Importance of long-range missiles for Ukraine we're sending here in Kev with Professor fukuyama thank you so much for this interview with um so everyone is talking right now about the long range missiles that Ukraine is asking for from your perspective how important are these missiles really and could they be a game Cher in the situation we are experiencing right now between Russia and Ukraine I think uh the long range missiles are very important uh that will allow Ukraine to put the whole of Crimea uh within range where Russian forces that's one of their major operating bases and it's very important to be able to threaten Crimea uh the other basic problem is that Russia has used its own territory as a sanctuary they can launch aircraft and missiles from Russia but there's no way that Ukraine uh can fight back and the only way you're going to stop them from doing that is by targeting um uh objectives in Russia itself and you can't do this if you don't have those kinds of missiles so you would say that that this missiles would be a game Cher in the Panorama well you know there's no single weapon system that is going to completely change the course of the war but I think it will be very very helpful so what um Chancellor Ola Germany's fears about crossing Putin's red lines Schultz in Germany saying and um the government there um is that there is this risk of Crossing that red line right that Russ Russia could um use their nuclear weapons against it um well experts often describe it as a German Ang this German fear um do you think that is a valid argument well I think that Ukraine has already crossed all of these red lines they said if you target Crimea that's a red line if you use a certain kind of weapon uh that's a red line and if you attack Russian territory so now they've basically done this big incursion into k uh oblast and nothing's happened and so I think that we have a lot of empirical evidence that these red lines really don't exist the basic thing though is that in the Russians own self-interest it makes no sense for them to use nuclear weapons it really does not give them uh an advantage given what will happen to them if they did use nuclear weapons so I think it's been a excessive fear uh it's not just the Germans that worry about this I think you know president Biden has been concerned about this but I think it's an exaggerated fear interesting do you think that if the Western allies wouldn't put so many Constraints on Ukraine by its partners conditions and limits on the support they're giving to Ukraine do you think that the war could them be ended soon I think that that's the only way that you're going to get uh any kind of settlement that isn't a Russian Victory I yes so I think that it's veryimportant uh I wouldn't put very many limits on them uh I'm not quite sure you know what people are worried about at this point but uh yeah I think that we should take off these constraints one last question Professor fukuyama if you allow um the upcoming Fukuyama: 'Trump is on the Russian side' elections in the United States so the government here president zalinski they're saying they would work either with Camila Harris as a president or with Donald Trump um do you think this would make a big difference um regarding where the war goes who will be president next in the US it it's night and day I mean Donald Trump is on the Russian side so he's going to end the war by you know basically allowing Putin to get what he wants so it's a but president zinski is saying that he could work with him well of course he has to say that you know he he can't alienate Trump before he's even elected but I think that it's going to be a disaster for Ukraine if Trump is elected Professor fuk thank you so much for this interview okay than thanks thank you so much okay
