Dodgers Pregame: Dave Roberts discusses Freddie Freeman off day, Tyler Glasnow ready for October?

da how's uh Freddy do he's doing fine um I just felt that you know he's got a you know the fingers fractured um the the the middle finger at the end of it um he wants to be in there um understandably so um just kind of thinking through it potentially giving a giving it chance to calm down um you know I think each day can only help uh not having to prepare each day to hit um so I think just where we're at right now I just don't want this thing to linger and so if we can kind of get it to calm down um you know we'll be in a better spot mind is there any conversation with on the for 10 days to sort of no um I don't think so I think that um obviously he could have played today wanted to play um so I just don't think that the I um right now makes a whole lot of sense because it's something where even in 10 days it's not going to the fracture is not going to heal in 10 days is there a chance that he sits out tomorrow or the rest of this series um there's a chance but I still think that having them potentially available Off the Bench um makes sense um we'll see what that looks like each day though and we'll kind of of read and react have you noticed his that bat not being the same because of the middle finger is that part of this equation too um I think it's part of it um I I think that for me I think that it just doesn't look the same but hitting's hard um that could be a separate point and it could not be because of the finger um Freddy could argue that which is completely fine but I still believe that you know giving it some time to kind of calm down and not be in flank um there's only benefit is that what he argued with you guys just like how tough is it to talk him into day you know I I think he understands he he wants to play well um everybody knows you know what he means in the ball Club being able to post being in the lineup all that stuff matters but also um it still matters to feel that you feel good that you um your swing feels good and I just again I just don't think that taking a couple days off whatever the days it it ends up being um is going to be too cost I really know why did you choose G at First and M at third instead of Vice Versa um it it's shortterm um Munch is our third base so um in a vacuum You could argue the other way but um for Max to go over there it hasn't taken ground the balls over there in two years to just say he's played first base doesn't make sense anything you want he's slow moving um he was lined up to play catch today so I don't know if he ended up playing catch today um but given the time that he's been down the potential buildup there's going to be a rehab assignment um he's got to get back on the mound um so I I just don't know what that looks like but not surprising for me that it's taken longer than we initially thought is there still time to get fully built up before October um I I think that the coming days will be telling so I don't think anyone can sit here today and say that because if he played catch today it went great and he does the same thing yes but if he doesn't then it's probably a different answer when that happen do that what has kind of changed just not get better you guys initially um not getting better so he's just still not throwing um free and easy and so um when you're not then you've got to kind of make some concessions and slow down the process so that's kind of what it is how's show show elbow or uh wrist is fine um x-rays the scans were were negative uh he's in there today feels good we dodged the bullet up Austin Mars Austin is uh did took some bats today did some running did some throwing so um obviously that this the toe still broke fractured and so um but our plan is still to activate them on Thursday unless uh otherwise just to go back to Freddy real quick is the painting something you might have to deal with for the rest of the year I don't think so um I I I don't know the exact day I know was that that day game I think it was in St Lou whatever it was um but 4 to 6 weeks is is when it heals so I would assume that you know four to six weeks it should be healed he uh did you see or hear anything from yesterday's session was open um I know that he's going to be on a plane tomorrow um to Round Rock and so talking to Brandon McDaniel it went really well so um it's going to be two innings for that OKC team doing a special feature on Hispanic hair J month you share a clubhouse with three big personalities with David Manny and Pedro what was that like what was that like wow um they're all uh different guys um great great competitors um very um knowledgeable baseball players um certainly proud of their uh Dominican heritage and um friends for life life um obviously all three are Hall of Famers and um I really enjoyed my time with them so I think that yeah it's just it's great it's a great month it's great awareness and obviously the the L players are a big part of Major League Baseball today is there like a fondness memory from that world series one um fondness memory um I don't think I can say it on camera I'm kidding I'm kidding you know what just just all of our you know we we had breakfast together on the road um a lot of laughs in the clubhouse I was the parade you know just a lot of joking and banter and um just a lot of fun and when we were there kids were in the clubhous during the games and so that was a lot of fun for my son too maybe lastly that that run that they produced against the Yankees a historic moment um that something that's up there for you oh absolutely that's that's a highlight for me as a player Dave how would you describe these next seven days the Orioles and also the BS in that for you um I I still think we're in playoff mode um I think Brandon has done a great job over there with those guys it's a fun young group um athletic they can pitch they can they can hit they catch it um I'm excited to see them um it's going to be a playoff environment and certainly going back and playing The dond Backs we've played those guys pretty even all year they're playing the best baseball since the Break um we got four there so it's going to be a you know I feel like we're in a good spot um position playerwise pitching wise um for these next seven days but it's going to be uh it's going to be exciting we got to play good baseball is that part of why you flep the rotation make Play Starting as and Arizon Maybe D what what has Jack brought now on your side you saw from St reports or videos or compet against the do now you get to live you know um Jonathan ryes in our clubhouse says that uh Jack is the most prepared and does the most work of any starting pitcher he's ever seen so this is you know six years of being in the clubhouse so that's pretty talent I think um he brings experience um he's been on top of the world he's been on the outside looking in um he is uh back home for a team he's always loved there's a competitor in there there's a there's a slow quiet burn which I like um he knows what he's doing um he knows he's Tendencies he knows what he can do um he just always seems like he's in control and I think that you know with where starting pitching's been it's nice for me to kind of sit back and kind of be on the same page with him knowing what he's supposed to do how he's supposed to navigate the lineup and feel confident that he can go deep in a game and and put us in a chance to win a ball game so very very happy to have thanks all right thanks guys
