several years ago single mom Amira Lee encouraged her now 15-year-old son to take up archery not realizing the sport would change her life he's so supportive that I think after a while I was uh I was a bit tired I wanted to have a break and uh he encouraged me to to continue so he's very proud at the 2021 national championships Lee who lives with multiple sclerosis became the first par Archer to win the Australian Open this will be the champion of the 2021 archery Australia Australian Open was the best that I have shot and I keep using that as my Benchmark competition the 50-year-old is now chasing qualification for the Paralympics in Paris Redemption for having missed out on selection for the Tokyo games so what I'm trying to do is better each competition so as long as I beat the competition previously I'm happy par archers shoot the distances and use the same equipment as non-disabled athletes and while some stand to compete others use a stool or wheelchair competing across three classifications Lee has already earned a quota spot for Australia in her event for Paris but she still needs to earn final selection amir's next steps are you know to in April is the qualification opportunity through the trails par Olympic Trails process uh on home turf it's a point of all that hard work and all that effort and all those tears and all that pain and all the joys it's it's finally coming to tuition taking aim for the games Elizabeth Wright ABC News
