welcome back to your lone start grid on report I'm Jeff power joined now by Allen Aldrich former Houston cougar NFL Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos and now head coach here at Bush high school it's been quite a journey for you let's go back a little ways first of all tell me about just when did you realize you wanted to be a coach just had an early age I'm outside my father coat he was a coach for 30 years you know and he always came home and happy was just working with kids and things like that so I saw him doing them I have a family full of educators that's just I kind of knew what I want to do the excitement of being involved in a Super Bowl you talked about seeing John Elway do the helicopter you knew you were gonna get a Super Bowl ring when you saw that exactly exactly I was just one of those moments where you know okay we're gonna pull this thing out take me back now modern times you get the ring but when you show these kids what do they say well man when I first got here when I first got to Bush in 2005 it was like oh wow oh let's go to Aldridge and but now I'm just a regular coach you know I bring the ring out every once in a while and it's fun for the freshman to see but right now I'm just coach Aldridge what's the message you have for the kids what do you try to tell them to get them better just my main thing is just hard work and dedication to what you want to do you know whatever it is in life that you know football is just temporary it's something you do for fun but hard work and dedication now you're an assistant coach for Bush first take me back which side of the ball were you coaching and how did that lead to being the head coach actually I was a defensive line line coach in 2005-2006 moved to linebackers coach 2007 defensive coordinator then 2008 became head coach and what's it like being the head coach I've had some good teams here great athletes here at Busch high school right right man the first two years were rough for us you know in the next four years we did pretty well last year we kind of felt like we had a lot of seniors to graduate you know this year we're still fighting and trying to find our way Wade Freeman had a big game for Bush tonight 258 yards passing three touchdowns kind of his coming out party if you will this season right right we were real excited to see him play well we hope that he can build on that you know for next week but we thought that he played his friend the world I was our major concern I thought the key play of the game was right after Marshall had scored a touchdown one of your coaches came up Freeman and said listen let it go throws a deep touchdown pass next thing I know the same coach comes over and gives him a chest bump what did he say this and how that was a great little moment you know I don't know I have to find out but I'm pretty sure that's what he said you know hey just let it go man don't worry about anything and worry about mistakes just you know have fun and that's what it's all about I mean these kids are out here giving it all they've got and a hard-fought win against Fort Bend Marshall a team that's been the playoffs three straight years right right man they were in the same boat as us you know and a really good game for I think for both of us we learned a lot hopefully we can build on it for next week I did want to ask you about the fact that four teams make the playoffs in each district and when you get a big independent school district like Fort Bend is you get a chance to four makes sense in this district doesn't it it makes a lot of sense I mean some good football being played in this district and me obviously around the whole state but yeah for for making it we're trying to get one of those spots and I heard you're Houston Cougars beat SMU tonight on top of all that that's great that's great I'm the U of H alum Houston Cougars all the way so I'm happy for them very good for one year vege loan to another Allan Aldridge joining us thanks everyone for being with us again check out Lone Star gridiron comm for more Lone Star gridiron comm access the complete history of Texas high school football over 100 years of information win-loss records coaching histories individual stats records and more Lone Star gridiron the authority on Texas high school football
