so what are we catching today I never expect to catch anything that's rule number one for me I try to go out here here and just enjoy it um cuz the moment you expect to catch something you're going to get skunked do you eat fish at the on campus Pond as a Duke I would catch some bluegill or you know brim and then chop it up in the dorm room and fry it up there me and my me and my yeah yeah me and my me and my freshman roommate just had to cut the head off scale it um and then just cook it in there and eat around the bones pretty much did your neighbors hate you yeah yeah yeah they did absolutely but we do we did a good job cleaning it up oh what do we got Riley what do we got oh nice little bluegill first fish of the day we'll take it that is a live fish it is a live fist so R the moment everything changed for you was that Clemson game last year Hunter def arms an Defender inside the five and into the end zone it's a touchdown what a play by Riley Leonard so last year obviously I went through a lot of ups and downs like you start off with that you're starting to get recognized on Duke's campus for the first time it's pretty cool feeling you know you go five and0 and then you know disaster happens with the injury Leonard hit balls loose and Leonard is crutching his ankle so was the last play of the game not fun um and kind of just heard a pop and and it was kind of out for sort of the rest of the year wa hey I think I got one oh all right up we go all right so we got another little Blu go is that the same one get in the boat first it's definitely a weird weird time at Duke obviously I was hurt so I'm kind of just sitting around around waiting trying to find out you know what's going to come into play and then Elco decided to go to A&M I'll forever be thankful to the people at Duke for giving me that opportunity I was in the Portal 2 days later it was it was a crazy story you entered the portal Notre Dame calls you I take a visit to Notre Dame the only school that I went to and just committed I knew it was a place for me your great-grandfather James Karen played here in the 30s has it been fun for you and for your family sort of to reconnect with that part of your past so my middle name is James I was I was named after him so it's huge to my family Notre Dame's obviously been a part of our lives for a long time what do we got what do we got all right we got ourselves another little Bri baby little momentum in the boat we will take it baby let go a lot of people have talked for the last uh almost nine months about uh you and Coach Elco reconnecting In This Very serendipitous way so everybody wants this big time you know Riley versus elco's story and unfortunately we just can't give that to you uh we still have a great relationship we decided just to not make the game about ourselves I think a lot of people want to you know create that narrative around us but to for me to be able to you know put Notre Dame ahead of myself and not make it about me at all I I'm just here to help and do my job
