Maryland football has its new quarterback

Maryland football entered the 2024 season without tiia tangaloa under center for the first time since 2019 and in the season opener against Yukon on Saturday the future of the tursus quarterback option was on display Billy Edwards NC State transfer MJ Morris and Cameron Edge each took snaps in the victory but it was Edwards who established himself as the starter Edwards Jr started the first three drives of the game as part of the game plan decided by head coach Michael lockley he led the offense two drives resulting in touchdowns including this 18yd pass to Ty Felton on the opening drive he ended his day with a second passing touchdown in 350 allpurpose yards as Fon broke free for a big 75 yard score to close the third quarter on Edwards Jr's final play from scrimmage I thought Billy did a really good job of controlling the offensive system uh over 300 yards and to me did a great job Distributing the ball getting it to the play makers and and I think today we're able to show that again we've found and been able to develop some some guys that that have the ability to make big plays for us on offense Morris struggled in limited action in his tps's debut he completed just three passes for 13 yards and only picked up 18 on the ground he missed the fourth quarter after exiting the game when he was hit late while sliding Edge played for the majority of the fourth quarter after Morris's departure he connected with freshman running back Josiah mclen for a 24 yd score and count running for 57 yard through the air as Maryland begins conference play next week against Michigan State the turps have their successor for Tong of aloa it's up to Edwards Jr to help Maryland take the next step after an 8- win season my mindset is just one week at a time you know this was it was rewarding um but at the same time you know I feel like I've prepared for this I've trained the right way you know we get after in practice as an offense as a team as a whole um so there was you know some moments where it definitely felt good but at the same time you know people in the building probably get sick of me here and saying it it's you know one to play at a time one drive at a time one week at a time for Terin Sports Central I'm Matthew noose
