a lot of emotions but but all the good ones right i'm excited i'm pumped i'm honored uh i'm humbled um to be named the head coach at the university of texas i mean that this is uh you know i have a quick story to tell this morning i was on the phone with my parents my dad's 84 years old and i mentioned about you know i think i'm getting this texas head coaching job and he said you know about 20 years ago you told me dad that's the job that's the best job in america and it's amazing to think here we are 15 years removed from me standing on the opposite sideline of vince young running the end zone with the rose bowl of being named head coach of texas it's a tremendous opportunity for me super excited about the team just in general i think this is a very talented football team i've got a chance to watch them a few times this season there's a lot of talent on this team i think there's championship talent on this team clearly there's work to be done or a change wouldn't be made and so that's uh that's a responsibility of mine that we have to get that done we will in my opinion assemble the best if not one of the best staffs in america um and then our job ultimately is to put our our young men in the best position to be successful i you know i want when people when people watch us play that they're proud of the brand of football that we put on the field and that's a physical brand of football one that's built on toughness one that's fast one that's attacking um and one that you know they want to be able to brag to their buddies to say did you watch texas play today and you know that that takes time that takes time but my belief is we're going to put something together here that is going to be exciting that is going to be fun to watch that's going to be attack driven whether that's on offense defense or special teams but is also a disciplined physical style of football that is going to be needed to win championships
