flight experts calling Labor Day week and travel a win after cancellation rates were some of the lowest that we've seen all summer Fox's Mill Hayes is live at the Minneapolis Airport and Mills a travel there seems to be refounding rebounding finally from this pandemic yeah Marina that's right uh there have definitely been a lot less cancellations and delays this past weekend and that tracks with what a lot of people here at the airport have been telling me I've heard some people had some 30-minute delays not really any cancellations but one other big issue that's really impacting Travelers is lost luggage that is something that is impacting people all across the country and especially here in Minneapolis as they're returning home from their vacations but I want to show you guys just how many people were out and about this past Labor Day weekend over 8 million people went through TSA checkpoints over the weekend that is almost back to pre-pandemic travel levels and after a summer of flight delays and cancellations some people trying to avoid commercial travel altogether FlightAware tells me that 22 percent more people are flying privately in 2022 than they were in 2019. this means that there are likely more people flying this weekend than TSA numbers show plus AAA says that most people traveling for the holiday hit the roads with gas prices down and and about those cancellation issues for the past few days only 0.6 percent of flights over the Labor Day weekend were canceled so that's good news for most Travelers what we saw was actually less than half the number of cancellations that we saw on average all summer and really good news delays were still high up about 16 but even delays were down which over the summer we're running about one out of every four flights and on busy days about one out of every even three flights was delayed and about those uh baggage issues if you are trying to get ahead of your baggage getting a lost FlightAware says there are some things that you can do to make sure it doesn't happen they say that you can get a unique bright colored suitcase instead of just your average black one so it's easily recognizable also putting your contact information on your luggage is key and making sure you take a picture with your cell phone of what your baggage looks like before you get it checked so you have that for if the airlines need it in Minneapolis bills Hayes Fox 5 News
