this is going to be I think a historic election for the United States every poll that we've seen is literally now within a onepoint margin Jessica first of all then uh I suppose in terms of this moment this interview surely the fact is that given the criticism KLA Harris has faced this was a chance to surprise people to give something new and she hasn't done that no but she also didn't fully disappoint I mean I think that's sort of the best like situation possible I really don't know that it was one of those situations where there were that many people turning in tuning in um particularly given that we just had the convention where there was so much attention placed on it and actually it was a wonderful convention I think she's much better actually on the stump giving speeches per se than she is maybe in a one-on-one interview um but it wasn't like a horrible interview it just wasn't one of those things where I think it's going to be oh yes that's the interview that's going to persuade all these independent voters that this is the ticket that they're going to vote for yeah I suppose one thing about it when when we consider the significance of an interview like this is about what it sees about the campaign because does it suggest if if she performs well in kind of campaign rallies and speeches that's actually quite a different context to being interrogated by a journalistic interviewer AR suggest this wasn't a massive Le thorough interrogation but anyway that aside you can't just run a campaign on Vibes can you there's got to be some depth well I mean I think there is here that's really what the momentum has been about um I would like to see more in general and I think a lot of Voters would about the economy she started with saying that you know on day one that she's going to focus on the middle class but then there weren't a lot of details at what that looks like other than we're talking about you know the um child tax credit for families things like that um firsttime home buyers but a lot of there was some talk about small business to your point I think not a lot of particulars but what we've seen in general with the voters right now in the United States is really this sort of ideological divide between the folks that are very Pro Trump the folks that are very Pro anyone but Trump and then this small Universe of persuadable people in the middle and that's really who everyone is trying to reach right now that's who we see Trump going after with him saying he's going to unify people him bringing on people like you know Robert F Kennedy Jr and telsey gabard who was also a former Democratic um not candidate for president um actually when Camala Harris ran previously then we see that also from Camala Harris in terms of her moderation with a lot of her points whether it be on fracking on environmental policy on all of these things that we heard talk her talk about a little bit and that um Dana Bash actually was questioning her on in this interview that they say oh she's flip-flopping or things like that um but everyone's sort of going I think a little bit towards the middle which is always a good thing for American politics That's The Sweet Spot the question is going to be who's going to get out the most votes and those voters that are going to be the swing States in this election are those more middle class middleof the road Centrist voters in places like Pennsylvania Michigan even in Georgia um Arizona those are the places that are literally going to make the difference in this election yeah was it weird that Tim wels was there what what was his purpose in this sit down interview I mean I'm a little torn on it I think even amongst Democratic circles it was a little like but I think part of it is to show that they're a team she was definitely the leader and the head of the team um he's so likable and he's so affable and and um he's very supportive and on board and he also gives that sort of you know Middle America and you know former football coach and high school teacher vibe that is very important to the electorate that they're trying to reach and I think that's what they were going for um you know some people particularly I even some you know hardcore feminists were like why is it necessary for him to be there but I think in general it was so that it would show their General like this is the ticket that you're voting for in stark contrast to you know the Trump Vance ticket um what then of Donald Trump's response who has posted boring in capital letters with several exclamation marks afterwards he was kind of critical of the inter I mean he's critical of KLA Harris at the best of times but saying uh you know that that the fact that wal was aider was a weakness uh you know obviously saying that with the word boring that there was there was nothing here to get excited about I mean if that's the worst thing you can say then that's not bad sort of to my point where I don't think this was a knock it out of the ballpark interview but it certainly wasn't filled with gaffs or anything horrible there was nothing that was here that was going to I think turn people off from voting for them and hence he's calling it boring I don't think it needed to be fireworks we already had that with the Democratic Convention that was literally fresh in people's minds and they've been holding rallies around the country on a daily basis um what I do think will be interesting will be how the debate goes down and a lot of this is going to be lead up I mean one thing Trump does incredibly well is get eyeballs on a screen whether it's the television whether it's on a radio whether it's his Twitter accounts or whatever it may be X now whatever you want to call it his social media and um certainly that is sort of what we've been seeing in terms of this drum beat that's leading up to their debate where they be one-on-one and as opposed to you know tonight which was a pretty truncated interview it was fairly short how many people are turning into CNN on a Thursday night and also particularly to note for your audience this is a bank holiday weekend for us Monday is Labor day and many people are already on vacation I mean this is kind of timed in a weird place where not a lot of eyeballs would necessarily be on the screen watching this they'll get Clips later on things like that but I think there was really anything here that can be used necessarily against Harris and walz but the debate that's going to be big viewership yeah just the final one Jessica very quickly is it clear at this point in the campaign with what 67 days I think it is now to go until election day itself is it clear what would Define uh KLA Harris presidency I'm thinking of Barack Obama and ObamaCare for example is there something that we can point to right now that says this is what Harris would be about in a word or two well I think really I mean Obamacare came on later at this point you know back in 2008 we were not talking about Obamacare being his first thing if anything we were talking about the economy because of the state of the recession and everything that was going on with what we had just happened and his word was hope and what we saw come out of the DNC in terms of the convention was that Camala Harris's word is joy and trying to bring back a sense of that hopeful joy and happiness to people and I really think that's what they're going for in general what they did at the campaign what they're doing in rallies and they've been able to really inspire people in terms of Volunteers in terms of getting people on the phones doing old school retail politics and with this short of a time frame it'll be really interesting to see this is going to be I think a historic election for the United States every poll that we've seen is literally now within a onepoint margin
