the former England Captain Ser aliser cook has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket today cook who's England record test run scorer he is the England record test run scorer I should say he's continued playing for Essex in the county championship for the last five years since he ended his International career in a statement that he published this afternoon cook said it's the right time for this part of my life to come to an end I've always given absolutely everything I possibly could have to the best player I could be but now I want to make way for the new generation to take over it's not easy to say goodbye it's been so much more than my job well cook scored over 26,000 runs in his first class career which included 74 centuries his high score of 294 was against India at edgebaston in 2011 and cook was also part of the Essex Squad that won the county championship in 2019 he spent his entire first first class County Career with Essex
