okay Mark how much did you see this team grow from the beginning of the season to the end yeah I mean I think I mean we were we were good right from the start when I got here you know so I I wasn't here last year uh that were the season before so um we uh when I got here I mean I before I got here I knew the talent that was in the lineup and I believe that they were better than everyone was projecting them to be and it was pretty apparent that was the case when I got here and uh um how hard they've we worked this year and and the commitment that they showed um you know put us in a position to to be able to get in the playoffs so uh it's a it's an exciting team for sure Mark when you signed and you know you said you had a conversation with Ts that you might not necessarily play gain that they were going to prioritize the kids but there's one thing to have the conversation there's another thing to live it I guess how tough was that to you know kind of accept that that you weren't going to be in the lineup every night especially down the stretch yeah yeah I mean it was definitely challenging something that I haven't uh ever dealt with in in my career so um from that standpoint was uh was was a lot different I mean yeah I would love to have played more games and and you know especially the last month year to to to be able to get in and help um but uh I don't have any regrets coming here uh I really enjoyed myself um great bunch of guys I got to meet and good organization uh so I mean yeah obviously like I said I'd love to have been in more more games and and and help um on the ice um but uh you know it's doesn't always work out the way wanted to but I mean I still have uh I still had a lot of fun and uh um still a good year you've obviously seen a lot in your career just from your perspective why was it such a struggle for the last three four weeks for this team I don't know I I think I think through the through the stretch where we I think we were I six or seven in a row we lost or or weren't able to get points I think we had some games where we played really well and we didn't win and then then that kind of snowballed into just losing our confidence a little bit in in closing out a game or or getting a win and um and at that time of year uh it's the hardest time of year to get wins and so when you're going through that as a team it's it's it's tough to to get your footing back and uh we found it just a little bit too late and um you know you get one or two wins in that little stretch there and we're having a different conversation not right now so um but that's something that um these guys will learn from for sure um they've now been through a push like this uh knowing how hard it is to win the last month of the Season how important it is to keep winning because every other team is going to keep winning to to get in so uh I think it's going to be huge for uh for these guys to to have experienced that and and and uh you know when they're in that situation again uh handle it better Mark you were on a a one-year deal just curious personally where do you stand and maybe coming back next year or or playing again too yeah I haven't thought really too much about it yet I'm going to go home uh spend spend some time my family been away from them quite a bit this year so I'm looking forward to to that and uh when we get into the summer you have some conversations and see what's what but um uh yeah I'm not really sure yet you mentioned this is a little bit of a younger team from day one to day 82 do you see progress in these guys of how well they transition for the season especially being where they were what they were expected to do and how they acted to it yeah I I think um yeah they I mean all these guys showed a tremendous amount of confidence all year long I think everyone played really confidently really well uh we started to they started to believe in each other that that every guy in that room is good enough to to be able to compete in this league every every night and showed that pretty consistently all year long so um yes I mean they're they're young but I mean they have some good leadership in that room and and some veteran guys and some good young players I mean it's uh you know future is definitely right for these guys for sure as someone who's been a penalty killer pretty much your whole career how hard is it for a team to sustain for five plus months the way that the Flyers PK was remarkably consistent a little bit di towards the end yeah yeah I mean it was a massive part of of of us winning games I mean uh I think U our our PK was perfect most nights and it gave us a chance to win uh on pretty much every single night so um yeah it was in a one of the best penalty Cod groups probably I've I've been a part of just is the short-handed goals we get we were dangerous killed a lot off we great goal tending um all those things add up into a great penalty kill so um yeah I mean it's uh takes a lot of commitment I we have a lot of guys that eat shots too like you know guys just or sacrifice themselves and that's part of having a great penalty kill and and we had guys willing to do that all year long and um yeah it's big can I one more sorry uh you you worked with joh obviously a lot over the course of your career I'm just curious how you see him this year maybe compared to your is with the Rangers uh well I he was he's changed a bit I would say I mean I think the core of himself is has never changed in the way he uh way he approaches the game and the way he teaches the game and the intensity coaches with that hasn't changed I think there's certain things that um maybe did New York that he doesn't do now but I mean for the most part uh same guy same coach and uh um you know he uh he he pushes the guys to to try to get the most of them every night and um you know I think with what we've done this year and and the consistency we played with um uh you know he's a big part of that for sure
