and Ken crater for cam vets media we're in Boone Florida Florida Atlantic University visiting the Florida Atlantic Army Roc Department have a chance to talk with one of the senior Cadets and that is May Suns doll and may great to see you uh great to visit your department and I understand you used to live at West Point tell us about that I did yes I was actually a cashier at the PX for a couple years that was kind of by beginning of being introduced to different uniforms West Point all that good stuff but I decided to do something a little bit warmer so I came down to FAU because who doesn't love RTC on the beach we had just we had uh PT this morning on the peach it was wonderful so beautiful well that's terrific now tell us a little bit about the RC program some of your experiences sure yes I came in as an ms3 so my first two years I wasn't here um I went to basic camp for a year to kind of catch up learn some tactics make up some of that stat that other cadetes maybe had a chance to get and this past summer I went to CST it was wonderful I thought that fa prepared me very well for all the events different training I felt like I had many leadership positions I was able to Showcase all the things I've learned this past year and pass on that knowledge pass on that experience to the cadets coming right behind me tell us about CST I know that's a summer training program out of Ford Knox tell us a little bit about what what that entail yes so to start off you get off the plane and right away they split you into your platoon and everyone's a little nervous getting to know each other but after we put on the same uniform and we're that same team things start rolling and um we do everything from Land Navigation to running missions all all day and night we went from doing let's see Marksmanship we had all those really good things and um it just a great experience to see maybe what some of your soldiers have experienced even though we might not use all those Soldier tactics and all those things in our day-to-day it's very important to realize their reality before leading them and maybe a different one very good tell us a little bit about some of uh the routine in Roc I know uh you have classes uh during the week and then you've got field training exercises uh tell us a little bit about that sure I would say r2c takes about 15 to 20 hours of my week so it's kind of like a part-time job job um I find it to be very rewarding let's see Monday Wednesday Friday we have PT from 5:30 to 7:00 and then class we have 2 hours and our labs are about let's see 4:5 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. which at first sounds a little bit daunting but we have so much time to work on that training and be prepared for CST where you have those really long days very good I know obviously up in the Northeast who were from and you you've uh lived uh there's a lot of dealing with the cold in the winter time and doing training a lot of Hills Mounds but down here you got heat and you got uh I guess you got the Everglades to go maybe go training with yes for sure it is way different climate very similar to Fort noxo which is the advantage but it is flat so all of our rcks are just one straight line where at Fort Knox you're just constantly going over Hills and that kind of thing so it's definitely different but it's warm and it's beautiful and it's a great place to live and may uh what what part of the army would you like to go to when you Branch uh after graduate this year yeah so I'll Branch National Guard and actually this next year my unit's letting me bounce around to figure out what I want to do next uh most likely an fa unit or armor very good field artillery uh all combat AR it's great to see see what what would you say the key is that you've learned in RC about leadership it's people that's it it's all about people it's who can I take care of it's who needs me it's how can I take care of myself to take care of other people very good hey always ask what's your academic major I'm a psych major psychology very good and what's been the best part of RC for you the best part of RTC to me is just that sense of community you get you know in college it's very easy to stray down paths that don't lead to anything good RTC offers you a path that's straight narrow sure to success um so always people the Army's people kette may Sons Daw great to meet you uh here at Florida Atlantic University and having a CH chance to visit the Army Roc Department best wishes to you you as well thanks so much our pleases can crater for cam vets media we cover cadet's midship in the military and Veterans proudly since 2008 and we are in poer Ron Florida for the Army Florida Atlantic football game thanks for watching
