Ashley in the past two elections Governor Roy Cooper has won the race as a Democrat while former president Donald Trump won the presidential vote this new post shows that might be the case again on November 5th we interviewed 800 people from across North Carolina in a way that would represented race gender age political party affiliation rural urban status and many other characteristics to try to get a representative snapshot Elon University released a poll that shows attorney general Josh Stein having 44% favorable Impressions versus 30% for Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson Jason huster is the director of the Elon University poll the story to me in the governor's race is not a story about Josh Stein running away with it as much as Mark Robinson currently falling behind although former president Donald Trump has a 2% over vice president K Harris in favorable impressions in North Carolina and Trump and Robinson share similar views Donald Trump's a singular figure in American political life in some ways in American political history and he's able to command a coalition of Voters that very few people have been able to pull together before just because Trump's able to do it doesn't mean that all Republicans are able to do it huster says part of the reason for Robinson not having that support is due to his policies and his stances on certain topics the top three key issues that North Carolinians care about according to the poll are the state's economy the candidates personal qualities and funding for K through2 education in a statement relased released to abc1 in Raleigh Robinson's campaign believes he can pull off a win polls have consistently underestimated Republican support in North Carolina for several Cycles now and with a large portion of the electorate still undecided as we continue to ramp up our efforts on the ground and on the airwaves Mark Robinson remains in a strong position to win in November after speaking with Stein earlier this week his eye continues to be on Election Day we call it a polar coaster they're going to be good polls and they're going to be bad polls but there's only one poll that matters and that's in November huster says there is still a lot of time before the election and anything can happen between now and November 5th Elon University will be conducting another poll in the next couple of weeks reporting in studio Elizabeth remirez ABC 45 News standing up for you
