[Music] good morning I hope everyone's well today I wanted to unpack a bit of a movie pet peeve of mine okay from the movie Titanic and you can apply it in a real life scenario or you can look at the fictional version which I'm going to discuss in this video but the principle Remains the Same either way okay now in the movie Titanic after the ship hits the iceberg everyone's in self-preservation mode because a accident has occurred there's a sinking ship there's limited lifeboats some people will die either way and the aim surely for everybody on board is to preserve as much life as possible especially for the crew and especially for the ships or people in the area from neighboring vessels that would be rendering gate or rescuing the people of the stricken vessel so that's the setup there's one particular character in the movie that acts impulsively irrationally and in their own self-interest completely logic be damned Rose okay she gets into a lifeb and she voluntarily puts herself back into Harm's Way okay bear in mind this is a life and death situation now this is a an Emergency okay once you've done that and you've put yourself In Harm's Way regardless of the reason anyone's duty of Cur surrender a to you is n and void if I run into a burning building and voluntarily put myself in a burning building I've got no rights to question anybody on why they've not rescued me if I jump off a building and I die I can't blame the people that didn't rescue me for the reason why I'm dead shouldn't work that way okay now there's certain laws that came into place after the Titanic inquiry and there's certain factors that are still in play today with international law such as regulations around the preservation at life at Sea and whatnot okay now this is the fabled international law these are just treaties okay there's no actual legal thing of international law what you've got is country a agreeing with country B agreeing with country C which builds a a framework that basically holding each other to a certain standard okay if you've got people or you've got fictional people in this situation such as r on the Titanic were they're purposely putting the into Harm's Way they're purposely putting their lives on the line they they're they're volunteering that position upon themselves okay the only person that deserved not to be saved on the Titanic I know it sounds harsh is Rose because she had the opportuni to escape danger and she chose not to escape the danger she chose lost over saving her own life now that's just my opinion your marage May bury but if you're going to be that stupid to put yourself In Harm's Way nobody has an obligation to put their life at risk to help you that's my opinion anyway enjoy Titanic don't let my opinion spoil the film it is still a great movie but it bugged me on day one and it bugs me up until this day someone purposely thr that throws himself In Harm's Way do not expect anybody to help you that's my opinion thank you for your time
