[Music] yeah was a little weird wasn't it to pitch a shut out um what was the what was about the defense that was clicking today yeah I think that uh you know just all the preparation we've done in the offseason you know being in our third year here under coaching NOS you know we knew that that's kind of what we've been you know chasing the last couple years and it's really cool to see it you know happen and did you feel looser because of the offense and how well they did yeah I think that when the offense is clicking makes us you know play a little more freely on defense and uh it's fun you it's a lot of fun when the offense is scoring touchdowns we're getting three and outs you know going back and forth uh putting a lot of points on the board so I think it was great it felt like you guys responded to having Cody back yeah mean Cody S I mean he's a huge player of this defense huge part of this team uh you know Cody's a really tough fast you know really good player and and having him back definitely helped you know having him call the defense and having him out there with sunny uh definitely helped and we're happy to have him back how it feel get that first time oh it felt good it's like having a weight removed off your shoulders you know me and JT always joke about it that first one's the hardest you know coach Johnson always talks about it too once you get the first out of the way uh you kind of forget about him now just go play and that's when you get the most so it was good to be the first out of the way like K McDonald kind of had a good game today pass break up at the line get a tackle for loss as well what have you seen development so far yeah I think Kaden's a really good young player he uh you know he kind of brings a different different type of uh interior defensive line you know he a big kid uh you know probably like 320 uh super strong Bowl in the Run game so uh seeing him have success is good cuz he's done it all fall Camp you know he's going to be an exceptional player here in a couple years so I'm really excited for him that Western Michigan this field goal did it in way was that like a turning point like Miss like is that kind of a pivotal point for you guys I don't know yeah I actually kind of forgot they take us you go be honest with you so uh yeah I mean that it was obviously great that they Mally kept the shut out um but yeah you know we really don't think about it much on the field Maybe there a couple minutes left in the fourth quarter where you know it's kind of in our mind we start talking about it but um other than that you know we're just playing ball but you got one I mean what does that mean to you Jack I mean we talked about that you know preseason and stuff how close yall were but you know yeah I mean it's huge you know we've been I feel like we've been close 100 times the last three years um you know I think it's the first one since when like 2019 so it's definitely I mean it's it's something that we're chasing you know week in and week out and you know we think that we got the guys we know we got the guys to do it so to get that first one was great but I hope we got a couple more did that show in the second half I mean I think they had 76 yards maybe in the first half I think they got 13 or 23 or something like that in the second half total yards what did y'all talk about at halftime about I guess keeping the pressure up whatever you want to call it yeah I mean it's just coming out the second half you know and don't don't let up at all if anything you know put the the foot on and the pedal and and uh you know run these guys out of the building is our is our mindset um you know we know they're a good team they're going to come out and you know keep going until we knock him out so how's our mindset is come out second half and knock him out another quality competition what is the next step for this defense you guys have a shut out today two defensive touchdowns how do you improve on this yeah I think that we just keep you know keep got to keep getting better week in and week out um every practice and opportunity to grow you know get better at the little things there always stuff to clean up I'm sure that coach is going to have a lot of Clips tomor show we could have been better at so uh there's always something we can improve on I think it's it's just refining the techniques that we're doing right now every day practice so first two first two games is it started the way you kind of hoped it would defensively for this football team I youall played on that level that you envisioned yeah you know I think talk about defensively yeah I think that uh you know there's definitely some drives or some plays that we'd love to have back um especially in the first game and this game as well you know there's always things that we got to clean up so I think that overall you know we're in a good spot we're going to keep building and we're excited you know for these bigger games com down the line yard right yeah I mean it speaks vs how deep we are you know the guys behind you know the start group could probably start the country in all levels you know saf these linebackers be line so uh you know when you got a team that's this steep like we are you know it's you know you see that late in in games like this where they get an opportunity to play you know you don't see the level of play Drop like maybe it has for other teams who may not have the dep we oh absolutely you know it sucks sitting at home watching games but it'll be good you know get off our feet and kind of regroup you know coach day is calling us an improvement we not a b week so I'm sure we'll have enough practice to you know get our get our Fe a little this week what is the key to maintaining next week I mean maintaining when you're not playing I mean kind of staying sharp in practice you know I'm sure that we're going to have a couple hard practices you know to keep our Edge like coach day talks about uh you know you can't just you can't just take the whole week off you know what I mean it's football you kind of got to got to stand in routine and you know playing physical and you know going hard I'm not sure how much you around the country a lot of other top teams struggle you guys have avoided that these last couple years what is it about this grou that has avoided those let Downs G5 teams things like that yeah I just give credit to coach day and the staff and you know the veterans that you know we know that you know we can't come out you know that's a good team just play out there you know if we come out here we're bullshitting that they're going to come out here and you know do something on us so I think it's just you know the veter the veteran is in this team and and the coaching stff doing a great job get up the big on does say that you don't yeah I mean I think that it's uh it's something that comes with I think that's how he approaches each and every day coach is always you know he's always on fire he's always you know coaching you know on fire so I just it speaks volume for you know what he's about and what he's you know brought to his program was on the date that's weird is it OD that is crazy uh coach day as a just a head coach now have you seen the difference meaning he's got his fingered almost everything right yeah I think that you know the stuff about him not maybe being a head coach in the years previous were kind of unfair I think that the coach's always been like that but you know things happen uh but I think you know you can definitely see a different side you know him being a little more involved with the defense just kind of being in meetings with us a little more uh he's done an exceptional job
