Journey began at Walter Hines page Senior High School in his hometown where he demonstrated remarkable talent in both football and basketball Overton's versatility as an athlete was evident during his junior year where he averaged 14.6 points per game on the basketball court while also excelling in football with 31 receptions for 577 yards by his senior year Overton's football skills had truly flourished as he made 78 receptions for an impressive 1,251 yards scoring 15 touchdowns his outstanding performance on the field earned him recognition as the fourth overall football Prospect in North Carolina according to 47 Sports following his successful High School career Overton committed to playing college football at Clemson University choosing the Tigers over offers from several other Overton signed with the Pittsburgh MERS of the usfl however his time with the MERS was shortlived as the team folded following the merger of the usfl with the XFL to form the United Football League UFL this Sudden Change in the league landscape brought uncertainty but Overton's career continued when he was selected by the Memphis showboats during the UFL dispersal draft in January 2024
