DJ WIlliams is going to pop on that headset here in just a moment as DJ WIlliams is our big dogs offensive player of the game our big dog player the game is brought to you by the big dog leadership Society DJ thanks for hopping on with us Luke Martin up top alongside mikee trud and Coach Pat poor I know DJ it wasn't the result necessarily you wanted you guys came here to get a win just take us through kind of initially in the game trying to get the offense rolling then finally it seemed like you were able to get some really positive production with your legs night in the game do you Jay um we just came out here tried to put on a good performance and uh we got put in some tough situations and we tried to battle back from it and we just wasn't able to sustain drives in the beginning of the game got us in a bad situations um some things I got to uh clean up some things the team got to clean up uh just continuing to get better is probably the best thing I could say game one coming in against a power four opponent uh we just got to keep continuing to get better and better every weekend uh a lot of that comes to me comes on me and I feel like I just got to play better and Lead this team and Lead this offense DJ what were some of the things you liked about what you did tonight and especially in that second quarter on those on that drive the touchdown Drive specifically where things really started to click uh both in the passing game and and with you running the football um running game uh I'm good at running all all the time but uh it's just some things I just got to clean up honestly I I didn't like my performance too much I mean came out here to get a to get a win and didn't come out here and I didn't succeed so uh I got to help my teammates out a little bit better we got some uh some Playmakers on the outside that I got to get the ball to I got to see the coverages a little bit better and uh I'm just going to keep continuing to try to get better and better for the Salukis and uh get us back on a winning streak was it anything they did that mixed up coverages with you or was it just you with maybe a a lack of execution uh a little bit of both I mean lack of execution my way not seeing the things um that's clean as I should have seen some things and uh they start changing up they did some things that uh we didn't expect them to do um I expected a little bit more man than man through this game and the way they was playing some cover three coveres was different than what we really practiced but um that's comes down to the quarterback at the end of the day I got to be better and Lead this team be able to uh continue to keep us on the field keep d going keep the defense off the field for so long and uh I plan on doing that the rest of the season DJ did you feel like and I and it it seemed like you you threw the ball well and and obviously they had total respect for for our program as they they did they they threw everything at you in those first two three series on defense they played some two they played some one they blitzed you a little bit and uh you know uh felt like your protection was pretty good but uh um like just did you feel like you got some some feeling of your your weapons and and and playing with people and kind of you know I know first game new new new people that's that's something that you probably look forward to next week of just like hey get us back out there on the field and rep some things and and and get that that Mojo and that chemistry going a little better yeah definitely just seeing things and being out here with these guys for the first time uh playing with some of the some of these guys for the first time all these guys for the first time honestly so uh getting out here in a live um game really was different so uh now we get to see I get to learn from the film I mean I'm just going to be in a study room all day and uh I plan on getting better and better so so we don't have these feelings anymore biggest Improvement biggest improvements from game one to game two yeah coach Hill didn't like didn't like that say so hopefully hope hopefully we do get that done the biggest improvement from game one and game two and I plan on continue to get just get better and better um I feel like I could have played much better tonight and I left it all out there on the field and that's all I can ask for DJ we we'll get you out of here on this note you know one of the things that was very clear from you know throughout fall camp and seeing you come in here honestly ever since the spring was the leadership that you brought and that was a big reason why you were one of the guys leading this team tonight at the quarterback position well it didn't get off to the best of starts but but how did you feel tonight you knew that tonight would be the first time you guys would have some adversity and you can try to create adversity in practice but it's nowhere near the same yes the result isn't what you wanted but how did you feel you guys as a team learn more about yourself being put in a lot more adverse situations like you were tonight one thing about this team that I've seen already just being here and going through this first game is that we we don't we don't quit all right that's all that's all I can ask for our team uh the team that I'm playing for a team that that's led by coach Hill um is just not quitting you see the defense going out there every play going out there giving it their all my offensive line even if they gave up some stuff uh they went out there and played their best they played to the to uh they played the hardest they could and I mean at the end of the day that's all I like to see um playing so playing so hard for for each other is what uh I'm I'm about and I like to see my teammates about the same thing so I just want to thank them uh thank the team and pretty much just ready for next week now DJ thanks so much for the theme for you guys in in this one is not happy with coming out on the losing in 4113 I know especially for you guys defensively how much pride you take on that side of the ball uh but just you initially after the game IO just what's first on your mind and what's kind of the the message for you guys from a defensive perspective after tonight um we got we just got a lot of stuff to clean up um execution that's pretty that's as simple as it gets it's just we got to do a better job executing communicating and um we also got to um get turnovers we had we didn't have no turnovers we got to force turnovers our goal is to get three and we didn't get any so we got to do a better job at in those two areas I Veron Mike true did they I mean from up here it looked like they didn't hold anything back offensively they they threw the Playbook at you were their things that that you weren't ready for or was it just as you said better execution needed down in and down in and down out I mean nothing we weren't ready for they came out um trying to get the quarterback in the Rhythm which we expected would have been week one and stuff like that but um you know we we were expecting all the double passes and know all the Deep balls and stuff like that so nothing we really expected like I said it was just it's just an execution thing we got to lock in on this next week H Veron coach poor here had a I thought a really good ball game as far as as your run fits and and and playing the run and like in the back end um was it were they were they running some route combinations on you like you said was it just execution of finishing coverages out um it seemed like the Deep the Deep hard play action was was something that got got to us a little bit M then that's just like I said another thing execution like deep players got to stay deep and that's that's pretty much it we we got had a lot of people biting down I bit down on one and got the P call and we all got to do a better job with eyes staying patient if we deep goes I sorry sorry Mike go ahead no I IA you know one of the areas too which we talked about with Coach Hill and you know it's it's after the fact now but how big of a tone Setter could it have been you think of those fourth down conversions obviously on the first drive of the game that BYU went for of those go big either way right it's obviously big for BYU they were able to convert them and get points those are areas I'm sure for you guys as a defense that you want to focus on and get off the field because those could have been big momentum changes the other way for you guys tonight yeah definitely those S down conversions you know get the crowd in the game get them get their confidence going get confidence in their quarterback and we on the first couple I know we were in man coverage and that's just we just simply got to win right there so once again that's on that's when our execution we got to do better IO I know it's never fun to talk
