debut short film The Ninth Circle 2009 the concept of the planned film focused heavily on an angel dressed heroin and ultimately fell apart following its predecessor's release Leon wanted to bring the heroin back she would evolve into Sienna someone Leon describes as the heart and soul of terrifier to Leon spent 3 months writing a character-driven screenplay following criticism of the first films perceived lack of narrative funding was exacting as the script was more ambitious than the first film and required a bigger budget Leon secured finances from private investors prior to filming and he launched an Indiegogo campaign with a $50,000 goal to produce a practical effects driven scene the campaign was a massive success reaching over 430 of the initial goal with a donation total of 20 $50,000 it is one of the numerous films impacted by the worldwide covid-19 pandemic with principal photography coming to a halt mid 2020 due to the pandemic lockdowns it had its World premiere at the Fright fist on August 29th 2022 and was theatrically released in the United States on October 6th 2022 it received positive reviews from critics with particular praise for lava and Thornton's performances though the film's runtime received some criticism many critics considered the film to be an improvement over its predecessor a sequel terrifier 3 will be released in 2024 in terrifier 2 a slasher named art the clown wears a jester costume with palm palm buttons and a white baled harleyquin head cover and he's got lorus black teeth frozen into a Rus grin it's literally a dirty mouth a hooked nose that looks like something out of an anti-semitic caricature from the 30s a small Top Hat cocked to the side of his head and a General attitude of it only hurts you when I laugh blood soaked dementia that laugh of Arts is a real keeper because it's silent like Marcel maros he's so brimming with stylized Delight as he chops and saws and skins and dismembers people and throws acid into their faces that he's like Freddy kruer channeling liberas channeling Joseph menel when he's soaked in Gore which is much of the time the grin shines all the brighter art the clown who is played by David Howard Thornton with the gleeful air and Rapid hum omdal movements of a true Maniac totes around his arsenal of toolbox blades a random heap of Rusty knives pliers hacksaws and so on in a black garbage bag and we see him do things like Chase a victim into an office where he hammers him in the face bringing his weapon down with a force of the Damned then hammers him some more then plucks out his eyeball and plays with it then PR his face apart all before skullking off into an Alleyway and that's just the opening scene it's the movie's way of saying to its a audience Hi how are you written and directed by Damen Leon who also designed the special makeup effects terrifier 2 is The squalled Blood Feast as readymade midnight event cult film the movie arrives six years after Leon's first terrifier 2016 which made art into an underground mascot of horror so the anticipation has been building unlike the first one terf 2 is a top 10 movie with a gross of $7.6 million to date not shabby considering that the movie was made for a reported $250,000 but Leon clearly knew what he had the film's running time is at once momentous and in a weird way one of the most horrific things about it set mostly on Halloween night terrifier 2 is a distended holiday horror film that Lopes along for 2 hours and 18 minutes yet that more or less matches up with Arc the Clown's philosophy of Mayhem more is more the movie which unfolds in a kind of slasher Dreamscape is a slaughterhouse burlesque that owes more than a little to the gor Gore Ingenuity of hersel Gordon Lewis who invented the splatter film 60 years ago with Blood Feast and 2,000 Maniacs terrifier 2 is a horror comedy but its only real joke is how total the Carnage is none of the recent Halloween films made you feel you were truly in the scuzzy slasher hday of the late 70s and early 80s but terrifier 2 does and that's part of its appeal the movie is slovenly paced with with expository bovie dialogue overstated no budget acting a percolating one-man band synth pop score that's pure early 80s an old pre- cable TV set that keeps getting snow on it plus a teenage heroine named Sienna who looks like a scream Queen from back in the day though the actress Lauren lava is actually quite good at investing the part with a knowing lack of irony what you wouldn't have gotten in the 80s is a slasher who's an insane clown posy of one art the clown is silent but he's a macabra prank angster who could almost be pennywise's more fantastically gruesome disciple terrifier 2 is essentially a series of grotesque homicidal set pieces stitched together into a threadbear narrative of midnight funh house cliches that synth pop score gets a workout during the Montage when Sienna transforms herself into a winged Valkyrie for Halloween but the reason most of the movie could almost be a series of slasher Tik talk videos is that it's not really staged to scare you the sequences of art the clowns slicing gouging peeling dismembering and torturing at one point he literally rubs salt in his victim's wounds are supposed to make the audience feel like they're in the serial killer driver's seat a very disturbed place to be I won't mince words the first terrifier is what I'd call crap that's not always a bad thing I like a lot of crap but not this while I freely admit the film is loaded with some incredibly practical Gore the movie itself is little more than a plotless storyless valueless excuse to showcase that Gore and not much else so when I heard a terrifier 2 in was on the way I was wary but Color Me surprised terrifier 2 in is a huge Improvement in nearly every way sure it's still loaded with weaknesses some truly bad performances keep getting in the way like luggage we keep tripping over on our way to something better but with this sequel writer director Damen Leon has taken The Saga of art the clown to a whole new level what a sentence that is the secret to the success of terrifier 2 in is that Leon has gone bigger in every way clocking in at a whopping 138 minutes terrifier 2 Ines has the filmmaker expanding on the mythology of it all and going for broke one of my biggest wishes when I sit down to watch a new movie is that the filmmaker will not hold back that whoever is running this show goes big and bold and swings for the fences and that's exactly what terrifier 2 in does the best comparison I can think of is Rob Zombies to Halloween films I found zombie first Halloween to be odious junk a pale imitation of John Carpenter's classic film loaded with some of the worst dialogue ever captured on screen then zombie came back with Halloween Roman 2 and surprised me sure Halloween Roman 2 still has problems Rob Zombie please hire someone else to write your movies but it was also bigger and weirder and felt more like its own unique experience terrifier 2 in is the Halloween Roman 2 of this series and it's turned me from an art the clown agnostic into a bit of a fan the first terrifier introduced us to Art the clown the very committed David Howard Thornton a malevolent seemingly Immortal serial killer clown who shows up on Halloween to torture and obliterate anyone who gets in his way and that was it really not much more to say about the film art met his apparent demise in the first film but you can't keep a good killer clown down sure enough he rises from the dead and sets out on another Killing Spree just in time for Halloween terrifier two clocks in at almost 2 and 1/2 hours so they have to fit some plot in there to justify the extended length the problem is the plot makes no sense there are lots of things that could be interesting that just go nowhere there are hints that Sienna and Jonathan's dad is way more messed up than merely depressed but other than a line of dialogue alluding to him having a tumor that made him act abusively we learn nothing then there are hints that Sienna and Jonathan have psychiatric disorders perhaps pass down from Dad and most obvious because they are able to see the little girl clown that ended up going nowhere finally there was the weird Supernatural ending which I won't spoil in case you actually care about the story but it made no sense not in this world and not shoehorned in at the end of this otherwise not Supernatural story but I will focus now on the part of the movie that I did like the deaths because really if you liked the first terrifier that is what you are coming to to terrifier her to for the deaths are particularly great brutal violent and really really bloody just gross the only thing keeping them from being nauseating is the fact that it is pretty obviously fake it's still really good prosthetic work and I give the team props for doing most if not all of the FX practically it felt like an old HG Lewis film turned up to 11 I mean art literally reaches into most of his victims and pulls out their organs and splashes around in their blood he really enjoys playing in his victim's bodies if grind houses were still a thing this would be a headliner my favorite murder was probably Ally that's not a spoiler it's a terrifier movie everyone dies so watch for that one terrifier 2 is best when it does what we are here to see big bloody murder but the attempt at a story is just atrocious terrifier to tries to be bigger and better than its predecessor when really we just wanted more of the same this time art is after even more fresh meat including teenager Sienna Lauren lavra and her annoying and troubled little brother Jonathan Elliot Fulham but Sienna is no normal potential victim no she seems to have some sort of psychic connection to Art and it's all vaguely connected to her dead father Sienna has an almost comically long nightmare in which she's on the set of a kids TV show called The Clown Cafe where you guessed it art shows up and proceeds to murder everyone via a machine gun the imagery here is frequently disturbing including a moment when a woman singing the clown Cafe theme song is set Ablaze and keeps on strumming her guitar as she Burns and burns and burns while the overall plotting and storytelling remains simplistic Leon has a much firmer grasp on tone and atmosphere here Conjuring up gruesome evocative imagery that has genuine power in a deranged sort of way I appreciated the way the filmmaker attempts to build up the mythology of it all to give Art a worthy adversary instead of just another scaming girl destined to be hacked and slashed I was curious to see terrifier too because in the last decade or so there has been at times a lurid creative spark to the genre we might call Extreme horror I'm thinking of films that even a lot of horror Buffs draw the line at seeing like Tom 6's outlandishly revolting Euro disgusto Carnival the human centipede and its even more psychotic shock theater sequel The Human Centipede to full sequence as well as a movie that's actually so shivery and real it got unfairly maligned by the brick bats that critics tend to use in attacking these films namely Eli roths hostile part Roman two the infinitely creeper and more accomplished sequel to hostile it was a movie that posed a question worthy of the dark web era if there were an underground service that charged an exorbitant sum for the opportunity to torture and kill someone are there wealthy sickos out there who would take advantage of it the film forced you to consider the idea that yes there might be and in that it Illustrated a key way that extreme horror movies work they really meditations on the audience on us the people who will pay money to see this stuff when you sit in a theater and watch terrifier too the fact that you're getting onto a wavelength of debased Cruelty along with the viewers around you should make you think why am I even watching this a lot of fans would answer because it's fun it gives me a kick but what's the kick it may be a kind of distilled expression of the end of empathy when Mar and crane got slaughtered in the shower in Psycho we felt for her in a way we were her but terrifier too encourages us to view its victims the way the Nazis viewed theirs as gruesome fodder for an experiment in pain but yes once again the gore is massive Gore hounds will likely have their jaws on the floor at the amount of blood spillage here all of it created practically art the clown doesn't just kill people he destroys them smashing bones ripping off faces hurling acid and more it's incredibly gruesome while also being almost comical and how over the top at all is there are countless scenes where characters simply stand there mouths a gape watching as art performs some wet and gristly task and then there are victims are who are so cataclysmically destroyed physically and yet keep living and screaming just so art can continue torturing them you might argue there's no redeeming value to any of this and I won't fight you on that and yet the everything in the kitchen SN Vibe of the whole thing renders terrifying Fire 2 in and above average slasher Extravaganza watching this gives one the sense that they're watching something new and that's a feeling you just can't beat whatever bloody Adventure art the clown gets up to next I'll be sure to watch terrifier 2 is an interesting film in that it tries to build off what made the first film so popular the extreme amounts of Gore and tries to add story to it the gore succeeds as it did the first time around the story not so much picking up immediately we left off after the first terrifier art the clown David Howard Thornton is busy killing the coroner in the morg from there he goes to a laundromat strips butt ass naked and washes his clown costume while waiting he sees a little girl dressed remarkably similar to himself and the two start laying together when another Patron who had dozed off wakes up he sees in naked art playing patake by himself suggesting that this little girl is all in Art's mind the laundromat Patron gets killed before art leaves a year later art the clown has disappeared already little more than a local boogan Sienna Lauren lava and younger brother Jonathan Elliot Fulham are discussing their Halloween plans with their mother and Jonathan wants to go dressed as art the clown both are horrified at the thought but Mom passes it off as Jonathan just going through a weird phase their father killed himself an indeterminate amount of time ago and they are still dealing with the loss at this point there are lots of story points point that are mixed into the gory murder sequences and quite frankly I have no idea what is going on Sienna has an extended nightmare about Arc the clown that ends with him lighting a group of people on fire in her room a set of feather Wings she made for her Halloween costume catches on fire nearly setting the entire house Ablaze a sword that her father gave her was Untouched by the fire later on the sword will become important for an incomprehensible Supernatural story point the next day at school Jonathan is out on a hall pass when he sees artart and the little girl playing with a dead possum in the middle of the school hallway they throw it at him Jonathan runs and he gets suspended for vandalizing the school later on he finds a news clipping in his father's Sketchbook about a young girl who was mutilated outside a carnival the carnival which later on Sienna is lured to this was the young girl playing with art as far as I can tell art Sienna and Jonathan can all see and interact with this little girl but they are the the only ones besides a truly incoherent post-credit scene there is nothing else I can withdraw from the story of this film to share without spoiling the plot I use these terms Loosely because really director Damen Leon should have just stuck with what works the first terrifier was under 90 minutes and had no plot it was basically just art the clown terrorizing whoever he came across on Halloween night terrifier 2 is a 2022 American Supernatural slasher film 206 67 written directed edited and produced by Damen Leon a sequel to terrifier 2016 it is the second film centered solely Wings she made for her Halloween costume catches on fire nearly setting the entire house of blaze a sword that her father gave her was Untouched by the fire later on the sword will become important for an incomprehensible Supernatural story point the next day at school Jonathan is out on a hall pass when he sees art and the little girl playing with a dead possum in the middle of the school hallway they throw it at him Jonathan runs and he gets suspended for vandalizing the school later on he finds a news clipping in his father's Sketchbook about a young girl who was mutilated outside a carnival the carnival which later on Sienna is lured to this was the young girl playing with art as far as I can tell art Sienna and Jonathan can all see and interact with this little girl but they are the only ones besides a truly incoherent post-credit scene there is nothing else I can withdraw from the story of this film to share without spoiling the plot I use these terms Loosely because really director Damen Leon should have just stuck with what works the first terrifier was under 90 minutes and had no plot it was basically just art the clown terrorizing whoever he came across on Halloween night terrifier 2 is a 2022 American Supernatural slasher film 267 written directed edited and produced by Damen Leon a sequel to terrifier 2016 it is the second film centered solely around art the clown and third featurelength film to feature the character it is the second installment in the terrifier franchise it includes the return of David Howard Thornton and Samantha scati who portrayed art the clown and Victoria Hayes respectively in the first film and stars Lauren lavra Elliot Fulham Sarah Voit Kylie Heyman and Casey hartnet the plot follows Arts resurrection and pursuit Sienna and their mother Barbara his father's Sketchbook filled with newspaper clippings revealing that the little pale girl Bears resemblance to Arts first victim Emily crane the daughter of a circus performer he believes their father father knew how to stop art after a fight Barbara hits Jonathan and he runs away art kills Barbara kidnaps Jonathan and steals Sienna's sword at a Halloween party Brook spikes Sienna's drink with MDMA in an attempt to calm her but she has a panic attack Brooke and her boyfriend Jeff drive her home but the little pale girl lures Sienna to the terrifier haunted attraction at a now defunct Carnival the same location where art killed her years before art then castrates and kills Jeff and kills Brooke with a homemade Club fitted with various stabbing implements Sienna is knocked unconscious by Art she awakens to find him using a scalpel on her brother and begins attacking him with his own weapons though art is killed several times by the siblings he continuously manages to resurrect he kills Sienna with her father's sword and throws her into a water torture cell as he attempts to eat Jonathan she is mysteriously resurrected By The Sword she decapitates art the little pale girl takes his head and leaves without hurting Sienna and Jonathan in a mid-credit scene an institutionalized Victoria writes Vicky plus art and obscenity is on the wall with her blood she gives birth to Arts living head leaving a horrified nurse screaming the film originated from a feature film concept Leon began developing shortly after filming his directorial debut short film the 9th Circle 2009 the concept of the planned film focused heavily on an angel dressed heroine and ultimately fell apart following its predecessor's release Leon wanted to bring the heroine back she would evolve into Sienna someone Leon describes as the heart and soul of terrifier too Leon spent three months writing a character-driven screenplay following criticism of the first films perceived lack of narrative funding was exacting as the script was more ambitious than the first film and required a bigger budget Leon secured finances from private investors prior to filming and he launched an India goo campaign with a $50,000 goal to produce a practical effects driven scene the campaign was a massive success reaching over 430 of the initial goal with a donation total of $250,000 it is one of the numerous films impacted by the worldwide co9 pandemic with principal photography coming to a halt mid 2020 due to the pandemic lockdowns it had its World premiere at the Fright fist on August 29th 2022 and was theatrically released in the United States on October 6th 2022 it received positive reviews from critics with particular praise for lava and Thornton's performances though the film's runtime received some criticism many critics considered the film to be an improvement over its predecessor a sequel terrifier 3 will be released in 2024 in terrifier 2 a slasher named art the clown wears a jester costume with palm palm buttons and a white baled harleyquinn head cover and he's got Lor black teeth frozen into a Rus grin it's literally a dirty mouth a hooked nose that looks like something out of an anti-semitic caricature from the 30s a small Top Hat cocked to the side of his head and a general attitude of it only hurts you when I laugh blood soaked dementia that laugh of Arts is a real keeper because it's silent like Marcel maros he's so brimming with stylized Delight as he chops and Saws and skins and dismembers people and throws acid into their faces that he's like Freddy Krueger channeling liberat channeling Joseph menel when he soaked in Gore which is much of the time the grin shines all the brighter art the clown who is played by David Howard Thornton with the gleeful air and Rapid homicidal movements of a true Maniac totes around his arsenal of toolbox blades a random heap of Rusty knives pliers hacksaws and so on in a black garbage bag and we see him do things like Chase a victim into an office where he hammers him in the face bringing his weapon down with a force of the Damned then hammers him some more then plucks out his eyeball and plays with it then PR his face apart all before skullking off into an Alleyway and that's just the opening scene it's the movie's way of saying to its audience Hi how are you written and directed by Damien Leon who also designed the special makeup effects terrifier 2 is The squalet Blood Feast as ready-made midnight event cult film the movie arrives 6 years after Leon's first terrifier 2016 which made art into an underground mascot of horror so the anticipation has been building unlike the first one terrifier 2 is a top 10 movie with a gross of $7.6 million to date not shabby considering that the movie was made for a reported $250,000 but Leon clearly knew what he had the film's running time is at once momentous and in a weird way one of the most horrific things about it set mostly on Halloween night terrifier 2 is a distended holiday horror film that that Lopes along for 2 hours and 18 minutes yet that more or less matches up with Arc the Clown's philosophy of Mayhem more is more the movie which unfolds in a kind of slasher Dreamscape is a slaughterhouse burlesque that owes more than a little to the gor Gore Ingenuity of hersel Gordon Lewis who invented the splatter film 60 years ago with Blood Feast and 2,000 Maniacs terrifier 2 is a horror comedy but its only real joke is how total the Carnage is none of the recent Halloween films made you feel you were truly in the scuzzy slasher Heyday of the late 70s and early 80s but terrifier 2 does and that's part of its appeal the movie is slovenly paced with expository B movie dialogue overstated no budget acting a percolating one-man band synth pop score that's pure early 80s an old pre cable TV set that keeps getting snow on it plus a teenage heroin named Sienna who looks like a scream Queen from back in the day though the actress Lauren lav is actually quite good at investing the part with a knowing lack of irony what you wouldn't have gotten in the 80s is a slasher who's an insane clown posy of one art the clown is silent but he's a macabra prankster who could almost be pennywise's more fantastically gruesome disciple terrifier 2 is essentially a series of grotesque homicidal set pieces stitched together into a threadbear narrative of midnight funh housee cliches that synth pops score gets a workout during the Montage when Sienna transforms her s into a winged Valkyrie for Halloween but the reason most of the movie could almost be a series of slasher Tik Tock videos is that it's not really staged to scare you the sequences of art the clowns slicing gouging peeling dismembering and torturing at one point he literally rubs salt in his victim's wounds are supposed to make the audience feel like they're in the serial killer driver's seat a very disturbed place to be I won't mince words the first terrifier is what I'd call crap that's not always a bad thing I like a lot of crap but not this while I freely admit the film is loaded with some incredibly practical Gore the movie itself is little more than a plotless storyless valueless excuse to Showcase that Gore and not much else so when I heard a terrifier 2 Ines was on the way I was wary but Color Me surprised terrifier 2 in is a huge Improvement in nearly every way sure it's still loaded with weaknesses some truly bad performances keep getting in the way like luggage we keep tripping over on our way to something better but with this sequel writer director Damen Leon has taken The Saga of art the clown to a whole new level what a sentence that is the secret to the success of terrifier 2 in is that Leon has gone bigger in every way clocking in at a whopping 138 minutes terrifier 2 in has the filmmaker expanding on the mythology of it all and going for broke one of my biggest wishes when I sit down to watch a new movie is that the filmmaker will not hold back back that whoever is running this show goes big and bold and swings for the fences and that's exactly what terrifier 2 in does the best comparison I can think of is Rob Zombies to Halloween films I found zombie first Halloween to be odious junk a pale imitation of John Carpenter's classic film loaded with some of the worst dialogue ever captured on screen then zombie came back with Halloween Roman 2 and surprised me sure Halloween Roman 2 still has problems Rob Zombie please hire someone else to write your movies but it was also bigger and weirder and felt more like its own unique experience terrifier 2 in is the Halloween Roman 2 of this series and it's turned me from an art the clown agnostic into a bit of a fan the first terrifier introduced us to Art the clown the very committed David Howard Thornton a malevolent seemingly Immortal serial killer clown who shows up on Halloween to torture and obliterate anyone who gets in his way and that was it really not much more to say about the film art met his apparent demise in the first film but you can't keep a good killer clown down sure enough he rises from the dead and sets out on another Killing Spree just in time for Halloween terrifier two clocks in at almost 2 and 1/2 hours so they have to fit some plot in there to justify the extended length the problem is the plot makes no sense there are lots of things that could be interesting that just go nowhere there are hints that Sienna and and Jonathan's dad is way more messed up than merely depressed but other than a line of dialogue alluding to him having a tumor that made him act abusively we learn nothing then there are hints that Sienna and Jonathan have psychiatric disorders perhaps passed down from Dad and most obvious because they are able to see the little girl clown that ended up going nowhere finally there was the weird Supernatural ending which I won't spoil in case you actually care about the story but it made no sense not in this world and not shoehorned in at the end of this otherwise not Supernatural story but I will focus now on the part of the movie that I did like the deaths because really if you liked the first terrifier that is what you are coming to terrifier to for the deaths are particularly great brutal violent and really really bloody just gross the only thing keeping them from being nauseating is the fact that it is pretty obviously fake it's still really good prosthetic work and I give the team props for doing most if not of the FX practically it felt like an old HG Lewis film turned up to 11 I mean art literally reaches into most of his victims and pulls out their organs and splashes around in their blood he really enjoys playing in his victim's bodies if grind houses were still a thing this would be a headliner my favorite murder was probably Ally that's not a spoiler it's a terrifier movie everyone dies so watch for that one terrifier too is best when it does what we are here to see big bloody murder but the attempt at a story is just atrocious terrifier 2 tries to be bigger and better than its predecessor when really we just wanted more of the same this time art is after even more fresh meat including teenager Sienna Lauren laa and her annoying and troubled little brother Jonathan Elliot Fulham but Sienna is no normal potential victim no she seems to have some sort of psychic connection to Art and it's all vaguely connected to her dead father Sienna has an almost comically long nightmare in which she's on the set of a kids TV show called The Clown Cafe where you guessed it art shows up and proceeds to murder everyone via a machine gun the imagery here is frequently disturbing including a moment when a woman singing the clown Cafe theme song is set Ablaze and keeps on strumming her guitar as she Burns and burns and burns while the overall plotting and storytelling remains simplistic Leon has a much firmer grasp on tone and atmosphere here Conjuring up GR a vocative imagery that has genuine power in a deranged sort of way I appreciated the way the filmmaker attempts to build up the mythology of it all to give Art a worthy adversary instead of just another screaming girl destined to be hacked and slashed I was curious to see terrifier too because in the last decade or so there has been at times a lurid creative spark to the genre we might call Extreme horror I'm thinking of films that even a lot of horror Buffs draw the line at seeing like Tom 6's outlandishly revolting Euro disgusto Carnival the human centipede and its even more psychotic shock theater sequel The Human Centipede to full sequence as well as a movie that's actually so shivery and real it got unfairly maligned by the brick bats that critics tend to use in attacking these films namely Eli roths hostile part Roman 2 the infinitely creeper and more accomplished sequel to hostile it was a movie that posed a question worthy of the dark web era if there were an underground service that char charged an exorbitant sum for the opportunity to torture and kill someone are there wealthy sickos out there who would take advantage of it the film forced you to consider the idea that yes there might be and in that it Illustrated a key way that extreme horror movies work there really meditations on the audience on us the people who will pay money to see this stuff when you sit in a theater and watch terrifier too the fact that you're getting onto a wavelength of debased Cruelty along with the viewers around you should make you think why am I even watching this a lot of fans would answer because it's fun it gives me a kick but what's the kick it may be a kind of distilled expression of the end of empathy when Mary and crane got slaughtered in the shower in Psycho we felt for her in a way we were her but terrifier too encourages us to view its victims the way the Nazis viewed theirs as gruesome fodder for an experiment in pain but yes once again the gore is massive Gore hounds will likely have their jaws on the floor at the amount of blood spillage here all of it created practically art the clown doesn't just kill people he destroys them smashing bones ripping off faces hurling acid and more it's incredibly gruesome while also being almost comical in how over the top at all is there are countless scenes where characters simply stand there mouths a gape watching as art performs some wet and gristly task and then there are victims are who are so cataclysmically destroyed physically and yet keep living and screaming just so art can continue torturing them you might argue there's no redeeming value to any of this and I won't fight you on that and yet the everything in the kitchen SN Vibe of the whole thing renders terrifier 2 in and above average slasher Extravaganza watching this gives one the sense that they're watching something new and that's a feeling you just can't beat whatever bloody Adventure art the clown gets up to next I'll be sure to watch terrifier 2 is an interesting film in that it tries to build off what made the first film so popular the extreme amounts of Gore and tries to add story to it the gore succeeds as it did the first time around the story not so much picking up immediately where we left off after the first terrifier art the clown David Howard Thornton is busy killing the coroner in the morg from there he goes to a laundromat strips butt ass naked and washes his clown costume while waiting he sees a little girl dressed remarkably similar to himself and the two start laying together when another Patron who had dozed off wakes up he sees a naked art playing patake by himself suggesting that this little girl is all in Art's mind the laundromat Patron gets killed before art leaves a year later art the clown has disappeared already little more than a local boogan Sienna Lauren lav and younger brother Jonathan Elliot Fulham are discussing their Halloween plans with their mother and Jonathan wants to go dressed as art the clown both are horrified at the thought but mom passes it off as Jonathan just going through a weird phase their father killed himself an indeterminate amount of time ago and they are still dealing with the loss at this point there are lots of story points that are mixed into the gory murder sequences and quite frankly I have no idea what is going on Sienna has an extended nightmare about Ark the clown that ends with him lighting a group of people on fire in her room a set of feather Wings she made for her Halloween costume catches on fire nearly setting the entire House of blaze a sword that her father gave her was Untouched by the fire later on the sword will become important amounts of Gore and tries to add story to it the gore succeeds as it did the first time around the story not so much picking up immediately where we left off after the first terrifier art the clown David Howard Thornton is busy killing the coroner in the morg from there he goes to a laundromat strips butt ass naked and washes his clown costume while waiting he sees a little girl dressed remarkably similar to himself and the two start laying together when another Patron who had dozed off wakes up he sees a naked art playing patake by himself suggesting that this little girl is all in art mind the lrat patron gets killed before art leaves a year later art the clown has disappeared already little more than a local boogan Sienna Lauren lav and younger brother Jonathan Elliot Fulham are discussing their Halloween plans with their mother and Jonathan wants to go dressed as art the clown both are horrified at the thought but Mom passes it off as Jonathan just going through a weird phase their father killed himself an indeterminate amount of time ago and they are still dealing with the law at this point there are lots of story points that are mixed into the gory murder sequences and quite frankly I have no idea what is going on Sienna has an extended nightmare about Ark the clown that ends with him lighting a group of people on fire in her room a set of feather Wings she made for her Halloween costume catches on fire nearly setting the entire house Ablaze a sword that her father gave her was Untouched by the fire later on the sword will become important for an incomprehensible Supernatural story point the next day at school Jonathan is out on a hall pass when he sees art and the little girl playing with a dead possum in the middle of the school hallway they throw it at him Jonathan runs and he gets suspended for vandalizing the school later on he finds a news clipping in his father's Sketchbook about a young girl who was mutilated outside a carnival the carnival which later on Sienna is lured to this was the young girl playing with art as far as I can tell art Sienna and Jonathan all see and interact with this little girl but they are the only ones besides a truly incoherent post-credit scene there is nothing else I can withdraw from the story of this film to share without spoiling the plot I use these terms Loosely because really director Damen Leon should have just stuck with what works the first terrifier was under 90 minutes and had no plot it was basically just art the clown terrorizing whoever he came across on Halloween night terrifier 2 is a 22 American Supernatural slasher film 267 written directed edited and produced by Damen Leon a sequel to terrifier 2016 it is the second film centered solely around art the clown and third featurelength film to feature the character it is the second installment in the terrifier franchise it includes the return of David Howard Thornton and Samantha scafidi who portrayed art the clown and Victoria Hayes respectively in the first film and stars Lauren lava Elliot Fulham Sarah Voit Kylie Heyman and Casey hartnet the plot follows Arts resurrection and pursuit of teenage Sienna sha lav and her younger brother Jonathan Fulham on Halloween night a year after the events of the first film after being resurrected by an unknown entity following the miles County Massacre a art the clown brutally murders the coroner examining his body and goes to the laundromat to clean his blood soaked garments where he encounters the little pale girl a mysterious entity in similar clown attire a lone Patron sees art interacting with the girl who is invisible to him before being killed by Art a year later in 2018 teenager Sienna Shaw is preparing her Halloween costume an angel warrior made by her father who recently died of a brain tumor her younger brother Jonathan has become fixated with art since discovering sketches of him in their father's Sketchbook that night Sienna has a nightmare of Art and awakens to a fire on her dresser a sword that was a gift from her father remains unscathed on Halloween Jonathan sees art and the little pale girl at school playing with a dead aasum Sienna has a panic attack when her friends Ally and Brooke discuss Victoria Hay's mutilation of talk show host Monica Brown a Sienna and Ally go to the costume shop where they encounter art art kills the shop vendor and breaks into Allie's home where he brutally mimes her alli's mother is killed when she discovers art still mutilating and torturing her daughter Jonathan shows Sienna and their mother Barbara his father's Sketchbook filled with newspaper clippings revealing that the little pale girl Bears resemblance to Arts first victim Emily crane the daughter of a circus performer he believes their father knew how to stop art after a fight Barbara hits Jonathan and he runs away art kills Barbara kidnaps Jonathan and steals Sienna's sword at a Halloween party Brook spikes Sienna's drink with MDMA in an attempt to calm her but she has a panic attack Brooke and her boy boyfri Jeff drive her home but the little pale girl lures Sienna to the terrifier haunted attraction at a now defunct Carnival the same location where art killed her years before art then castrates and kills Jeff and kills Brooke with a homemade Club fitted with various stabbing implements Sienna is knocked unconscious by Art she awakens to find him using a scalpel on her brother and begins attacking him with his own weapons though art is killed several times by the siblings he continuously manages to resurrect he kills Sienna with her father's sword and throws her into a water torture cell as he attempts to eat Jonathan she is mysteriously resurrected By The Sword she decapitates art the little pale girl takes his head and leaves without hurting Sienna and Jonathan in a mid credit scene an institutionalized Victoria writes Vicky plus art and obscenities on the wall with her blood she gives birth to Arts living head leaving a horrified nurse screaming the film originated from a feature film concept Leon began developing shortly after filming his directorial debut short film The Ninth Circle 2009 the concept of the planned film focused heavily on an angel dressed heroine and ultimately fell apart following its predecessor's release Leon wanted to bring the heroine back she would evolve into Sienna someone Leon describes as the heart and soul of terrifier to Leon spent three months writing a character-driven screenplay following criticism of the first films perceived lack of narrative funding was exacting as the script was more ambitious than the first film and required a bigger budget Leon secured finances from private investors prior to filming and he launched an Indiegogo campaign with a $50,000 goal to produce a practical effects driven scene the campaign was a massive success reaching over 43% of the initial goal with a donation total of $250,000 it is one of the numerous films impacted by the worldwide covid-19 pandemic with principal photography coming to a halt mid 2020 due to the pandemic lockdowns it had its World premiere at the Fright fist on August 29th 2022 and was theatrically released in the United States on October 6th 2022 it received positive reviews from critics with particular praise for lava and Thornton's performances though the film's runtime received some criticism many critics considered the film to be an improvement over its predecessor a sequel terrifier 3 will be released in 2024 in terrifier 2 a slasher named art the clown wears a jester costume with palm palm buttons and a white baled Harlequin head cover and he's got lorus black teeth frozen into a Rus grin it's literally a dirty mouth a hooked nose that looks like something out of an anti-semitic caricature from the 30s a small Top Hat cocked to the side of his head and a general attitude of it only hurts you when I laugh blood soaked dementia that laugh of Arts is a real keep because it's silent like Marcel maros he's so brimming with stylized Delight as he chops and saws and skins and dismembers people and throws acid into their faces that he's like Freddy kruer channeling liberas channeling Joseph menel when he's soaked in Gore which is much of the time the grin shines all the brighter art the clown who is played by David Howard Thornton with the gleeful air and Rapid homicidal movements of a true Maniac totes around his arsenal of toolbox blades a random heap of Rusty knives pliers hacksaws and so on in a black garbage bag and we see him do things like Chase a victim into an office where he hammers him in the face bringing his weapon down with a force of the Damned then hammers him some more then plucks out his eyeball and plays with it then pries his face apart all before skullking off into an Alleyway and that's just the opening scene it's the movie's way of saying to its audience Hi how are you written and directed by Damen Leon who also designed the special makeup effects terrifier 2 is The squalet Blood Feast as ready-made midnight event cult film the movie arrives 6 years after Leon's first terrifier 2016 which made art into an underground mascot of horror so the anticipation has been building unlike the first one terrifier 2 is a top 10 movie with a gross of $7.6 million to date not shabby considering that the movie was made for a reported $250,000 but Leon clearly knew what he had the film's running time is at once momentous and in a weird way one of the most horrific things about it set mostly on Halloween night terrifier 2 is a distended holiday horror film that Lopes along for 2 hours and 18 minutes yet that more or less matches up with Arc the clowns philosophy of Mayhem more is more the movie which unfolds in a kind of slasher Dreamscape is a slaughterhouse burlesque that owes more than a little to the gor Gore Ingenuity of hersel Gordon Lewis who invented Ed the splatter film 60 years ago with Blood Feast and 2,000 Maniacs terrifier 2 is a horror comedy but its only real joke is how total the Carnage is none of the recent Halloween films made you feel you were truly in the scuzzy slasher Heyday of the late' 7s and early 80s but terrifier 2o does and that's part of its appeal the movie is slovenly paced with expository B movie dialogue overstated no budget acting a percolating one-man band pop score that's pure early 80s an old pre- cable TV set that keeps getting snow on it plus a teenage heroin named Sienna who looks like a scream Queen from back in the day though the actress Lauren lava is actually quite good at investing the part with a knowing lack of irony what you wouldn't have gotten in the 80s is a slasher who's an insane clown posy of one art the clown is silent but he's a macabra prankster who could almost be pennywise's more fantastically gruesome disciple terrifier 2 is essentially a series of grotesque homicidal set pieces stitched together into a threadbear narrative of midnight funh housee cliches that synth pop score gets a workout during the Montage when Sienna transforms herself into a winged Valkyrie for Halloween but the reason most of the movie could almost be a series of slasher Tik Tok videos is that it's not really staged to scare you the sequences of art the clowns slicing gouging peeling dismembering and torturing at one point he literally rubs salt in his victim's wound are supposed to make the audience feel like they're in the serial killer driver's seat a very disturbed place to be I won't mince words the first terrifier is what I'd call crap that's not always a bad thing I like a lot of crap but not this while I freely admit the film is loaded with some incredibly practical Gore the movie itself is little more than a plotless storyless valueless excuse to Showcase that Gore and not much else so when I heard a terrifier 2 Ines was on the way I was wary but Color Me surprised terrifier 2 in is a huge Improvement in nearly every way sure it's still loaded with weaknesses some truly bad performances keep getting in the way like luggage we keep tripping over on our way to something better but with this sequel writer director Damen Leon has taken The Saga of art the clown to a whole new level what a sentence that is the secret to the success of terrifier 2 in is that Leon has gone bigger in every way clocking in at a whopping 100 38 minutes terrifier 2 in has the filmmaker expanding on the mythology of it all and going for broke one of my biggest wishes when I sit down to watch a new movie is that the filmmaker will not hold back that whoever is running this show goes big and bold and swings for the fences and that's exactly what terrifier 2 in does the best comparison I can think of is Rob Zombies to Halloween films I found zombie first Halloween to be odious junk a pale imitation of John Carpenter's classic film loaded with some of the worst dialogue ever captured on screen then zombie came back with Halloween Roman 2 and surprised me sure Halloween Roman 2 still has problems Rob Zombie please hire someone else to write your movies but it was also bigger and weirder and felt more like its own unique experience terrifier 2 in is the Halloween Roman 2 of this series and it's turned me from an art the clown agnostic into a bit of a fan the first terrifier introduced us to Art the clown the very committed David Howard Thornton a malevolent seemingly Immortal serial killer clown who shows up on Halloween to torture and obliterate anyone who gets in his way and that was it really not much more to say about the film art met his apparent demise in the first film but you can't keep a good killer clown down sure enough he rises from the dead and sets out on another Killing Spree just in time for Halloween terrifier two clocks in at almost 2 and A2 hours so they have to fit some plot in there to justify the extended length the problem is the plot makes no sense there are lots of things that could be interesting that just go nowhere there are hints that Sienna and Jonathan's dad is way more messed up than merely depressed but other than a line of dialogue alluding to him having a tumor that made him act abusively we learn nothing then there are hints that Sienna and Jonathan have psychiatric disorders perhaps passed down from Dad and most obvious because they are able to see the little girl clown that ended up going nowhere finally there was the weird Supernatural ending which I won't spoil in case you actually care about the story but it made no sense not in this world and not shoehorned in at the end of this otherwise not Supernatural story but I will focus now on the part of the movie that I did like the deaths because really if you liked the first terrifier that is what you are coming to terrifier to for the deaths are particularly great brutal violent and really really bloody just gross the only thing keeping them from being nauseating is the fact that it is pretty obviously fake it's still really good prosthetic work and I give the team props for doing most if not all of the FX practically it felt like an old HG Lewis film turned up to 11 I mean art literally reaches into most of his victims and pulls out their organs and splashes around in their blood he really enjoys playing in his victim's bodies if grind houses were still a thing this would be a headliner my favorite murder was probably Ally that's not a spoiler it's a terrifier movie everyone dies so watch for that one terrifier 2 is best when it does what we are here to see big bloody murder but the attempt at a story is just atrocious terrifier 2 tries to be bigger and better than its predecessor when really we just wanted more of the same this time art is after even more fresh meat including teenager Sienna Lauren lav and her annoying and troubled little brother Jonathan Elliot Fulham but Sienna is no normal potential victim no she seems to have some sort of psychic connection to Art and it's all vaguely connected to her dead father Sienna has an almost comically long nightmare in which she's on the set of a kids TV show called The Clown Cafe where you guessed it art shows up and proceeds to murder everyone via a machine gun the imagery here is frequently disturbing including a moment when a woman singing the clown Cafe theme song is set Ablaze and keep keeps on strumming her guitar as she Burns and burns and burns while the overall plotting and storytelling remains simplistic Leon has a much firmer grasp on tone and atmosphere here Conjuring up gruesome a vocative imagery that has genuine power in a deranged sort of way I appreciated the way the filmmaker attempts to build up the mythology of it all to give Art a worthy adversary instead of just another screaming girl destined to be hacked and slashed I was curious to see terrifier too because in the last decade or so there has been at times a lurid creative spark to the genre we might call Extreme horror I'm thinking of films that even a lot of horror Buffs draw the line at seeing like Tom 6's outlandishly revolting Euro disgusto Carnival the human centipede and its even more psychotic shock theater sequel The Human Centipede to full sequence as well as a movie that's actually so shivery and real it got unfairly maligned by the brick bats that critics tend to use in attacking these films namely El s hostile part Roman 2 the infinitely creeper and more accomplished sequel to hostile it was a movie that posed a question worthy of the dark web era if there were an underground service that charged an exorbitant sum for the opportunity to torture and kill someone are there wealthy sickos out there who would take advantage of it the film forced you to consider the idea that yes there might be and in that it Illustrated a key way that extreme horror movies work there really meditations on the audience on us the people who will pay money to see this stuff when you sit in a theater and watch terrifier too the fact that you're getting onto a wavelength of debased Cruelty along with the viewers around you should make you think why am I even watching this a lot of fans would answer because it's fun it gives me a kick but what's the kick it may be a kind of distilled expression of the end of empathy when Maran crane got slaughtered in the shower in Psycho we felt for her in a way we were her but terrifier too encourages to view its victims the way the Nazis viewed theirs as gruesome fodder for an experiment in pain but yes once again the gore is massive Gore hounds will likely have their jaws on the floor at the amount of blood spillage here all of it created practically art the clown doesn't just kill people he destroys them smashing bones ripping off faces hurling acid and more it's incredibly gruesome while also being almost comical and how over the top at all is there are countless scenes where characters simply stand there mouths a gape watching as art performs some wet and gristly task and then there are victims are who are so cataclysmically destroyed physically and yet keep living and screaming just so art can continue torturing them you might argue there's no redeeming value to any of this and I won't fight you on that and yet the everything in the kitchen sink Vibe of the whole thing renders terrifier 2 in and above average slasher Extravaganza watching this gives one the sense that they're watching ing something new and that's a feeling you just can't beat whatever bloody Adventure art the clown gets up to next I'll be sure to watch terrifier 2 is an interesting film in that it tries to build off what made the first film so popular the extreme amounts of Gore and tries
