SCO Summit 2024: Pakistan Extends Invitation to PM Modi for SCO Meeting in Islamabad

in a notable diplomatic move Pakistan has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Shanghai cooperation organization that is the SEO heads of government meeting scheduled to be held in Islamabad this October the announcement was made today by the foreign office spokesperson mumtaz Zahara Bach during a weekly press briefing the Su meeting is set to take place on the 15th and 16th of October this year and will bring together leaders from members states of the organization spokesperson Bach confirmed that invitations have been dispatched to various heads of the state including Prime Minister Modi while she noted that some countries have already confirmed their participation specifics about which nations will attend will be revealed in due course the invitation to Prime Minister Modi is significant given the long-standing tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi primarily centered around the Kashmir dispute and issues of crossb terrorism despite the ongoing friction India has maintained that it seeks normal neighborly relations with Pakistan but has emphasized that the owners is on Islamabad to create an environment free of Terror and hostility for such an engagement the upcoming SEO Summit will be preceded by a series of Preparatory meetings including a ministri gathering and several rounds of discussions among senior officials these meetings will focus on various aspects of cooperation among the SEO member States including Financial economic sociocultural and humanitarian issues so what is the SEO the Shanghai cooperation organization or the SEO is a major International body that includes India China Russia Pakistan kazakistan kyrgistan Tajikistan and usbekistan it has emerged as a significant economic and security block one of the largest trans Regional International organizations in the entire world when asked about the current state of bilateral relations with India spokesperson Bach highlighted that Pakistan does not engage in direct bilateral trade with India relations between the two countries deteriorated further after India's decision on the 5th of August in 2019 to suspend article 370 that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir Pakistan viewed this move as undermining the prospects for constructive dialogue between the two Nations and subsequently down graded its diplomatic ties with India
