ABOUT SIX HOURS AFTER THAT NEWS CONFERENCE, THE DEPARTMENT SAYS A NEWLY RETIRED OFFICER IS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR HIS ROLE IN A MOTORCYCLE CRASH. GOOD EVENING -- I'M BRANDON MERANO. AND I'M JENNIFER ROSCOE. STATE POLICE SAY THE FORMER SERGEANT FIFTY YEAR OLD MICHAEL EGAN HIT TWO PEOPLE ON A MOTORCYCLE. IT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT ON EAST LAKE SHORE DRIVE NEAR LACONWOOD DRIVE. WCIA3'S THEODORA KOULOUVARIS IS LIVE IN OUR CAPITOL NEWSROOM. THEODORA, WHAT MORE CAN YOU TELL US? STATE POLICE SAY THE TWO PEOPLE ON THE MOTORCYLCE WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND ARE SERIOUSLY HURT. AND THE SPRINGFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY GOT IN CONTACT WITH STATE POLICE FOLLOWING THE CRASH AND THEY'RE CONDUCTING A DUI INVESTIGATION. AFTER AN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING DURING AN INVESTIGATIVE TRAFFIC STOP IN SPRINGFIELD, THE CITY'S MAYOR AND POLICE CHIEF EMPHASIZED TRANSPRACENY WITH THE COMMUNITY I'M NOT INTERESTED IN HIDING BEHIND WORDS ON A PIECE OF PAPER. I WANT YOU TO HEAR FROM ME DIRECTLY AS TO WHAT EXACTLY TRANSPIRED. HOURS LATER, A RETIRED SPRINGFIELD POLICE SEARGANT HIT TWO PEOPLE IN A MORTOCYLE CRASH. STATE POLICE SAYS MICHAEL EGAN DIDN'T YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY AND MADE A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF THE MOTORCYCLE... LEADING TO THE CRASH. THE TWO PEOPLE ON THE BIKE WERE EJECTED AND SERIOUSLY HURT. STATE POLICE SAY HE WAS GIVEN A TICKET. THE SPRINGFIELD DEPARTMENT SAYS THEY CONTACTED STATE POLICE TO CONDUCT THE CRASH AND A D-U-I INVESTIGATION. FROM THERE, STATE POLICE SAYS THEY CONTACTED THE SANGAMON COUNTY STATE'S ATTORNEY'S OFFICE AND ADDITIONAL CHARGES COULD BE FILED PENDING RESULTS FROM A TOXICOLOGY REPORT. SCARLETTE DID COMMENT ON THE MOTORCYLE CRASH IN A STATEMENT SAYING ""BOTH ACTIVE AND RETIRED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS MUST BE HELD TO THE SAME STANDARDS TO MAINTAIN PUBLIC TRUST AND UPHOLD THE INTEGRITY OF THE SPRINGFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT." THE DEPARTMENT SAYS AN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION IS HAPPENING TO MAKE SURE SPRINGFIELD POLICE OFFICERS ON SCENE FOLLOWED ALL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. WCIA REACHED OUT THE MAYOR'S OFFICE. THEY DID'T COMMENT AND INSTEAD POINTED TO THE INFORMATION THE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASED. BUT HERE'S WHAT THE MAYOR SAID THURSDAY ON THE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING. PEOPLE ARE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO MAKE SURE THIS IS HANDLED IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER, THAT EVERYTHING IS BEING ADDRESSED AND THAT THERE ISN'T ANY QUESTIONS OF PEOPLE HIDING BEHIND DESKS OR OUR IVORY TOWER OR WHATEVER YOU CALL IT, THAT WE ARE COMMUNICATING WITH EVERYONE IN THE A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE SANGAMON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS NONE OF THEIR DEPUTIES WERE SENT OUT TO THE CRASH.
