Minnesota Football Running Back Darius Taylor’s Status | Minnesota vs North Carolina Preview

[Music] [Applause] [Music] well the health of star running back Darius Taylor is in question and Minnesota is going to be playing a team in North Carolina that's also replacing a lot in M Brown's hosting North Carolina the two of them played to the tune of a h controlled victory for the North Carolina Tar Heels as they come into this season it's the final year for Ma Brown after Drake May leaves for the NFL as a second overall pick and they're replacing him with Max Johnson who's likely going to start I'm going to project him to start here even though I do believe that there is an outside shot that jacobe chriswell will be named the starter they're going to give the ball to amarian Hampton quite a bit but the question is going to be is that offensive line going to be up to par they're going to be going up against a very experienced defense in Minnesota that is going to be expected to be one of the better ones in in a big 10 and very quietly so now Minnesota has their running back Darius Taylor who was leaned on heavily in the bowl game the last time we saw the Golden Gophers he had 208 yards on 35 carries against the Bowling Green Falcons but he is already banged up and injuries were a problem for the young freshman a year ago as he enters the sophomore year he has said in the offseason that his Focus was going to be to get healthy for this season and focus on his and yet we're already seeing issues as far as injuries go so his status is still up in the air as of about a week ago and nothing new has broke about Darius Taylor's Health other than any sort of Message Board rumors that you would have but despite this the Minnesota Golden Gophers are indeed the home favorite and the reason why is because of that defense but also they bring in Max brosmer who comes in from FCS New Hampshire and he had so many moments where he looked good including an NOA 400 yard passing game against the central Michigan chipa was the FBS opponent that New Hampshire had a year ago however that was heavily carried by the uh running back ability of Dylan lby through the air specifically he's on the uh Las Vegas Raiders right now 295 yards receiving though and some of that was a little bit of checkdown stuff and Yak stuff some of it was designed screen stuff and then a couple of it was a little bit more downfield field stuff as well brosmer definitely played great in that game and great played great through the stretch though he's definitely got good decisionmaking abilities he's a Steady Hand That Minnesota really needs but he's not going to beat you with pure arm Talent he's not a guy who's going to be an early round draft pick you're not going to be getting that he's not even a cam Ward as far his as his ability coming from the FCS to the FBS and throwing the football doesn't have Dynamic legs the way that a guy like Matthew sluka over at UNLV does coming from that level of the FCS to the FBS but what he does have is a good balance of it all great decision- making an ability to be able to take off and run but also an ability to to make clutch plays and make clutch decisions down the stretch he's gonna have Daniel Jackson to throw to this year who I think is going to be at the peak of his powers after being the wide receiver number one a year ago he's a guy that's a total package great hands great after the catch a physical finisher when he has the ball in his hands I think that Daniel Jackson has potential to have his biggest year as a Minnesota Golden Gopher today so now on the North Carolina side a lot of questions on both sides of the ball whether or not their offensive line is going to be up to par whether or not they're going to have wide receivers up to par whether or not their quarterback will be good enough I think their wide receivers will be fine I think that they'll have good tight end play with copen hver and Bryson Nesbit but I do wonder about the quarterback consistency and I do wonder about the offensive Line's ability to protect I think that early on if they do go with Max Johnson you're G to be craving for that mobility of jacobe Criswell and I think Minnesota's gonna Force North Carolina's hand here to be able to play that backup and I also don't trust that North Carolina defense even if it's revamped a little bit to be able to make enough Big Time plays for them to consistently get Minnesota off of the field if Darius Taylor plays in this game and he is you know 90% healthy or whatever the case may be I think Minnesota runs away with this game Darius Taylor doesn't play I still think Minnesota's going to be able to run the ball but it might be a tougher challenge for Minnesota to win one player to me should not make especially a running back though should not make that big of a difference I think and I have flipped my tune here I think the Minnesota Golden Gophers are going to win this ball game being 17th and returning production on the defensive side of the ball is absolutely outstanding they're top 20 in returning production regardless they're going to be a very solid football team to watch out for this year that's going to give a lot of teams in the Big 10 a run for their money and I think that they're going to show that statement on Thursday night with their opening game in Minneapolis against North Carolina so I have the Minnesota gold gold goers beating North
