Championship Banner kicking off the season on a Thursday but we remember last year they lost to the lions in the opener without Chris Jones so to what extent Michelle have they been addressing what happened last year ahead of tonight yeah no Chris Jones and no Travis Kelce in that game either last year week one Hannah happy football everybody and no better place to open the season than here at Arrowhead the home of the back-to-back defending Champion Kansas City Chiefs and you are absolutely right they do they do not want a Redux of what happened last year week one I can tell you that Patrick Mahomes isn't necessarily dwelling on that 21 to20 loss but he certainly is motivated by it and what he calls a desire to not want to be pushed around in this game and I got to tell you from talking to people in the facility on the team the one word that people keep using over and over in regards to this game is the word physical match the Ravens physicality don't get overpowered by a team that might be motivated themselves Hannah but what happened eight months ago in the AFC title game the Chiefs know they're the team that everybody wants to be expect a very motivated number 15 tonight you mean that AFC title game which the Ravens didn't run the football that one yeah uh Lamar Jackson is now trimmed down uh the Ravens obviously have Super Bowl aspirations they have darck Henry in the fold what are Lamar's teammates saying about his approach to the season yeah you know Hannah as reporters you always hear about people being in the no right I would say that Lamar Jackson is very much in the now I spoke to one of his teammates tiend Isaiah likely part of what some believe is the most dangerous tight end tandem in the league alongside Mark Andrews now he tells me not is can the Kansas City Chiefs get Travis Kelce going again the way that they did against the Baltimore Ravens early on in that game in the AFC Championship catches in the first half he was virtually Unstoppable by the Baltimore Ravens and if you're the Baltimore Ravens what can you do to combat that knowing that now there's Xavier worthy also Isaiah Pacho out of the back field coupled with a guy like rased rice is there going to be away for the Baltimore Ravens with a new defensive coordinator to stop Travis Kelce from Patrick Mahomes and how can that Ravens Run game affect what they do offensively but also keeping Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce off of the field when you go back to the AFC championship last year everyone knows that Todd monin should have run the football more they had two early runs in the second half and then they totally got away from it because they got scared that it wasn't going to work you now have Derk Henry the Zone RPO game should be huge for the Baltimore Ravens will they be able to stick with it with Lamar Jackson seeming superum at practice and lastly what are you going to do with situational football the Kansas City Chiefs are the best team in the world because late in halves late in games late in Downs in the Red Zone they're the best that there is in this entire NFL in these huge games last year the Detroit Lions were able to get ahead able to win in this very same game because they were better in situational football than the Kansas City chief War can the Baltimore Ravens and John hobaugh find a way that in the most critical and crucial moments of this game at Arrowhead they could be better than the reigning defending two-time champion and that is what Ryan is eying Ryan Clark thank you much my friend we'll see you a the thing the other big storyline here is about a player who isn't here Hassan reck that pass rusher that they wanted so desperately traded for he still has not reported now Robert salad their head coach said he is not officially ruled out it's still feasible that he will play Monday night but Jay while he's not officially ruled out it's very unlikely we'll see Hassan reck back in the building they lost in week one last year Baltimore will be desperate because they were victims in the AFC Championship Game a season ago which they were almost close to winning besides that Z flowers fumble Kingsley Su matua and wide out Xavier worthy and second can the Chiefs defense repeat what it did last season they finished second in points allow behind only the Ravens in limited Baltimore to just 10 points in that AFC Championship Game tying its lowest total in any game now two things that haven't changed for these teams the quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes have combined to win four of the last six MV Awards but when they faced off Hannah it's been momes and the Chiefs who've come out on top Patrick's 86 qbr against Lamar Is His Highest against any starting q that he's faced knows where I stand you know I don't I don't agree with him in his assertion but I would say the same because I think they're going to be good enough to get to the playoffs as I roamed around Dallas telling folks they G be good enough to get to the playoff and then he going to go home and that's how it's going to be he ain't win no damn Super Bowl championship he threw me a back a little bit when he said fellas that he thought that they were better because I didn't see that I'm like what have you done in the off season but he said there were guys we had on the roster that were good enough to play that we didn't see last year so in other words don't lean on what you've seen thus far what can I say if I haven't seen it all I could do is say I don't believe it I got to see it to believe it we'll see what happens this is the ultimate cya out of Jerry Jones so the team is better one would have to start with Talent so to sit there and say we're better would imply that we are more talented than they were last year five separate pieces of of people or or coaches that were a part of that football team last year that aren't not on the team because they weren't good enough but they went and got paid more money somewhere else this is Jerry Jones setting it up saying no no no we I expected us to be better yeah and the expectations are going to be higher and you got to go do more and I'm giving you less they haven't brought anyone in we went all through our free agency and every single day instead of talking about all the guys that were signing across the league a lot of what was being spoken about is it's been it's been really quiet in Dallas all right let's continue the conversation with senior NFL Insider Adam schfer Adam what are people around the league saying about the off season Dallas has had Jay was a passive offseason they reacted rather than acted out everybody expected early on that they would get Dax signed to some type of extension that would provide cap relief and give this team more flexibility that didn't happen they thought that the CD lamb deal would get done ahead of some of the other receiver deals that didn't happen there were a number of things that didn't happen with this team that seemed to sit back and essentially not add in a lot of Key Parts now there's some young talent in place and they have the chance to have a really good season because they do have some good players and a good foundation but the fact of the matter is it was a passive off season for the Dallas Cowboys and they're hoping that that will be enough to help this team advance to the next level that it was unable to get to last season Adam you mentioned the talks between Dak and the team where the discussions stand right now on a long-term deal for their quarterback they haven't made a lot of progress as far as I can tell now I think what happens Jay is as you get right on the cusp of the start of the regular season they're always seems to be some sort of push for teams and players to get a deal done at the last moment to see if they could get something in place before the regular season kicks off but right now it's Tracking not to happen though any could happen in the next couple of days you have to see if anything changes but I don't think they've made a lot of progress so far to make people think that a deal could or would get done before the opener something would have to change between now and the time the Cowboys kick off the season Sunday in Cleveland against the Browns that could happen but right now it is not tracking to happen which would mean Dak would be headed into the last year of his contract there's another big contract question in Cincinnati which Jamar Chase where do things stand between him and the Bengals Jay the two sides have been engaged in I would say active talks and here's the thing if we go back one year ago to the day that the NFL regular season kicked off the Chiefs and lions kicked off their game in Kansas City and roughly 10 minutes later the Bengals and Joe burrow finalized a deal that made Joe burrow the highest paid player in NFL history these two sides are working to try to make something like that happen again they know the regular season begins on Sunday they know Jamar wants a long-term deal they know the Bengals want to get this done they're working through their differences trying to see if there's a common ground in which these two sides can get a deal done if we go by the history of what happened last year that would tell you that the Bengals and Jamar Chase would find a way to get a deal of this magnitude done they're working on it they've been working on it and we'll see if they could find a way to get that deal done folks in Cincinnati are hoping
