face Marilyn it's called the funny face the funny face was the mascot for Steeple Chase Park Coney Island's longest lived amusement park uh steel Chase Park originally opened in the 1890s and it stayed open all the way until 1964 it's it's where the steil chase parachute jump and see that tall lighted Tower that's a stle Chase parachute jump that's used that used to be part of Luna sorry that used to be part of stle Chase Park now here in Coney Island it's called the funny face but in other places it's called the Tilly face because it's named after George C tillu the name is in the chat and that was the creator and founder of Steeple Chase Park Steeple Chase Park would later on be kind of like franchised out so they were smaller versions of Steeple Chase Park in the rockaways there was a smaller version also in Asbury Park but the one in the rockaways that eventually will become Playland and this drink is hitting the spot how blessed am I I got a rum and coke I got a cold beer rode this second version of the steeple chase so the first version of the steeple chase was really cool it kind of went through like like a park-like setting you uh rode over the canals of Venice you went through a kind of a a wooded kind of park-like experience the second version of the seel chase ride went around a massive barn-like building called the Pavilion of fun and what happened was when you came off the seable chase ride you had a you you encountered a sign and a sign said are you a gloomster or a steeple Chaser and if you were a steeplechaser if you were somebody cool you would walk onto to a stage and you were on the stage of the blo hole theater and on that stage you will have to Traverse this crazy rabbit Warren uh of a of like an obstacle course so like you had you had a cattle prods for the you had a air blowing up the women's skirts you had to go up and down a funny staircase you had a a funny staircase and a little barrel of fun and a whole bunch of other things and uh it was New York City's one of New York City's longest running shows and once you went across this incredible Labyrinth of of amusements if you will on this stage entertaining the patrons you then became part of the audience and watched the people who are behind you in line or behind you in the people chase ride experience that same experience and you could laugh at them too the sometimes the crowds got so exciting or excited that they wouldn't leave the theater so sometimes they will have to slow down the line or stop the line dim the lights on the stage to to allow a new audience in
