Archie Griffin talks about his Ohio State career, what Buckeye Nation means to him at Skull Session

[Music] a significant connection to Ohio State and it is my great pleasure to welcome our first guest of the Season Mr Archie Griffin than you and Mr G is accompanied by his wife Bita of 37 years good to see you thank you for being here uh Mr griin the son of Margaret and James Griffin is a native of Columbus who played in Ohio State for 19 to 1975 under the legendary coach haes and later in life served as president and CEO of the univ ass so Mr welcome to we're going to keep our dist when you see the band and you look out into this audience what emotions do you feel I am extremely excited when I was here in Ohio State you know coach Woody my football coach and the fan had a wonderful relationship one of the things that I always liked was that every time Wy would see say hi B they all respond in Un Hi fantastic we got the chance to see that we got a chance to see the relationship that it was always fantastic we we love being a part of the P pth prio State football and we appreciate the relationship that we have with the football team let me ask you this what has the Bucky Community been to you all these years oh the book our community has been absolutely fantastic being here and having played here uh and then having worked here for several years over 30 years uh it's been absolutely fantastic having run the Alumni Association I mean it's been great one of the greatest things I love is that we've got so many inum you always get people shade that wherever you go will find one guys believe me that is true because I have them all over the world pretty much and everywhere I go I've seen Bucky and that's a great hand bukeye crowd and bukeye strong well you know speaking of years it has been vict since you won first of two hey that's a long time well let me ask you this what do you remember about that moment in 1974 well you know when I think about 1974 uh I think our team we had a great football team and uh that's really the reason I W to high trop because I was on such a great team I always felt that I was in the right place at the right time with the right people and playing with the guys that I played with was absolutely outstanding I think of 1974 you know my offensive line had guys like Steve BR who was in all area uh Kurt sh who was an all America Doug France who uh was a first round draft towards one Los Angeles r i mean with those kind of guys blocking for you you know you didn't do your job if you want win the highest those guys were that good yes sir well why have you always know like the highr belong to more than just your oh because you don't win the high control for your Al that man a give it to an individual but you don't win it alone you can't do that by yourself you got to have everybody else working on the same page with everybody in unison doing with this wanted to do and and that's what I had that's what was great about Coach he made it all happen I had the opportunity to play with guys that really really stood out and made sure we play as a team well you know we're going to see later today on Sho during the perform what will it mean to you to be a part of tradition now in its 88 season now they oh unbelievable absolutely I was totally shocked when I got the letter from the band and invited me to I mean was C about Big Time surprise uh so it would be a great deal when you think about the fact that you we guys like coach Hayes Bob Hope uh Jack John both brother I me it's a wonderful feeling to be amongst that group it just tells you that not many people will get that opportunity and I'm one of those people that's getting opportunity I'm looking forward to hope I don't we're glad to have you but you know we are honed to have you here today and with you and your family and for this last question I'd like to invite your wife here come on come on you are probably his she's G me a crazy look right now I'll take the he he had nothing to do with this um what else would you like to say to the crowd here at St and buy fans every say gold bols ladies and gentl thank you
