one year ago today Donald Trump became the president-elect of the United States of America he is the first Penn graduates become president unless you count William Henry Harrison who withdrew from Penn's medical school when he was 18 and died of pneumonia 31 days into office President Trump has repeatedly cited Penn to prove his intelligence but the university itself hasn't responded kindly to his policies you know people don't understand I went to an Ivy League college I'm an Ivy League I went to an Ivy League college I went to the Wharton School of Finance which is the best business school in the world I'm like a smart person I went to an Ivy League school I'm very highly educated I know words I had the best words before he ran for office the university had a fairly positive relationship with him and declined to comment on him during the election campaign despite the students is generally negative reactions to his promises that attitude changed after his inauguration as on Monday January 30th 2017 during a public protest on campus Amy Gutmann herself spoke out against resonate immigration policies if left unchallenged this order will weak the promise of educational opportunity intellectual discovery and global engagement that so distinguishes American University On February 13 2017 Penn along with other research universities across the country filed an amicus brief opposing those very immigration policies during talks of Trump's transgender military Ben 10 law faculty released statements online condemning it most recently Penn publicly denounced Trump's decision to end daca in September it will be interesting to see how Penn reacts to Trump's new policies in the future and how things will progress from here
