The Hidden Reasons These States Don’t Change Their Clocks for Daylight Saving Time

welcome back to our Channel today we're diving into something that affects all of us daylight saving time it's that time of year when we all set our clocks forward or back but do you know why we do it or when it started let's break it down for you in just a couple of minutes first things first what is Daylight Saving Time DST is when we move the clocks forward 1 hour in the spring and back again in the fall the main goal is to make better use of daylight during the longer days of spring and summer this means more daylight in the evenings and less in the mornings so when does DST actually begin and end in the US it starts on the second Sunday in March we Spring Forward by setting our clocks an hour ahead at 2: a.m. then we fall back an hour on the first Sunday in November but did you know not everyone follows daylight saving time Hawaii and most of Arizona for example don't observe it at all now let's take a quick look at the history behind this daylight saving time was first used during World War I as a way to conserve fuel it was later reintroduced during World War II for the same reason however it wasn't until 1966 that the US standardized it with the uniform time act then in 2007 the start and end dates were adjusted under the energy Policy Act the idea behind DST is simple with more daylight in the evening we reduce the need for artificial lighting which saves energy but studies show that the Energy savings are actually quite small and let's not forget the health debate some people find the clock changes disrupt their sleep and there are even reports of increased health risks like heart attacks after the spring shift now here is some new info a number of states are actually looking to move away from daylight saving time as of 2024 some states like Florida and Washington have passed legislation to stay on Daylight Saving Time year round meaning their clocks won't fall back this November however these changes require Federal approval before becoming permanent States like California and Texas have also been discussing permanent DST but it's still up for debate so we could be seeing a future where some states don't follow the fallback rule While others continue with the bu annual time changes so what do you think about daylight saving time would you prefer to stick with it or are you ready to see it end for good let us know in the comments below and don't forget to like And subscribe for more quick and informative videos like this one thanks for watching and we'll see you next time
