live at Spartan Stadium for the impact 88.9 wdbm halftime report between the Florida Atlantic owls and the Michigan State Spartans I'm Jacob Mau alongside our writer for the beat here Tim Marshall taking you through tonight's halftime break your current score in this one Michigan State 16 Florida Atlantic 3 Let's dive into what just unfolded first for the Spartans Aiden child his first pass picked off a little bit of a bobble from his receiver matori Foster just 7 seconds into the game f FAU then having the football they had it for a minute 53 had to punt the K Quan da two big stuffs and Chris Boggle a big sack for the Spartans Michigan State got the ball back 436 was the time they had it seven plays 39 yards but they had to punt that one but it went down to the one yd line setting up Theon Dallas for Michigan State a safety and if you head on your bingo card the Spartans first score of the 2024 season being a safety then congrats go ahead and buy a lottery ticket it was two to nothing Spartans Michigan state would then get the ball back but fumble they were all the way down to the red zone of FAU monori Foster with the costly fumble in the red zone and that would do it for the first quarter still two to nothing Michigan State then Florida Atlantic had it for a minute 40 Drive 65 yds but a big interception by the Spartans Angelo gross picked at the 11 yd line and brought all the way back to the 24 yd line of Michigan State to the Michigan State 29 yd line is where the Spartans took over but a quick three and out for Michigan State three plays only 2 yards and 55 seconds taking off the clock Florida Atlantic would get it right back back two plays nine yds but another interception Niki Martinez this time for the Spartans with the big interception for Michigan State down to the 19 yd line of Florida Atlantic that would set up the Spartans in the red zone and how about it the sophomore quarterback for Michigan State three plays 18 yards ended with a 13 yd rushing TouchDown for Aiden childes the new Man On Campus for Michigan State they would kick the extra point and take a nine to nothing lead fa would get the ball back with 158 was the time they had with the football only three plays seven yards a three and out forced by the Spartan Defense they would putt it away to the Spartans and all they needed was one play 63 yards to the house KRON Lynch Adams a 63 yd house call the extra point was good for the Spartans and it was 16 to nothing Michigan State Florida Atlantic then got the ball eight plays 52 yds 4 minutes and 23 seconds taken off the clock and they would settle for a 43 yd field goal Michigan state would then get the ball back five plays 19 yards they would have to punt it Charles struggling a little bit with his overthrows Fu would then get the ball back seven plays 34 yards but a big sack by Chris Bogle his second for the night a big tackle for a loss for the Spartans they' get the ball back with under a minute to go and run it into the halftime break where we arri at a 16-3 game in favor of the Spartans and now I want to bring in my analyst our beat riter here for the 2024 season for the Spartans Tim Marshall Tim what are your first initial thoughts in this first half uh it started sloppy the the offense just couldn't really get going early the defense and special teams really held their part held their own getting this uh te keeping this team in it to the point where the offense finally woke up in that second quarter to create this lead we were interested in how this Michigan State team would look a total gutting for their coaching staff they bring in Jonathan Smith and their brand new coaching staff and here's a number 77 that's how many new football players are on this revamped Michigan State roster the seventh most in college football and now we have finally seen an official 30 minutes from this team and we've seen the first 30 minutes for the Michigan State quarterback Aiden childes he did have that rushing touchdown and his first pass was intercepted so a little bit of a mixed bag for childes what are you seeing well that first play I I don't know how you can really put that one on him it was a bobbled pass that got overturned um he he's looked good I think you mentioned the overthrows I think maybe it's a little bit of jitters a little bit of just it's it's the first game he's a little anxious maybe but I I think he played well I think the offensive line protected him really well and the it was complimentary football with the running game and the passing game you already see it in this game the Dual threat you can have at the quarterback position opens up so much on the offensive end Michigan state was finally able to pour in some points there in the second quarter on the offensive end now I want to talk about a big part for this Michigan State team their defense when Michigan State's offense had the two costly turnovers in that first quarter the defense really stepped up they have a safety in this one along with two interceptions a big surprise here in the first half yeah I mean the MSU defense threw five drives they had two picks a safety they only allowed seven passing yards and had two punts the one thing that is kind of biting them right now is cam cam fer is he's running the ball on them right now his his his legs are a real problem for him but the good thing is for the Spartans that his arm has helped them a lot throwing those two picks yeah those were costly interceptions for for the owls one was deep in their own territory and one was deep into Michigan State territory to Michigan State taking over and able to punish the owls on that end now I want to talk about KRON Lynch Adams he had that big 63 yard touchdown he's going to be the backup behind Nate Carter but he had four carries for 73 yards he's our leading rusher in this one what have you noticed from him yeah well I mentioned on Spartan Red Zone yesterday that he can be a real part of this offense they can split more time than people think Nate Carter is really good but so is Kon so he got that touchdown I I think that's where the offensive line did a really good job at Lynch Adams he went untouched he went 63 yards nobody laid a finger on him and that's due to the offensive line right there and Tim I know for your beat report you're going to write an article about the three key takeaways now I don't want you to spoil anything right now but watching that first half do you have an idea of what those takeaways could be well yeah the the slow start really was interesting to me I I think you would expect a team that had been practicing since the spring to come out a little faster but I mean that's football and then just the defense they really have been dominant so far the defensive line putting a lot of pressure on this owls team as I mentioned I said in the podcast that I thought this Michigan State Defense would come out firing it was a great atmosphere now we got a little bit delayed with the gates opening so the student section started to trickle in kind of got full towards the beginning of the second quarter and then towards the end got completely packed this is a great atmosphere here tonight the stadium is striped under the lights the weather was a little bit of an issue in the pregame but just turned into a beautiful night for football yeah definitely I was a little concerned early especially with the gates not being open all the way at kickoff it was about maybe a half of the lower bowl was filled for the student section but as I'm looking at it right now it's completely full it's it's a great thing to see that the the hype is there for the Spartans and they're waiting to watch a second half of football now let's dive into the Future Let's Talk predictions Michigan State up 16 to3 what do you think the Outlook is for the Spartans for the rest of this football game I think they roll in the third quarter I think they come out hot first they'll have to get a stop FAU will get the ball first but I think the defense will do their job and then I think aen CH will settle in a little more maybe one of those deep balls connects we've seen a couple times he's been fractions away from getting one so I think that's what we'll see in the second half I agree the defense has been fantastic a big stop we'll get the Spartan crowd back in it for this second half the Michigan State offense started to heat up in that second quarter if they can just get some more points on the board I think it's a good outlook for the Spartans well Michigan state has won 23 consecutive home openers against non-conference opponents dating back to 1996 they have won 11 straight Friday night season openers they currently lead the Florida Atlantic owls 16-3 can they get it done tonight well the answer to that burning question is coming up soon Michigan State leads Florida Atlantic 16 to3 I've been Jacob Mau alongside Tim Marshall now sending it over to our two broadcasters for this evening Oscar Henderson and Joe Dez for the start of the second half between Florida Atlantic and Michigan State coming up on impact 88.9
