wear that number and what's happened since about an enduring Bond and a deep friendship it's about more than a number I love watching 16 heart and soul and commitment 16 is special before the number it was about the player and the person the Son and the friend Jackson Coker grew up in Texas excelling at everything but playing football that famed Westlake High School in Austin might have thrown the most uh shout out mom and dad he wanted to you know just be the best version of a player that he could be he would do anything for his teammates man such a bigger brother um he was he was my big bro Michael Taff known as mooki was a year behind Jackson at Wesley L from the start the older number 16 pushed the younger number 14 after school he would see Jackson working and Jackson said I can tell you really want this why don't you come work with me and they'd work every day after school Jackson was the uh kind of the older brother of the two Jackson was the mentor he was just that guy that no matter where I was at he was going to show up and he was going to be there for me Outfield and that's picked off by C start it again as starters together they achieved their first dream in 2019 winning a Texas state championship for Wesley how does state champ sound sounds damn [Applause] good he just came running up to me and we embraced and hucked [Music] and special after graduating Jackson chose to play football at his dream School Columbia University in New York City in the spring of 2021 Jackson was on his way to an early morning workout while back in Austin he never got there some distraction text I don't know uh he ran off this road in this particular place and he was ejected from the car I get a call one car crash one died and right when I heard one died I knew immediately I called my mom and said Mom it's Jackson he's gone that was the hardest day I've ever been through I struggle with the why you know as God how could you take it such a fine tool in your toolbox and take it away from us Jackson Coker was 18 years [Music] old that fall Michael chose to walk on for the Longhorns with his friend's memory and example spurring him on he achieved his next dream one last thing Michael tap you're on [Applause] scholarship then in the spring of 23 Michael made a request of his head coach I said I want to switch to 16 for Jackson Coker I want people to know when I'm out there in front of 100,000 fans that 16 is for Jackson I honestly believe Muki wouldn't do something like this if it wasn't true to him inside I think putting on 16 matters to him I feel like he's with me and he's going to help me get through this and maybe mooki feels the same way on the field I think he is watching over all of us helping [Music] us since T switched his number
