KN who has my knife oh dude you're ey oh no I know right there's something weird going on [Music] here champagne cocktails and a luxury party put all of those in any order and it appears like a big hit for any film but what if we add murder to that list as well that's what Zoe Kravitz's directorial debut blink twice is all about the film turned out to be a smash at the box office with Spectators surprised by its honest depiction of gender interactions and Dynamics after de bu on August 8th at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles it gained considerable critical Acclaim demonstrating Kravitz's excellent work as an emerging filmmaker but what Kravitz tried to show us based on a true story let's find it out in this episode today wake up wake up so where does it all start from the film depicts down on her luck banquet waitress Freda played by Naomi Aki who after falsifying her identification in order in order to get into a Gaya where she's supposed to be pouring champagne falls in love with Tech Tycoon Slater King played by Channing Tatum whose name sounds more like Elon Musk but what she didn't know was that her life would soon become like a roller coaster of some serious troubles after meeting this guy this is frea Sarah Sarah Freeda King is returning into society after a narrowly avoided cancellation for Loosely described and sexually suspect maybe Crimes by the close of the night she and her pal had been hurried on board a private plane filled with halfway handsome men and a few other gorgeous girls heading for King's own Island which was supposedly located somewhere in the Caribbean vacation mode gets activated as Freda Slater and Friends settle into the island eat a lot of food drink and smoke what unfolds at night is initially unclear to both the audience and Freda however as the time passes the vacation mode starts to fail consistently and Paradise becomes a pit on the Island the island soon became a place where check-in was simple but checkout can be tough so is there any real life similarity well not completely as the director of the movie has said it but to some extent the character of Slater King does look like a real life person following the initial release of blink twice the similarities between Tatum Slater king and the real life figure Jeffrey Epstein have been highlighted and much debated King is a wealthy and powerful man who purchased his own Island so that he and the people he controlled could have a remote location where human rules would not apply and they would have nothing to worry about their wildest thoughts or most disgusting crimes being exposed and if you try to compare Epstein's story to this you would feel the there's if not much but some similarity which we'll also discuss now here comes another interesting part to the story the relationship between these two people is obvious but it is not just one parallel to actual life that fans can draw from Slater King's character according to the director of the movie in some ways Slater represents all wealthy and powerful men who have exploited their position to do whatever they want without fear of consequences the most catastrophic thing that might occur in the heads of such guys is that they will be uncovered for some of their crimes and may be cancelled in which case all they have to do is look apologetic and offer a believable explanation King portrays buying of his Island as a form of improvement of oneself giving himself the time and space to reflect on his actions and how he can be a better individual as well as a place to unplug and recuperate and when the crew first lands on the island it appears like this is exactly what it is for on the surface it appears to be a Utopia where the guests King invites can luxuriate and enjoy themselves in Liberation from the limit ations of everyday life however as the days pass and the visitors appear to be losing time thoughts and even themselves In This Cloud of endless relaxation and pointless enjoyment an air of fear develops now if we try to compare all of that to Epstein's Island we can find a bit of similarity there the 72 acre property which is often referred to as pedophile island is considered as one of the several locations where Epstein used to host sex parties in 1998 Epstein purchased two islands for $8 million after his passing other women came forth to say they were kidnapped and mistreated on one of the islands known as little St James the island which is part of the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean has a number of homes as well so what really happened on this island in a lawsuit filed by Virgin Islands attorney general Denise George she accused Epstein of transporting children aged 12 to 17 to his $577 million home by boat helicopter and plane from 2001 to 2019 air traffic controllers in the Virgin Islands reported seeing Epstein leave his private plane with girls who appeared to be 11 years old in 2018 according to the lawsuit convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein remains Behind Bars today on the latest child sex charges lodged against him Epstein's arrest last week has put the spotlight on a private Caribbean island he owns one that some have dubbed the island of sin structure behind me is the main building on this island and it has hosted American politicians world dignitaries and it's also the location that is alleged to have housed these wild orgies the convicted sexual felon also declined to allow investigators to enter his Island instead meeting them at his office the lawsuit also claimed that a 15-year-old girl who was assaulted and pushed to carry out sexual activities on others by Epstein attempted to flee the island but was captured and held hostage now if you try to break this whole information down you'll feel that there are some of the similarities between the reality and the movie for example the fact that the young girl was held hostage is similar to the part of the guests where they were unable to leave the island another similarity here are the women who are seen in both the cases Epstein had women and Slater had women too both the reality and the movie involved an island which is also a similarity here so to some extent we can say that the movie did take some parts from Epstein's life however according to the director of the movie Zoe Kravitz it's all a bit different while giving her thoughts in an interview whether Slater's character was inspired by that of Epstein she said yeah and it's all a metaphor it's not so literal so Epstein's situation that particular place and person that documentary or whatever it was came out not even halfway through writing blink twice according to Zoey the idea of the movie if we talk about it in inspirational terms doesn't come from one particular person but as a whole of a bunch of different things according to her the subject matter is so ancient which is actually power and oppression of women she also pointed out the fact that the narrative about men using their power in abusive ways was something that had been consistent in ages and it was a good pick to go for in terms of a movie while talking about it she said these stories would break about these people and everyone wants to act all shocked and my whole thing was you're shocked that powerful men are abusing their power this is a shock to you and boiling down what we're really talking about in this film to two people is problematic while the film did resemble at some points to that of Epstein's story it is vital to note here that this problem is being seen in pretty much all of the powerful men and maybe that's what Zoe was trying to Target in her piece of art and maybe that what we can say is something that really inspired Zoe that she came up with a whole film to represent that when kravit started working on the project back in 2017 just before the campaign known as hashm 2 she was moved by an actual problem that she believed was not being tackled in society growing up as a child of two famous individuals father Lenny Kravitz and mother Lisa Bon provided her with a distinct perspective on the roles of gender and Authority from the beginning and she wanted to shed light on something she experienced but hadn't yet stayed it came from many years of living life as a woman in this world in rooms with powerful people in them and witnessing these power dynamics from a very young age and being interested in that she said it came from many years of living life as a woman in this world in rooms with powerful people in them and witnessing these power dynamics from a very young age and being interested in that she said but whether the whole thing is inspired by a particular character or I should say characters in general the idea does take the attention of the audience to a very serious problem of this world today which is how anyone can get away with power which is nothing but phenomenal what are your thoughts on it let us know in the
