this is a civil defense tropical storm honet update for Saturday August 24th at 12:00 noon the Central Pacific Hurricane Center reports as of 11:00 a.m. tropical storm hona is 185 Mi southeast of Hilo with sustained winds of 65 M an hour moving West at 15 M an hour east facing shores of Hawaii island are reporting High Surf I conditions high winds and flooding rains are forecast to start impacting Hawaii Island as early as this afternoon and into this evening the National Weather Service flood watch for Hawaii island and the High Surf warning for east facing Shores remains in effect the National Weather Service red flag fire weather warning for areas of West Hawaii has been cancelled due to the impact to Hawaii Island from tropical storm hor why peel Valley Access Road is closed all County Beach parks are closed until further notice helon bus service has cancelled routes through this weekend for a list of canceled bus routes please visit the county of Hawaii civil defense website public shelters are now open the following shelters are opened as of 12:00 noon today in CAU CAU herky's gym and naalu Elementary School cafeteria in Puna Paha high school gym K High School library and G building and and Mountain View Elementary School cafeteria in Hilo Waka high school gym in Hamakua Honokaa high school and Intermediate School cafeteria if you plan to ride out the Storm at a public shelter please prepare all personal items to stay overnight and complete getting to a designated shelter no later than 6:00 p.m. if you have any questions regarding public shelters please call civil defense at 808 935 0031 thank you for listening this is your Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency
