Texas's track program has a track record of producing world class talent most recently, one of the fastest sprinters on the planet. Julian Alfred, arguably the best thrower in the world. Ryan Crouser. And we can't forget the jumping phenom, Tara Davis Wood Hall. But tonight I want to introduce you to Leo Neugebauer. He excels in all those categories and more, that's why nobody is like him. He's 67, 240 the always smiling Leo Neugebauer. So I'm German Neugebauer is a very German name, very typical German name. And yeah, so I'm here in America, the German in America. How does a guy from Germany end up in Austin, Texas? Um So kind of like coaches get interested, you know, and I visited a couple of schools and, you know, Texas is just a special place. I don't know what to say, you know, good coaches, good university. The facilities are incredible and Austin is a big city that doesn't really feel like a big city. And yeah, that's why I just fell in love with it and the longer I was here, the more I liked it, you know, let's go, Leo nice jump. You're a decathlete. I'm a decathlete. So we're talking 104 115 100 long jump, high jump shot, put pole vault. What else? What are we doing? Javelin? Exactly. That's why, how did you get into the javelin? What made you do that? So, in Germany and in Europe, in general, when you start with track, you just start doing everything kind of started at a young age over the years, there's more and more events coming to the just track and field world for you. Then at some point, I'm just good at everything. And so I'm a dili, you know, do you have a favorite event? Uh No, I like all the events besides, you know, 1500 big body is not good for the 1500. Make the sta say body, yada yada. One thing I kept on looking at was your necklace. I know you're from Germany, but you have an Africa pendant. Can you explain where that come from? Yeah. So I love jewelry in general. Like the necklace is while I'm competing. And I've been competing with this for the longest time now. And yeah, I'm a little German. So I'm like representing Germany a lot, you know, but I don't want to forget about my other side. My mom is from Germany. My dad is from Africa. So he's from Cameroon. So this necklace kind to represent my other half, you know, got you. The word on the street is, do you have all social media following. Oh Is that, is that a word? It is, that's what they say. That's what they say over 300,000 followers between tiktok ig and youtube. So what's something that you do social media wise every single day? So one thing I love to do, you know, I love to, you know, put on a fit. Yeah, you got that stuff on right now. You already know this is my, the Paris 2024 T shirt. So you're gonna be seeing a lot of people in the stands with the T shirt on and yeah, I'm about to do an outfit of the day picture. So how often do you do this every day? Um every day when I'm just, you know, feeling myself when I, when, when I got a good fit on, that's why it's most days. So sometimes it takes just forever to find the right pose, the right everything. It's just, yeah, it's a process. Uh it's like, it's always like like the walk a little bit like this, you know, look this, I think this is it. I think this is the one, ah and a little sauce. You already know, man, you already know. I'm like one last thing before I let you go when it comes to the Olympics. What are you hoping for the most when you experience that? I would say just being healthy, you know what I mean? That's like the number one thing for every athlete just being a healthy, being able to show what you can, what you've been working on in practice. And yeah, that's really it and just having a good time in front of friends and family and show, make them proud, show what I can do, man. All right. Well, thank you for showing us what you can do today. Thank you so much. I got you. I got you.
