I'm going to get to the point quickly um I'm retiring and I have so much clarity about this decision and I so happy to be able to finally tell you Alex Morgan officially hanging up her cleats after 15 years of professional soccer what a Sweat by but that's not the only thing the athletes announcing she's also expecting baby number two Charlie's going to be a big sister I am pregnant it's literally just getting out of your comfort zone and being like I don't know what to expect like help me and we're like okay we're here Alex sharing her retirement news in this emotional video on Instagram it has been a long time coming and this decision wasn't easy but at the beginning of 2024 I felt in my heart and soul that this was the last season that I would play soccer Alex Morgan has come in number 21 top top is this thing on I'm here with my 22 best friends found to 23rd Alex's career in the US national women's soccer league kicked off in 2009 two years later she made history as the youngest player on the squad for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup we're here to do business and like work on the field and win a World Cup like I'm not trying to like go out to dinner and wear all these cute outfits like no I'm here to work Alex went on to score two World Cup titles along with a couple of Olympic medals including gold it's official like my name is etched in there I'm going with the team I'm representing my country like let's do this while Alex was busy representing her country lots of life happened too she married her hubby Sergio carasco in 2014 and welcomed their daughter Charlie 6 years later mom's got to work and and she gets it you know she just wants to go in the swimming pool and like go to my games and cheer me on and kick the soccer ball around at the park but now mom's going to have more family time and more to love with another little bundle of joy on the way as unexpected as this came um we are so Overjoyed to me Family Means Everything I wouldn't be here without my husband and my family uplifting and motivating and encouraging and supporting me and sacrificing for me for the last 15 years as a professional athlete fans will see Alex but on her San Diego wave FC Jersey One Last Time her farewell matches Sunday September yeah it's pretty incredible just seeing the sport continue to grow and seeing so many young girls um continue to stay in sports and soccer specifically so we obviously take that very seriously um just seeing how many eyes are on us and wanting to be a good role model for young girls and try to pave the way for that next generation
