had a six-point lead in that game the lead actually got to nine in the second half before Baylor roared back and won it by nine at Foster Pavilion but BYU trailing by nine in this one at 22 to 13 and that was 13 points through 10 minutes BYU scored 29 in the final 10 minutes of the first half the three-point shot began to drop at a really prolific rate and BYU still being outshot by Baylor but but uh man doing a lot to get back in and take a lead in this game great final 10 minutes for the Cs yeah that three-point shot really makes a difference in how you play on both ends of the floor really gets you excited gets the fans excited I I don't know what BYU was like 1 for 11 or 12 and and then they finished so strong uh from the three-point line towards the end of the half and played pretty good defense as well uh and uh you know just a nice overall effort I thought they really were getting after it and even when things weren't going their way from the point line the effort was there getting offensive rebounds multiple opportunities I I liked what I saw a lot from the first half for BYU BYU 42 Baylor 37 by's on Pace for 42 three-point attempts by the way uh BYU 46% on 16 of 35 from the field 8 for 21 from Deep 38% that'll do like those numbers will win you games if they are over both halves by made both of its free throws in the first half two for two by board Baylor 19-13 the Bears shoot 54% field 40% Arc and 78% free throw line those are winning numbers too Baylor had five assists to go with five turnovers BYU 10 assists to only three turnovers big number for by offensive rebounds also big for BYU 9 to3 on the offensive glass but this is the key stat of half number one 13 nothing in Second Chance points in BYU's favor the cougs were minus one on the bench points 9 to8 paint points were even at 16 a piece fast break to Baylor 4-3 BYU LED for just 3 minutes and 15 seconds of the first half but they have the lead at the half 42- 37 by led by Ali khalipa 11 points that was his first double digits scoring game in the first half as a BYU cougar yeah he was amazing rebounded decently played good defense but then that three-pointer was going for him and that just opens it up for everybody else and the four assists is what we expect from him Khalifa 11 seven for n six for Johnson fives for Hall and Waterman three for tayori three for Robinson two for Saunders getting it to 42 Baylor gets their 37 led by Jaylen Bridges as 10 points in half number one 4237 cougs over the Bears now back to BYU Radio and more of couger halftime live with your host Jason shefer CH it is back to you thank you very much BYU by five at the break and there are two stats that to me are the reason why BYU has the lead at the half and it boils down to offensive rebounds and second chance points BYU nine to3 advantage in that category it kept the ball alive on a couple of offensive possessions after missed shots BYU was able to capitalize with 13 Second Chance points Baylor with zero and very reminisent of what we saw in Stillwater on Saturday this this game eerily started the same way where Baylor just could not miss and BYU was struggling to hit shots even some open looks but unlike the game in Stillwater BYU just stuck with it they kept grinding out they started going with the hustle plays and I think that's where it comes in these offensive rebounds keeping the ball alive giving this the team second and sometimes three chances at an offensive possession and then eventually the three-point shot started to fall and then that opened things up a little bit then you have some of the back door cuts that you can find and BYU is able to drive to the basket but just kind of sort of staying the course because with 1027 left in the half Baylor was up nine from that point on BYU I wouldn't say they took control of the game but they certainly kicked it into a a higher gear and obviously then would ultimately lead by seven now five at the half but just a a perfect example of just kind of sticking with it and sticking with the game plan making sure that you're doing all the things you need to do from the hustle play area and then the the shots start to fall and that was a really fun first 20 minutes of basketball can't wait for the second half all right let's update you on some other action in the Big 12 uh we will start with the game that's going on right now also at halftime in lck number 23 Texas Tech and TCU all tied at 38 a piece one final from earlier tonight West Virginia gets the win at home in Morgantown over UCF by 10 7767 uh Mountaineers over the night top 25 action number one Yukon in some trouble and I mean big trouble number 15 kraton has a 6143 lead over the huskys with 1207 left in the second half uh other games tonight uh number 18 St Mary's will be hosting San Francisco that game tips in about 50 minutes earlier tonight missou had the had an early lead made things a little difficult on Tennessee but to be off the air in the halftime about about the nature of BYU's lead and how by's maybe seen some large leads go by the wayside this year that maybe something like this a more a closer game might benefit BYU in in in how hard they had to play to come back in the first half maybe keep that same kind of comeback mentality in mind yeah I like the lead but it may be better to be you have it be a single digit lead where they keep attacking keep being aggressive and not having to kind of hold on to things but rather be the aggressor and I think that may play well for them here in the second half all right second half is about to get underway and Baylor will have the ball jum Baylor will they won the tip but then there was a uh there was one situation in the first half that went to BYU on a I think on an arrow okay so Baylor will have the ball to open the second half and they'll go right to left as we see it and you hear it be you answering left to right D Hall back in the game missed the final four and a half of the first half of foul trouble rayj Dennis will take hall Hall will catch up the Dennis the pass goes left corner for three and that's missed but the rebound Spencer healthwise with this group they've got 10 healthy players right now and and I cannot tell you what a what a win tonight would do to BYU's stretch run Outlook as they angle toward Kansas City and then the NCAA tournament again is dipping a little bit last couple weeks got some wins but you know had some red flags there but uh tonight's a a red letter effort so far for BYU that's the number one thing is the effort's been terrific and now the shots are starting to go especially from the three-point line that's a good combination Yeah by just playing a really good game against a very very good
