far what do you see him yeah the Bobcat offense has been able to move the ball that was just uh some pressure there that the Lobos from New Mexico brought that time cut Tommy mot off guard and wasn't able to protect that ball bad break early but I think the Bobcat offense uh will re respond here quickly yeah no doubt and now Leo this is on the Bobcat defense it was not as stalwart as it needed to be last last year this is going to be a huge drive for the Bob Cat D yeah it's going to be a big test for us up front and in the secondary our linebacking core looks like they're flying around having a great time I'm excited to see what happens this one all the starters out there now Al though they did swap in Andrew Powell for Simeon Woodard so it's Powell and Johnson as The cornerbacks now Alec eer and Blake Schmidt are on the inside of the line and then it is Brody greby and Kenneth Iden as the ends Lou lppa and M rilly as the linebackers miles Jackson is the nickel and Kaden dard playing the free safety with Ryland ort as the strong safety backed up at their own 5 yd line damp with his feet on the goal line takes the first down snap pump fakes now trying to roll out he's under pressure gets a little bit of room he slips off one tackler rolling out to his left turns up field the numbers to the 10 gets the 15 yd line Cuts back right and he's tackled there after picking up the first down but there is some laundry on the field we'll see which way this thing is going yeah it looks like an apparent uh to me it looks like a hold on the offensive uh wide receiver there number 10 oh I don't know I think I just saw one of the officials pointing toward the Bobcat side let's see officials are coming together I mean usually when a quarterback scrambles like that there's a hold on that's that Bobcat defense we like to see right there baby big time play by McCain O'Reilly great job by coach Dy bringing bringing some pressure testing them early all right that was much needed so now you're still in okay spot right look yes Montana State gives up the big play you move him back just a little bit push New Mexico back to the 28 yd line and now they've got third and 11 you got a chance to get out of here relative unscathed potentially we'll see what kind of range their field goal unit has I was just thinking the same thing about their field goal kicker see what he's got yeah it's cuspy range right now for New Mexico dampier takes a high snap he looks to his right throws that is incomplete boy he tried to thread the needle there a little pressure from Miles Jackson and Simeon Woodard to make that a tough play and now they will try the field goal here from the 28 yd line you know defense has been doing a great job getting some pressure on that quarterback yeah he's Noah ainger good block over there too to at least pick up three yards otherwise that thing would have been blown up quickly oh for sure now that's what I'm talking about getting back in that Rhythm the clock at this point of course Dan Davies will have head coach Brent vegan before he heads into the locker room clock winding down I think this is going to be it yeah they're not going to get something off here no yeah they're just Milling around the line 10 seconds left in the second quarter lobo's up 2414 and that will wrap it up all right a dramatic first half of the football season Montana State trailing 2414 they gave up the first 17 points then they had touchdowns on backto back drives did get a big three and out in the middle there Montana State kind of survives the uh the first half as they Trail by 10 heading back to the locker room it has not been uh particularly easy but Montana State finding a way to get this thing done so far and they are certainly still within shouting distance for uh for the Bobcats as they look to start this season with a with a victory their earliest kickoff in program history on the calendar on August 24th so Montana State weathered an early storm with a lot of mistakes and some things kind of all over the place but they have found a way to stay alive and keep themselves right in this thing and they'll get the ball coming out of halftime and it'll be very interesting to see just how Montana State makes a few adjustments and gets things uh gets things going we know uh Dan will have Brent here in a moment we got eyes on you so well coach a little jittery that first quarter there offensively and defensively but the second quarter they uh seem to settle down you got some stops and some points on the board yeah anytime um you to be happy with the Special Teams at the Pats yeah we were two for two there Brennon changed the the field on a couple punts um and obviously he's touched the ball back so um yeah we're going to need pretty solid in that first half and yeah there were some mistakes but these guys have been in tough places before well yeah for sure and you got to win all faets of the game to get a w so special coming into this week and a rare mistake for a guy who actually had some of those early last year in week two against s South Dakota state but really stiffened up and he was a freshman All-American since 2016 that was their last Mountain West Championship last time they've been B eligible last time they were above 500 trying to get this fan base back into it third and 12 from their own 16 yd line snaap to mot looking right looks left under pressure eludes pressure hit as he throws ball is loose they call that a fumble picked up by New Mexico and he's into the end zone touchdown New Mexico are they saying he was down the officials have not signaled a touchdown did he get his arm moving forward they have not signal touchdown they rule a fumble recover by the defense and it is a touchdown there's the signal second fumble recovery for a touchdown by New Mexico and apparently Tommy did not get that arm moving forward Bo that's close I just saw the replay on the video board that looked pretty darn close and the second defensive touchdown by New Mexico guys I was right here uh as I was changing the equipment under review they're going to review it yeah what did you see on that play it to me it it he got rid of it and they give the benefit of it out to the quarterback when it is close right yeah and I mean it it did it looked like that arm was starting to come forward I wouldn't be surprised here we got a view uh on the on the video board I wouldn't be surprised if this gets overturned and yeah he looked like he was starting to come forward but we'll see that's really still very close too much of a gray area there but like Dan said they area on the side of the quarterback I assume that comes from the tuck Ru of Tom Brady so we'll see and it is under review now we remind perseverance resilience but also just faith in one another to be able to get that job done this is a senior Laden team and they made a lot of mistakes today they gave up two defensive touchdowns on fumbles Tommy mot does not fumble in his career it's just not a thing he does he fumbled twice and they were both returned for touchdowns but he didn't back down and he was the star of the show on ahead game-winning touchdown with 10 seconds left and it was a freshman and a sof for in the ground game with Julius Davis out today and for the foreseeable future that led the game on on the ground today yeah those Young Bucks really played like veterans today hard nose upfront football and again I can't commend Tommy mot being in a different role as a pocket passer being able to lead this team yeah he might have had a couple mistakes but that's how you overcome those obstacles that's how you show yourself as a champion it's not about what happened it's about how you finish yeah really impressive stuff from Montana State today they scored 21 points in the fourth quarter they were down 17 nothing with 14 minutes to go in the second then they scored two touchdowns they got a three and out that helped that out they started to come back they have the football coming out of uh out of halftime you're thinking all right you're in a good place and all of a sudden another fumble sack and uh picked up and returned for another touchdown so that made it 3114 2 minutes into the second half and for Montana State they they did not score again until the fourth fourth quarter they scor four touchdowns in that fourth quarter Tommy mot had a broken play which he rushed for 15 yards into the end zone Adam Jones had a 93 yard strike unbelievable stuff and then Scott Trey Humphrey capped that 11pl 89 yard drive at the uh at the end of the fourth quarter Montana State wins 3531 all right let's get to some business today we're going to hear from coach vegan here in uh in just a bit but first uh let's get to our McDonald's delivery of the game what do we got in terms of the delivery of the game today uh Leo delivery of the game I got to give it to my big guys up front in the trenches especially that Marcus where and uh you know the our our left tackle making a start as a freshon yes sir Mr Jefferson making a start at left tackle as a freshman against a mount West opponent great job fellas I got to give my hats off to you so none of the Five Guys on the starting uh offensive line today were playing the position expected to play coming on a spring ball and yet Montana State still rushed for over 350 yards today well that goes with the coaching staff you got to always make sure that your guys know not only the job that you're doing but what the guy next to you is doing so you can be able to move fluidly between tackle guard Center and be able to stay on the same page without missing a beat yeah impressive stuff today so it's cetric Jefferson The second-year Freshman from Tula who play two games in his career he moved into the left tackle spot Conor Moore moved from left tackle to left guard JT Reed unavailable brick Castell banged up Cole s replacing Justice Perkins at the center position Marcus Weir had already moved in from right tackle to Right Guard and that moveed Titan fman the 64 300lb uh fourth year player uh at the right tackle spot so really impressive stuff all right let's get next to our player of the game today presented by Inter Mountain Health I got to go with Scott Trey that boy worked his butt off and I tell you what he kept coming back and he look like he got banged up there a little tweak there in the second half and way to Caple it off you know that last touchdown hats off to you my man as well no doubt it was impressive stuff Scott Trey Humphrey 19 carries for 140 yards one rushing touchdown a career high in the rushing yard department for Adam Jones 17 carries 167 yards and a touchdown uh he had rushed for something like 55 or so yards last year in limited time they preserved his red shirt uh he was great and again had the 93 yard rushing touchdown Tommy mot nine carries for 30 yards in a touchdown so they didn't have to rely on his legs and mot went 21 of 30 32 through the air 205 yard two passing touchdowns today so for aot he was responsible for uh what is that two three different touchdowns out of the five that they scored so he's up to 56 touchdowns responsible for now got coach vegan here we Dan Davies down on the sideline with head coach Brent vegan go ahead Dan all right coach vegan congratulations what a what a remarkable comeback in that second half but what what what are your thoughts here as you just as you walked out with the team well we found a way I I don't I I there's a lot to not like in that game as far as you know plays here plays there um you know some of it uh just credit to go to New Mexico I think they came out and they had a new found belief and they got some guys that can play um but we found a way in the end you know it's offense and defense you know needing to work together uh special teams um you know Brennan's ability to put the ball out um the way punted today you know all and making all their extra points you know making that a four-point game um that's a pretty big deal at the end it's a really big deal the the Special Teams I mean all All Phases mean covered well I mean you didn't have to cover the kicks up much but uh you caught the punts and those types of things and didn't get you in trouble yeah and that's we need to win that battle game in and game out there wasn't these big swings necessarily as far as field position goes but I think I think ultimately with just Brennan's ability to kick and then I know they missed a couple kicks on the other side we didn't attempt a couple maybe but but um you got to win that phase and and certainly I know offense and defense there was moments where it didn't all add up um anytime you you give a an opposing team two touchdowns like that it's really hard to win especially when you don't get a turnover back you don't get a touchdown like that back so you know you you come out of it you win I I I suppose my hope is a couple months down the road we won't remember how we came to this this ending we won a game I I hope we learn in Victory um you know the mistakes that we made um but also you know this this belief in in one another grow stronger talk about your offensive line how' they step up well you know it got cooler at the end when the cloud cover came in but uh that this today was a grind for them and um you know they had to be on there was we played five guys and we played two guys and Cedric and and Titan that was really that was their first action uh so undoubtedly they were a difference and you know we hope to build that depth up um moving forward but we had we had today and uh you know I think those guys did a great job yeah rough over 300 I'm almost 350 I think I'm not sure but you still have that same kind of balance is what you've had in the past years but I don't know if that's your goal or not well if we can run it we want to run it I I know there was uh you know I think there was moments where passing game looked looked really good you know and I think we found guys and you could see and Tai and Junior Rohan Adam out of the back field um you know there's guys that can do something after the catch so that we need to improve upon that but we we made who made some plays um Tommy was far from perfect but I I he hung in there right and and you know when all the chips were on the line there he got it done yeah no question about it so you face kind of an unknown opponent this week new coach whole different uh style offense defensive coordinator you got the same thing next week yeah yeah and we played them last year but it's it's going to be a lot of different uh faces the uniforms will be just a different color have maybe the only familiarity um we go to their place so you know uh 8:00 kick next week it's it's going to be 100 in St George that day I know so hopefully we you know learned how to battle through the heat a little bit today um you know cuz it's going to be hot at 8:00 next week but more than anything uh we got to we got to get healed up from whatever went went went went on today I guess and then uh we got to get better you know that game won the game two Improvement regardless of who we play what they throw at us we got to get better next week any injuries uh the report yeah Elijah Elliott went down I don't know the I don't know the severity of it I know he was um he was in crutches I think going in I think that's the only one that I saw but you never know um until you get uh get back home and get the training report start the season 1 and0 it was a a heck of a ball game today I'm Keat glogle alongside Leo Davis and Dan Davies rejoins Us in the First Interstate Bank broadcast booth and man oh man that was uh heck of a week today as Montana State got it done uh Dan just give us a sense both on the sideline and kind of around the locker room once this game went final just what it was like down there for these guys to be so resilient find a way to win a ball game like this well first of all I was tired before I got to the stairs yeah so anyway I'm glad to be here yes uh nonetheless yeah it I mean you could just you could hear it in coach fegan's voice um you know talking after he talked to the team and came out and and as he was gracious enough to talk to us about how special that was to to come back from a huge huge deficit and the cards were not lining up uh you know Midway through that third quarter and then all of a sudden they just kept believing kept believing and uh those those kids and parents out there are jacked yeah Leo give us a sense from the player perspective of just you know when when things do go wrong what's the difference between letting it snowball versus turning it around well it's the mentality of the individual um it's the program it's the guys that you um not only represent but also the guys you go to battle with right you don't want to let nobody down so it it all starts with me as as a player so from a player perspective if I'm if I had a bad play I'm going to make it up to my guys I owe them one right so everybody looked like they came bounced back just kind of settled back into the groove of the game looked like we're trying to do a little bit too much that first half but they found a way to get it done and Tommy mot man what a performance orchestrating that two-minute Drive first it was Adam Jones who had the 93 yard rushing touchdown that really set it all up the Bobcat defense was able to get a couple of stops and that was a major question through the offseason but Dan I want to talk about Tommy's uh work of the offense to drive that team down the football field this was the big question what would Tommy look like as the A1 pocket passer for the Bobcats and he was pretty special today yeah well I've been to a lot of practices and uh there's rarely a practice that I've been to that they don't work on the two-minute drill I mean they that that that's just part of the deal they didn't Panic um they you know had an opportunity with field goal to tie it didn't want to do that I I was a little getting a little anxious as they got it inside the five there I said let's get going here and yeah they punched it right in 10 seconds left and that was it yeah and they had the one timeout so if they wanted to use that but you want to go for the win when you're on the road like this when it is questionable with special teams even if they had converted some kicks already so it was uh certainly good to see uh you know we've talked about it a little bit on the offensive line but three I mean 360 plus yards Leo I mean that that is a massive amount of yards when you're rb1 is out in Julius Davis and that was a freshman in sophomore today that did the heavy lifting oh yeah no that was very impressive and those young guys played like veterans man the way they stuck their foot in the ground made one move and just greeted contact a lot of times those Defenders were looking like the nail our running backs were looking like the Hammers yeah that was some pretty impressive stuff and you know for Montana State they also rotate a lot of guys in on the defensive line so we saw a lot of guys do some work there you know we saw some shuffling around of the safety position with Kaden doler today Blake still well had those two uh composure penalties late in the game and you know you have to move dollar kind of back to that so we saw a lot of shuffling and a lot of Versatility from guys and really they didn't go too much deeper on that linebacker room behind uh Lou lppa and O'Reilly I know they like to and Bryce greby you know he made an impact there for a moment but for the most part those guys were straight up in this heat today and uh were they going to get stops were they going to be aggressive this year under the new DC and they certainly were uh here Dan yeah and it's you know you've got to uh anytime you get a road win but to get a road win in an FBS school um it's it is special and I was in Colorado uh 20 years ago or whenever that was 2006 uh with the Colorado win and it was uh I remember coach Kramer got a call from ESPN and we were on the bus and uh he goes longtime listener first time caller that wasn't my favorite line of that whole weekend yeah no doubt but because we've been there a lot we've been there before we gotten you know gotten close just never got over the hump but to come out of there with a win and and you know to come out of here with a win being down so much you adversity was you know piling up against Montana state with those two defensive touchdowns so it's uh a special special win now we're all feeling good that was a heck of a ball game we're going to remember that one for a long time but if the score was slightly different or something went different you know we'd be really harping on some things that need to improve because that was not a perfect game it was not a clean game and there were a lot of mistakes there's obviously opportunities to get better so I ask you both what's one thing you want to see this team really make that Improvement on going from week one to week two cuz there were a couple things there that could easily be cleaned up Le I'll go with you first you know from a player perspective those uh those secondary penalties those are just as big as big plays right momentum Killers any get them 15 yards down the field especially when a Ball's uncatchable there was a couple of those yeah you know what I mean so we got to clean clean up our style of play when we're playing also too we can't beat ourselves in the first half yeah or we can't come out in the second half and give him another just give me touchdown no doubt uh Dan what do you want to see cleaned up going into next week well coach vegan uh alluded to it in the in the postgame about the Improvement between game one and game two that's been in college football or high school football for a long time because you got a bunch of new guys out there they're not sure they're nervous coaches are new new roles and so forth and nervous and now it's time you just got to you got to enjoy the win however you say all right but let's work on this let's work on this and it's it's got to clean up but uh you know penalties are some of the penalties we had some of were inexcusable and and uh I know that will be corrected yeah coach vegan he I think he corrected there about 30 seconds after it happened uh but you know he just doesn't tolerate that and our staff doesn't tolerate that that's just uh something that well you can't beat yourself just like you were talking about so those are things uh the thing I was really impressed with and I ask him about the offensive line we didn't have many false starts I mean that's a big deal and someone that that hasn't played center for yeah in you know a couple years he hasn't played much and the one bad snap turned into a touchdown it was a broken supposed to hand off to Adam so you got to credit you know those guys hung it together I mean Cole is a veteran plus as they say right guy but anyway uh he he's the he's the glue in that center right now and going for Justice right now well we were excited for the season and uh today certainly delivered in week one and we've got more coming up presented by
