy lwig has been the Catalyst for this switch for and and and Freddy Winningham by the way deserves a ton of credit too don't I don't want to discredit what Freddy's brought to the table but when I mean if I'm Jake Murphy I gotta be just kicking myself like why why was this not going on when I was there I know I know Wesley Tonga has got to be like where was this when I was there I know cuz because because those guys were NFL Titans oh absolutely they were long-term NFL Titans another thing that stood out to me Utah State transfer Paul Fitzgerald Paul Fitzgerald yeah he ended up making the two deep which John Henry Dy BYU transfer did not yeah and this is all very fluid it can change pretty quickly absolutely yeah and these depth charts we've known for years that KY Winningham uses them yeah well I the staff uses them yeah to try to tell the story and and so Paul Fitzgerald makes the two deep behind Conor atol and then Logan fono and Van fillinger named as co-starters at the opposite end so you can use Logan Fondo in a lot of ways I I still think you can have Logan funel on the field with Van finger so you can use him in a lot of different ways and and as long as he's healthy you find a way to keep him on the field and and I think that's what Utah's doing yeah figuring out okay we just got to keep this guy on the field um how much so Paul Fitzgerald had nine sacks last year at Utah State that was a good get for Utah John Henry Dy really hasn't done much yet on the Collegiate level I has done anything we we all anticipate that he will just based off what he did in in high school exactly so how much do you in the early part kind of appeased the guy that made a big move and because that's a statement that you need to make to other transfers hey if you if you take a chance on us we're going to give you a chance a lot now if it shakes out that John Henry Dy is the better player then you'll see those things come back down to earth a little bit but I think early on you have to play the game a little bit and let you know let transfers know like we give you you take a chance on jumping into the portal and coming here we're going to reward you yeah for sure um but and I also think that there's a chance Paul Fitz just a better defensive end too could very very very easily you know because John Henry Dy did get on the field for BYU last year and he was just off a mission yes so he's fresh off a mission and he's trying to get his mission legs out and he's he's trying to get himself back in the game and he and his brother both leave by and it was kind of a shock I think to BYU it was a shock to me that he left oh yeah but we'll see if he's going to be able to even get on the field for Utah this year I think it's going to be really difficult we look at the sacks last year you lose the 12 sacks from Jonah Ellis but you've got second leading sacker Connor otou Who's Back third leading sacker Logan Foo who only played what four games five games uh yeah four games four games and Logan F was your third leading sacker he had more sacks than van finger now van finger missed games too so both of them had limited times little Li limited time last year but both are back um M linebacker C votu who did make the 60 and 60 yes I don't remember where he came in but we had a little birdie tell us that c photo should be on the 60 and 60 and and I'm glad we did and I'm glad we did yep and sometimes we have to shun the bird and most of the time we listen to the bird that's and that's why we have these conversations and the bird told us put C fotu on so C fotu gets the start at MC linebacker where did he check in Lloyd 58 okay and and I I think by the end of this it might prove that he he belongs a little higher yep than that potentially um okay on a personal note and and I'm sure you felt the same way because he made his announcement right here on the Hansen Scotty show Smith Snowden named as a starter for this University of Utah defense as a sophomore played as a true freshman did had a lot of special team service came in and and rotated in different uh different um responsibilities and he's been named your starting nichel beer yeah which is a huge role in the Big 12 with everybody throwing wide receivers all over the place it will be 70 to 75% of the time yes easily would be my guess yep I think that's a fair guess and then um Gilman checked in at your strong safety and tail Johnson checked in at your free safety I was a little bit surpris and by the way Nate Richie is named as an or with T Johnson yeah I was a little bit surprised because I thought that they might find a way to work tail and Nate Nate together together and I think you probably will see that to a certain extent I was a little surprised by that one as well but Gilman named your strong safety and I and I think you're right I think you can play Smith tail and Nate Richie out there all together with Keenan Johnson zayon so as I was going through this dep chart I was asking myself the question if they all stayed healthy how many Big 12 first team players do we have on this 2D or on this uh depth chart for defense for no across the board across the board um all right first team team I would put keithy first team yes I would put Lander Barton first team yes Reed first team yes um tauna first team yes uh fillinger no no uh fono possibly maybe but it's not a it's not a yes yes right now yeah um so you got four defensively yeah how about Logan Foo and by the way I'm I'm not counting ton ofasa out zamaya Von I think has a chance Zay Von very good chance yeah uh Connor o tul might lead the Big 12 in Sachs could very well could this is ridiculous I I so what I think is I think he got five five or six yeah just based off the Big 12 and how they how they think and act yeah I think you've got four defensively yeah that are like you can you can plant them four defensively and then I think you've got three offensively yeah Spencer funo will be a first team Spencer funno will be a first team offensive tackle yeah as as long as he's good to go cam Rising should be I don't think cam will be first team if he wins it if they win there's just a lot of good quarterbacks there are I mean let's say the dude from Kansas stays healthy there's not Pack 12 like but there's there's good a lot of stat like you're talking about Avery Johnson uh Kansas State or no I think in Kansas oh okay uh what's I'm jayen Daniels Jaylen Daniels like there's going to be a lot of dudes that are gonna rack up a ton of stats and I don't think Cam's going to be stat crazy this year now I think he's going to rack up a lot of wins but uh I you know the the whole dual threat thing that I think some of these other Big 12 quarterbacks are going to put together might be a little bit more Gody stats that might lead them to be first team so Spencer Foo Brent keithy possibly cam rising in by the way make no mistake I don't think there is a player more important to the ultimate success of their team than cam Rising yeah I just think and I'm just predicting what a lot of Voters will vote towards I if Utah wins the thing I always think the starting quarterback of the team that wins the conference should be your first team quarterback so I'm not saying cam wouldn't be deserving of it I'm just thinking how some of the voters out there that get all enamored with numbers and I don't think cam will put up some of the numbers that some of these other quarterbacks will and there's there's some really good quarterbacks out there I mean shadur Sanders is oh yeah you know that's the one you got to look at and by the way we Scotty and I are talking first team not Big 12 mentions no no first team and it's it would be kind of difficult for him to unse toer Sanders or you know remember you got KJ Jefferson back in this league exactly with Gus Mount Maan which is going to be a very interesting combination oh and Noah faid oh with Arizona uh so I mean just it's going to be a difficult yeah yeah let's yeah remove that one yeah so two offensively four defensively you're probably going to have at least six first team Big 12 players hands in Scotty it's all right here on 975 the KSL Sports Zone it's game week for the youths and the zone is getting you ready for kickoff it's time to kick off the 2024 season as Kyle Winningham and the ukes open the year with an instate battle against Southern Utah listen all week long for the best coverage of Utah football and your chance to win tickets to the game then catch the you pregame show this Thursday at 6 with a postgame show immediately following the game your home for the best coverage of Utah football is live on air online and on the KSL Sports s this is 975 the KSL Sports Z your home for the best college football coverage in Utah is on the KSL Sports s it's a Thursday night opener for the youths as they welcome in southern Utah to rackle Stadium your home for the best coverage of Utah football is right here on 975 the KSL Sports Zone this is H ssen and Scotty CH presented by Mountain Land Supply on 975 the KSL Sports [Music] Zone H in Scotty 9 75 the KSL Sports Zone by the way during the last segment BYU releasing their depth chart and uh hands a lot of ores 20 ores on the sheet yes 20 ores so it just leaves them a ton of options and that's fine they can run it the way they want to run it and I will build out my depth chart the best I can for game day BYU traditionally is the hardest to build out a dep chart it spotting board for it is fine and I don't know how I'd run things cuz I'm not in it yeah you know everybody's kind of got their different way of running things my guess is Scotty I would be the type of Personality that says screw you like who who are you why do you need to know why does anybody need to know yeah no I I could totally see you as a coach doing that like I don't have to tell you anything I don't have to tell you anything so here's here's our roster with ores listed by it you figured out yeah you want it you do the homework that but I'm not going to give anybody any help because you don't know what I'm trying to do anyways and and that really is the case in pretty much every scenario I'll give you for instance so michah Harper is listed as your starting nickel and your starting strong safe well their whole idea is we're going to make sure Michael Harper's on the field in a runstop playmaking opportunity so when we go nickel m is at the nickel because Micah will be your outside run stopping Defender when we go traditional D and we've got our two deeps mic is at the strong safety and Micah is going to be walked up and we're going to have him in tackle support so what do you want me to do how do you want me to list Micah oh you tell me then yeah you know all right smart guy all right smart guy you want to just come in and redefine who's doing what and where and why but there are a couple things here um there's some underclassman that made the list I was excited to see that Cody Hagen made it and he is an upand cominging receiver that I thought was spectacular through camp and it wasn't just him Taya made it too yeah you you pointed out Hagen a couple times early yeah uh Hagen and and nakua have both been listed on the depth chart another young name that we saw as a big time recruit that is listed on the three deep behind Logan loule Isaiah B is ephra masata listed at that defensive in position has to be on there now they as much work as they put in making sure that they secured him there's no way he was not going to be there right 63 210 pounds I want everybody to all right He's listed at 210 if you list a guy at 210 198 so what I would do you know two 200 205 you know but what I would do is I'm circling epir masata put a put a big circle around him because if it's Isaiah B we know him and if Isaiah gets to three sacks this season it would be triple what he got last season um I don't know as much about Logan loule I have watched him rush and I hope that he could be a five to eight sack guy but he's got a prove it ephra ephra masiat was the guy so put the circle on him and see if that young guy come in can come in and make a huge difference right away I do love the combo of your starting defensive tackles John Nelson and Blake M BL mson you you've mentioned that for a long time I like them and I I actually think those D tackles are going to be really good and the other thing that's interesting four across the board all seniors Isaiah B Blake mangles John Nelson Tyler baddy all veterans so you a lot of experience there you better get that veteran leadership out of them because behind them you've got a sophomore and Isaac alasker a sophomore and Harrison tagert a junior in Jack Kelly as a transfer those are your three next row Defenders okay you listed one guy as a transfer and again we'll go back to this BYU was not good defensively they did not have a good pass rush last year they not good against the run and they're hoping a year of development and Gary Anderson and another year with Jay Hill can Elevate the talent that's already there yeah and that's that's a big if and I would love to see them be able to do that and sometimes that sometimes you just need an extra year AB of strength and development and of coaching and you can take that next jump but BYU went all in on their dudes yeah and said no we feel like we can run this back and be okay and we're going to find out real quick basically adding Jack Kelly and running it back yeah yep um happy to get Mah Harper back oh yeah and that that's that kind of feels a little bit like a a transfer well yeah because if Micah Harper could be your Co Bishop yes then life changes for that defense yeah but I I do want to throw back to the opener last year for BYU they pitched a shut out against Sam Houston MH beat them what was it 14 to nothing or 21 to nothing or 28 to nothing but they pitched a shut out in that opener and I remember watching the defense thinking okay there's that influence yeah well I'd expect the same type of defense against Southern Illinois 14- nothing 14- nothing yeah I forgot that that was only a two touchdown game yeah Sam Houston was good I do think Sam Houston is better than Southern Illinois but Scotty that defense should do the same thing against Southern Illinois yes I am not I don't know why Southern Illinois checked in at number four in their conference I don't know why they're in the top 20 in the FCS Top 25 Poll I don't know why just in early indications this is a rebuild on the offensive side and they do have some defense Personnel but they got a lot of new people trying to do some things for Southern Illinois now obviously we all watched what happened on Saturday with New Mexico against Montana State so the FBS FCS thing isn't always just a true indicator but that's New Mexico and yeah and Montana State Montana State's a lot better than Southern Illinois and BYU is a lot better than New Mexico exactly so you've got a a big separator there and I expect the defense to three points seven points and really show up against Southern Illinois they just from a confidence standpoint you really need to play well on Saturday now look BYU is going to win and they'll win comfortably but you can't have any drama on Saturday hands you can't start the season with any drama even 14 nothing like they had last year did not set a good tone for the year yeah and I don't want to go too too much Kevin Graham but and and I know that there are question marks in regards to this BYU team yeah but I would go and put my life on it that those these dudes are going to show up against Southern Illinois they're going to have an impressive performance against Southern Illinois now that has a lot to do with what I believe of Southern Illinois right now they lost their starting quarterback who set pretty much every University record they lost their top two running backs who were fantastic last year they lost their number one wide receiver their go-to guy and even last year they weren't brilliant offensively no so I I just don't expect a lot against Southern Illinois or from Southern Illinois so BYU is going to show well what I want this is this is my hope is that somewhere mid third quarter we're getting to see a Cody Hagen yeah and a tenua and an e for masiat and we're getting to see an ice MOA at at that uh Sam position who moved from defensive end to that s position then we get to see a c MOA at that at that Mac linebacker that's what I want to see I you need to be able to work your depth really quick against Southern Illinois that's why you schedule these guys Yep they're there for a reason and you know when you're playing Sam Houston and you're just not seeing the scores rack up and it's a two-score game you're not doing that yeah H and Scotty hey remember coming up on Wednesday it'll be all BYU football all the time it's our Cougar preview show from 1 to three brought to you by beehive Mills and uh then on Thursday Frank Dolce will be hanging out with us for the you preview show again brought to you by beehive Mills we're going to talk a lot of beehive Mills this week well that's not hard to talk about exactly there's some good stuff there for sure by the way that bang bang chicken the Bang Bang is my favorite um I did eat the cilantro chicken over the weekend yep yep that was solid and Hercules First Federal Credit Union and beehive Mills all right Hans Bronco menal and his Lobos man you're thinking these guys are playing a really good FCS team a top five FCS team and it's the fourth quarter in Albuquerque they're leading 31 to4 everything's cooking that's going to be a nice win they came in is a heavy Road Underdog to an FCS team that's embarrassing well guess what they got a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter everything's fine right uh no they give up three touchdowns and lose 35 to 31 it hurts so bad it hurts so bad and I I felt really sick for yeah I felt gutted for those guys because those are our boys yeah I mean look Bronco's Bronco and he'll be fine but there's a lot of of dudes getting opportunities on that staff that that we're biased towards we want we want to see do well very biased towards so I sat down with I watched a lot of Saturday football with ro we were watching the Nevada game and we were watching the New Mexico game one was at Nevada One was at New Mexico the crowd support was oh yeah those those two places in particular are terrible which is really sad because I don't know I remember you know a year where I did Utah pre- and postgame shows and we traveled and New Mexico was rocking and I think when you were playing and llacer was there it was rocking it was rocking like the fans are there they've just seen so much bad football for so long that they were just like uh-uh now that's why he needed to start with and that's why you know he talked about I think he knew how good it could be there at New Mexico and he wants to bring that culture back and uh but performances like that isn't going to get it done because I will say this there is not a better place to watch a game in the Mountain West Conference a basketball game than the pit it is loud it is nasty it is just crazy I mean you get Utah State you get San Diego State you get New Mexico those are three places that are just an absolute joy to watch basketball game with their fan support but that does not translate to football at all New Mexico gave up 362 yards rushing 362 yards on the ground Adam Jones had 167 uh Scott Trey M uh Humphrey had 140 and then Tommy melet the quarterback had 30 they also scored three touchdowns on the ground two touchdowns through the air zero interceptions that's Montana state by the way oh yeah Montana State's a really good team yeah and this is how they win yeah they're fundamentally sound they do what they know they're good at and they just went and got 21 points in the fourth quarter and the Mexico couldn't do anything about it we did see that old Touch of Bronco menal defense which is going to be a lot of fun and I think that New Mexico's going to find some wins throughout the season they're going to find some wins they'll be all right they'll man if they'll put together a couple yeah but it was really to get to watch SMU and Nevada because SMU is they're they're the opponent BYU's week number two opponent and Nevada had them dead to rights yeah they did dead to rights and they let him off the hook they did Preston Stone figured it out in the middle of the third and then through the fourth I don't understand why they sacked Kevin Jennings I know because Kevin jinnings came out went four or five for 54 yards he had uh a one rushed that that gave them a first down that kept the drive alive he scored seven points and then they put him down and then Preston Stone came out and stalled out stalled out the head coach stayed with it knew that at some point he was going to deliver and then you saw those two over-the-top passes that were placed in the basket on stride and you're like oh that's that's the Preston Stone pre-injury that's the reason SMU had preseason hype they came in at number 28 on the top 25 Poll they had votes yeah they nearly checked in on the top 25 yeah and uh by the way BYU you better be figuring out what to do with RJ Maryland cuz that dude was just a menace the tight end the tight end who had that one the game go-ahead touchdown he had eight catches 162 yards in that game and they're just dropping dropping bombs to him over the top yep outside of him nobody nobody really nope jumps off the page offensively it it was Preston Stone to Maryland and that was it yep Nevada was able to hold SMU to 100 yards rushing and if BYU can hold SMU to 100 yards rushing my guess is they win I it certainly felt like a more winnable game than it did before then it's a very winnable game I'm glad you brought that up because I actually sent out a tweet it was just like you know me after week zero and it's rcing all the different notes that I had it is strange though Scotty week zero week one you will see performances that don't match up with what you see through the rest of the year yeah so you see curveballs and you know that first half of SMU that might be a big curveball they might be what that quarter and a half team was they might be the team that scored 19 points in about 17 minutes yeah they might be that team and not the team that looked inept in the first quarter they looked terrible in the first quarter until they rotated Kevin Jennings in yep but then that's another problem you got Kevin Jennings is a wrinkle no he's not just a backup quarterback he is a Nate Johnson like wrinkle where he can do a lot of different things for you to engage your offense if your offense is stalled out all right 1:00 straight up right here on 975 the ekl Sports Zone
