University of Iowa Rush Introduction Video 2024

hi my name is Leah chandley and I'm from debuk Iowa and I'm a freshman here at the University of Iowa I'm majoring in biology and minoring in Spanish and I plan to be on the prepa track I'm super excited to be rushing and I hope to build new relationships along with learning more about the community around me a meaningful experience that I had was when we went on a medical mission trip to Ecuador I was the youngest one there and I was the only one that spoke Spanish so I was able to help my team members around me speak to the patients and to the kids around us so that they can help them more efficiently along with that we only got to spend one day in each Village so we had to make sure we worked effectively and quickly so that we could help as many people as we could along with that in high school I positively in impacted my community in many different ways I was on this silver cord board which you have to have 100 volunteer hours at least to get your silver cord by graduation on the board I would reach out to different organizations and I would see if they had any volunteer opportunities to help us get those volunteer hours in and dive more into the community itself along with that I was involved in the National Honor Society which was another 30 hours of volunteer and finally I was in a yappers youth philanthropy group and we had monthly meetings and a lot of times every month or every few months we would have a volunteer opportunity to connect connect with the community and fundraise money so that at the end of the year at a meeting we would hand out grants and divide the money into different grants to give out to local nonprofit organizations I just want to say thank you for listening and I am super excited to be rushing thank you so much
