PITT GAMEDAY POSTGAME SHOW: Week 2 @ Cincinnati (9/7/24)

what's up guys this is Mason sepesy and welcome to the pit football postgame show today our pit panther came back from down 27-6 and defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats 28-27 at Nipper stadium in Cincinnati Ohio we're going to recap this game I managed to watch the whole thing unfortunately at times it was very rough however the end result is the result we wanted and I felt like we deserved so definitely interesting that's sore got some colge football games on now in the background it's the one sport that you can never ever get away from I mean it's just it's it it's truly a special sport so got some games on here right now nor for they're just s another Dame upset highlights how about that Virginia bew or Virginia's leing Wake Forest right now and that's what they're selling Tennessee is being NC State and Nebraska's being Colorado so definitely interesting there but let's talk about our pit pan for so when we stopped them on the first drive I was feeling really good because last year when we played Cincinnati Cincinnati we got the ball first jovic went three and out ker had that big run Cincinnati scored a touchdown went up seven nothing from that minute on and it looks like Virginia got the ball back and and Virginia's going to beat w for Virginia is going to be wake for that's huge for sure because we play Virginia on SE November the 9th so that's interesting that's s sir Virginia is going to move to tuna just like us so wow but anyway though back to the main gist of things last year we fell behind seven nothing and that's what I always that's where I developed that philosophy you always want to defer the ball get a stop then score because especially when you're on the road this is for when you're on the road cuz that takes so much life out of the crowd as it did with pit that day and that's the game we lost so I was very disappointed when Holstein threw the pick cuz that could have been UT for us then later on since he scored a touchdown making it 7even nothing then Saul's got out to field goal making at 73 the bear cat then jumped out to 14 free lead then it went to 20 then it went to 17 to three and then Saul's got a field goal to end the half making it 176 definitely interesting that's sore but then we had some momentum at halftime and couldn't use it at all couldn't use it at all Cincinnati gets the ball back and guess what Cincinnati does scores a TS down making a 24 to6 in fact at one point this game was even 27 to6 I had about had it at that point and I was ready to change the channel to the Penn State game because Penn State was in a close one with Bowling Green which they ultimately ended up winning however thank goodness I didn't cuz that's when we got some life Kant mfi got a touchdown making it 2713 stopped Cincinnati got another touchdown I think it was mfield again making a 2719 we're back in it then comes a decision that I was not a fan of it was 27 to9 and Nardi decides to go for two we almost get it but we don't at that point I was upset because now I knew on the next drive we would have to go for two now I know there's this big thing about analytics and all that but again we need to think about this we really need to think about it why would you go for two take the tie worse comes to worse you get overtime and you're still down so thank goodness we got another stop Kade Bell gets the ball back takes us down the field yet again and we score tou cuts down it's 2725 now now we have to go for two because we decided to go for two earlier they Russ us like a herd of wild animals and they get to holti so now Cincinnati has the chance to put it away Cincinnati fouls thank goodness pick gets the ball back it's fur down we don't get it but Cincinnati commits a penalty guess what we get a first down and then we drive the field Cade Bell's offense worked it was very successful here and we were able to get into rigns for SS on a big play and SS makes it and we wion the game 28-27 Kade Bell is the best thing I think that's happened to this team since Kenny picked there's no doubt about that if you look at the decade 2020s Roaring 20s the 2020s version of The Roaring 20s there are two the two best things that happened to pit football Kenny picket and Kade Bell without Kade Bell we would not have won this game I'll tell you that right now he's one of the only offensive coordinators if not the only offensive coordinator that could have won us this game so because of his style so it's awesome that we have an effective offense now that does good and for all you guys that wor crazy about Holstein why not I mean he's still better than yell I think I get it you want to play yell but look if we would have played Jarell we may not if we would have played him we may not want have won this game it's about winning football games in 2024 you can't just toss the season away in week two it's week two you need to get six wins to get a bow game once you get six wins you're six and four six and five you do whatever you want that's when you test the young kids when you know you have a bowl and you know your season's going to go anywhere or when you're free and eight or whatever you don't do that crap at early like who just tosses the season in week two I know Florida fans they want to TOS the season because they don't like their head coats and their schedule is not the easiest in the world ever so I don't blame them but you still have to at least give it a go it's not looking pretty but they're still going to give it a go so why don't we still give it a go and we did and I was reading a tweet that said Eli Holstein just like Kristen Bayer no he's not he's much better he is an elite quarterback you're not seeing that right now but someday very soon you will he is on a bridge right now between very good and Elite if ver if this portable charger is the bridge very good is here great is here Elite is here he is right here he'll be great at the end of this season and then in 2025 I expect him to be elite and he's going to be amazing this is the future quarterback of the panther so don't give up on him too early you know who else is very obviously I said K Bell I was a little disappointed though that baralu didn't get a lot of targets today but I don't know what the ordal was there the defense needs to be better there's no doubt about it I was thrilled with how the defense played at the very end they played great in the fourth quarter but again that's what this is the same thing that happened last year Cincinnati is a young team Cincinnati is an average team they are not built like a team like Clemson or Alabama that could just like blow you out keep Deming you keep Deming you young teams that don't have a lot of death like that they wear down quickly and that's what Cincinnati did there's a reason Cincinnati won 3 and9 last year there's a reason reason people are calling for the head coats oh wa first just got a cat here this is interesting there's a reason people were calling for the coach's job in Cincinnati it's because the program right now is not where it needs to be and there's no doubt about that among Cincinnati fans now granted I'm not a s believe it or not I am not a Cincinnati hater I really am not I'd like to them get a bow game I don't want to see them be like real leag CU they are some of our Rivals but I would like I wouldn't mind seeing them get a bow game so yeah I mean that's all I have to say about that it was just I'm so happy we got this win definitely feels good that's for sure great win Great Moments great everything I'm so proud we came back it was so great to walk outside to those Victory lights tonight we worked hard we earned this one we sacrificed it all at the end it paid off I'm thrilled next week is the Backyard Brawl we better be rare in a go WVU beat Albany today 4914 it's going to be a great game it's going to be a close game it's going to come down to the wire I cannot wait for the Backyard Brawl and I cannot wait to start filming for the Backyard Brawl that's all I have for this one it's going to be a tight one next week we'll talk more enjoy this one 2 and 0 two wins down four wins to go obviously the gos are much higher for and should be much higher for this team than just getting a bll game but after last year getting those six wins in a bll game would be a great stepping stone for this program to get back to where we were in 2021 and go a little further and win that National Championship that's all I have have a good one take care stay
