game because Aaron Nola was just simply straight de heing in tonight's ball game and you know what I sure changed him last night I was like you know here you go arinola give me 90 pitches tonight give me six Innings give me two runs go ahead and match Zack Wheeler's deal from the previous night give me backto back Aces let's get back to the number one in number onea in this rotation and just go out there and straight dominate against this Houston Astros team you know what I saw tonight I saw more than that I saw seven scoreless against the Houston Astros from arinola tonight I saw Nick castiano go out there and get a three-run jack for this Phillies offense and then most importantly and this brings me into three big things I'm going to start at number three and number three is not GNA be one person oh no no no no no and I'm not going to split it either I'm not going to do the one and one a with that like I have done in the past I'm not gonna do that right now but number three when you talk about the three big things I hate to put anybody before the team like one and two are going to be on this list the Phillies have just won four games in a row the Phillies won four G games in a row when they took three from the Nationals before they won the last game of the brief two game series against the Marlins in that series before they went down to Atlanta and lost two of three but the Phillies have not only won four in a row for just the second time since the allstar break uh but the Phillies now have a shot at winning five in a row something they haven't done since May you understand that do you understand you get it you get you not since May the Phillies haven't won five games in a row it's been a minute it and then I didn't realize until I started figuring out hold they going to win back-to-back series because I was excited that they're going to win the back-to-back series and I was saying not only they winning back-to-back series but you know what they're doing they're winning back-to-back Series against more than plus500 teams you're talking about the Houston Astros first place team you're talking about the uh the Kansas City Royals two 70 plus win teams that you're going to face these aren't scrubs that you're going to face here these aren't the Nationals if you know what I'm saying these are good ball clubs and the Phillies just won two Series in a row against 70 win teams like the Houston Astros and the Kansas City Royals did you know and I didn't realize this until I looked it up but I was like oh my God they're about to win not this back toback series but against two good teams in the Royals and the Astros the Phillies haven't won back-to-back Series in two months June 22nd through the 26 against the Diamondbacks of all teams they took two or three and then against the Detroit Tigers where they took two or three that's the last time that's the last time the Phillies have won back-to-back series and somehow yet they are still among one of the best teams in baseball if you could figure that out somehow magically I'd like to know how that's possible but baseball's a funny game from what I understand so of the three big things number three on the list is just overall congratulations to this baseball team congratulations JT real Muto Bri Harper Trey Turner Alec bow I know has had some struggles but somehow he still keeps getting hits for this Phillies team Brandon Mars as well starting to get hot as of late all this good job by them because those are the guys that have really been turning it on as of late in this Phillies lineup so credit them credit the pitching staff credit the bullpen that over the last week of the season has been bringing it and credit your starting pitching especially tonight uh as far as that lineup goes let's jump into number two right there Nick castanos Justin Verlander facing nick castios uh his former teammate as they alluded to a couple of different times in tonight's ball game uh he went up there against Justin Verlander and he found himself a pitch to hit now here's what's really interesting about that whole situation okay the Phillies went up there in that particular inning and they had a couple of different opportunities to smash hanging curveballs from Justin Verlander and I know typically throws a pretty deep um 126 curveball pretty deep heavy hook on it okay it's not a quick snap it's not a quick break it's a looping 126 curveball this seemed to be a little bit thrower uh excuse me a little bit slower through the zone as we have seen from Justin Verlander over the last couple of years of his career so for me watching him tonight throw those pitches the way he was throwing those pitches I thought it was rather interesting that the Phillies weren't taking advantage of it but Lo and behold Justin berlander goes out there tonight and he Loops one in particular to Nick castios and what does Nick castanos do he hits a three run home run to help the Phillies in route to this five nothing Victory his 18th home run of the season and he only looks like a guy that is getting more and more comfortable in at the plate here's the way I love the way that inning played out in particular third inning scoreless ball game Austin Hayes gets a not just a hit off a righty go figure but Austin Hayes gets a hit off Justin ferlander and he puts it against left field wall he gets there to second base for a lead off double uh Kyle schwarber flies out to right field now he got a run around second base with one out Trey Turner this is where Lady Luck is on your side again Trey Turner's up against ferlander it's an 02 count ferlander Rings him up on a fast ball that dots the outside corner and it like was inside the White box like all of it was inside the white box and just viewing it watching it it was definitely over the corner of the plate didn't dust the corner he hit the corner okay with authority however home played umpire Nick lent let's pause right there remember last night when I told you I could be extremely unbiased when it comes to the umpires when it comes to balls and Strikes I call it both ways I call it as I say it I'm not just a homer a lot of times I can be but now with this I am a I am a I love accuracy and unbiased opinions about balls and Strikes last night the Umpire for the Phillies was terrible good to the Astros terrible to the Phillies tonight Nick lent the home played umpire was wonderful to the Phillies they would definitely went back the other way and there is the Epson flows of the season so Nick lent back to the third inning Nick lens calls that outside that that inside pitch that third strike calls it a ball very next pitch Trey Turner puts one into right field for an RBI single makes it a a one- nothing Phillies lead uh bringing home Austin Hayes then Bryce Harper steps up he gets a single to left field then Alec bom steps up he strikes out in a one-w slider not even close he flails away at it unfortunately uh that should have been the last out of the inning if you go back to it but it wasn't now you got Harper on uh now you got uh in that inning got Trey Turner and that's when Nick casano stepped up in an 01 count and took full advantage of that big looping curveball coming down through the strike zone and he whammied it 397 feet did Nick castanos and just like that it's a four nothing lead Phillies would had one more oned Alec bow about luck Alec Bam off the hands puts it into center field it drops between um gel it drops in between Altuve and Peña in center field for an RB I double in the Box Score it's a line drive baby it's a slap in the Gap you know what I'm saying oh my goodness and you get the philli to go up five nothing at that point and then they Clos it out uh so Nick casanas is my number two of three big things today number one Aaron Nola tossing seven scorel less in the manner in which he did was amazing very much in control throughout the ball game had uh two innings I believe it was no one inning where he went over 20 pitches uh he threw 16 in the first inning 11 in the second 13 in the third 24 in the fourth 18 in the fifth 10 in the sixth and then he just kept dealing into that seventh inning where I believe it was just nine pitches in that seventh inning to get him to 101 pitches overall that's the guy right there that you haven't seen a lot of this season in terms of consistency especially in the latter stages of the second half or first half of the season the beginning of the second half of the season but the guy that we saw pitch tonight is a guy that will help you win a lot of playoff games and that's what you got tonight from arinola uh when it was all said and done like I said he threw 101 pitches tonight he struck out six issued one walk and only allowed seven excuse me four hits in the seven Innings that he tossed 102 pitches excuse me is what he wrapped up at tonight love seeing that from Aaron Nola and this is this is what I found so incredible with him tonight the knuckle curveball which is normally his bread and butter putaway pitch Nola was cranking up that fast ball a little bit by Aaron Nola standards at like 94 miles per hour and he did it in a couple of different instances he used the knuckle curve in the four first inning to get Diaz to end that inning uh earlier in that inning he was using the fast ball against bregman threw a 93 mile per hour fast ball up and in to sit him down for his first strike out of the game his second strikeout came against Diaz with that knuckle curve ball then as the game went on he he faced U gel in the second inning got him with a sinker up in the zone used that two seamer with that great run on it for his third strikeout as the game went on he would later face altu excuse me he later face bregman after Altuve stole second base in the third inning he struck him out on a fast ball 3-2 pitch up and in again 94 miles per hour Aaron Nola buzzing dudes with the fast ball tonight uh and he just kept it coming all night long and the only inning again that he had some struggles in where I thought he might be losing his arm slot was that fourth inning where he threw 24 pitches uh Alvarez started off with the ground out to first base but he's had a 3-2 count seven pitched bat struck out Diaz again with the fast ball up and a five pitch at bat in that fourth inning and then Singleton he walked it was a 3-2 count eight pitches in total and then he was able to get out of it after that by uh getting pain you to fly out to center field on a four- pitch at bat but that was Nola dialing it back in and then there really wasn't a big concern after that he had back-to-back singles that he allowed in the fifth inning he was at 65 pitches at the start of the fifth inning compare that to what um wheeler was at last night 79 pitches by the fifth inning so Nola was only at 65 back-to-back singles then he gets dubon to line out to center field altu to line out on a humpback line drive to Trey Turner who I don't know if this is the right turn saade Peri I don't know did that thing where he reached back and caught it uh that was good and uh yeah Noah was able to get out of it after that and got bregman to fly out to right field to end the threat uh sixth inning he cruised seventh inning he cruised and it was all in route to his 12th win of the season three big things tonight Philly's getting their fourth straight win and second and now back toback Series wins for the first time in two months Nick castiano three-run home run the big hit of the game and then Aaron Nola threw out his seven score list against the stros tonight there's some good news about Taiwan Walker starting tomorrow night I I will say this much there's some good news about taiwon Walker starting tomorrow night he also faces someone who like him him who liked taian walker uh he also sucks so enjoy the ball game anybody go into the game tomorrow we'll break that down as we always do in our final segment but when we come back we'll take a look at some other guys in this lineup tonight that definitely deserve our praise and one thing with Alec B an All-Star a guy who was great in the Home Run Derby a guy that's playing for the most part a great third base and oh yeah by the way in the lead in doubles all season long and is your cleanup hitter and earn the cleanup hitter job this season despite always hitting well with Runners and scoring position I know they rattled off the numbers tonight uh during the game and I think I still have them uh coming into tonight Alec bow seven for excuse me 17 for 71 and his last 71 at bats with runners in scoring position that's 240 this is a guy that we're used to seeing hit damn near 400 with runners in scoring position so I get that he's down on himself but the man is still helping this ball Club win I mean we're just talking about two games ago before tonight he had three RBIs against the Royals tonight he still got a hit it fell in for him it was off the hands but how many times did he hit a ball and then knows and it goes right at the second basement or goes right at the third basement or just a deep Fly ball to the warning track it's the and flows to the game and I would imagine that when Bryce Harper had his arm around him three games ago he was saying dude you got this we know you got this and then he responded with a three RBI three RBI night with two hits and then tonight he gets another hit like you would think this guy is in the midst of like an over 30 slump and ain't the case August has not been his best best month uh not even close I mean we can talk about that obviously too but Alec po man you're good bro you're good you got this if you do look at his splits though in the month of August it's like it's not even that bad um I know lately if you want to talk about his last couple of weeks those last two weeks coming into tonight he was hting 234 over the last seven days not including tonight he was hitting 143 so I get it like you're going to have bad stretches but even in that time you're coming out of it with a three RBI night and another RBI tonight so for me I I don't get it with Omer but if this is the if this is the bar he's gonna hold himself to if this is the pressent he's gonna set himself at have at it son because you're gonna be a lot better striving for that kind of perfection as long as you don't grip the bat too tight as long as you don't commit mental errors like you saw against the Kansas City Royals you're gonna be fine dude you're gonna be fine also I know I mentioned it already but one of the guys in this lineup that I will celebrate momentarily is Austin Hayes I if you guys have heard me talking about Austin Hayes I don't like Austin Hayes I like him against lefties his second hit of the game was against the Lefty so myself on I'm back for that one but he got a uh he got a double off Justin Verlander who I don't know if you followed his career or not but he's definitely a right-handed pitcher and Austin Hayes put it to the wall so there you go good job Austin Hayes tonight congratulations still with like to see Yo on Roos and Centerfield Brandon Marsh left field but you know whatever all right uh when we come back we're going to take a look at your comments what you guys want to say about this game what you guys have said about this game we'll go through the comment section and then we'll also take a look at what the Phillies and Astros have coming up for game three tomorrow late afternoon 4:05 star time loses this battle and he's like pulled in the fourth inning you know what to do I told you last night let's do it again let's review it okay then don't boo Taiwan Walker if you're at the game don't boo him don't boo Rob Thompson turn your back to the field look up at the owner's box look up at uh you know the front office if you will and boo the hell out of them because they're the ones doing this there's no way taiw Walker should be making another start for the Philadelphia Phillies no way and there's an easy out that the Phillies are ignoring because I'm not talking about just DFA them and eating a 8 million cash sandwich or excuse me $18 million cash sandwich okay with a little mayo maybe little oil and vinegar but for me uh no I think the happy middle ground is you shut them down for the year because you didn't even use him in the postseason anyway and you mean to tell me that he's all of a sudden G to be a better pitcher than he was last year now does make any sense I'd rather Co beard go out there and deal for four five or six innings for the Phillies then see Taiwan I'd rather see Tyler Phillips go out there and pitch and he hasn't even been good in his last couple of starts in the big leagues rather see that happen because at least I know there's some development going on there it's the only only option they really going to trot him out there front of these Phillies fans with a sweep on the line and you haven't swept a team since the Dodgers series in Philly okay okay maybe the Phillies looked at the the the the schedule and they said hey you know this p i to G the guy he's not very good either you know what I mean uh he comes into this game six and 11 on the season with a just sub five ER 494 ER on the season uh he is coming off though his best start of the year it seems like uh six Innings scoreless Baseball three hits against the Baltimore Orioles he did have one seven scoreless inning performance against the Colorado Rockies that was not in Colorado uh so six scoreless is his second best start of the Season uh he had 10ks against the Rockies and then when he faced the Orioles he had just he had six strikeouts so he's he's coming off a really good start so here's one thing that's interesting about him though he doesn't really have good back-to-back starts so the Phillies have that going for him uh he's a right-handed pitcher he's 24 years old and he'll be bringing it against the Phillies tomorrow as he continues his rookie season with his 24th Big League start and his 24th start of the season that's what's going on tomorrow night let's see what you guys have to say about this one with the Phillies taking it to the Astros tonight in a five nothing Victory uh what's going on here John Marinelli Nikki boy bringing the lumber tonight Hayes had a couple of hits too I gave him credit Nola shoved it was glorious shoved what's going on there Joseph Clinger what's going on astronomical love the play on words dad jokes are appreciated ibh oh Baby that that's called a winning a winning a four game winning streak what is Hall of Fame put them in there with the 27 Yankees John Marinelli just win baby ring the bell bam man damnn right he was Babs what's going on Babs Bary I think Verlander is older than you hold on he might be older than me I hope he's older than me my good friend jod McDonald Phil Philadelphia people know jod Mack um he said you're not old until there is no one in sports that is uh older than you so he hung on to what was his name Julio Franco he held on to Julio Franco for a long time I held on to Tom excuse me Tom Brady for a long time uh how old is old Justin berlander this should be easy why is this not easy for me I think he's 41 if he's not 41 is he 42 please be 42 he was born on he just turned 40 he's 41 I'm turning 4 oh damn it I'm older than him by seven months bastard okay well that's depressing all right have to find somebody else who's old uh thanks anyway Babs uh Louie Lou adario what's going on can we call the guy Tanya Harding used to Club we do not go with violence no violence Tim go what's going on uh Nola was awesome tonight was glad B got a hit against the three sues in the Outfield laugh out loud Cassy is swinging the bat pretty damn well well here's the thing with Nick casianos Nick casan has been hitting well for a really long time and now if he's gonna start with the long ball and maybe get 25 home runs on the season maybe he goes off maybe has a nice little run here he's got 18 right now with about a month left let's have at it son Evelyn what's going on Raymond Clark what's going are we back I surely hope so again I'm not saying if Phillies are back to anything they're back they're beating bad baseball teams now they're back and they're beating good baseball teams but I'm not going to go with like the Phillies are back until they take three or four from the Braves that's when I'm gonna be like they're back baby we're back Christopher Kelly The Three Stooges yeah they definitely look like The Three Stooges uh gonna need six more wins in a row now there you go Remo Remo k get it up to 10 wait Michael Evans if you listen carefully you could still hear my entire family screaming after bom's Double there you go the RBI double nice kjb officer via asked the questions uh good thing we took the series with ti butt cheeks Walker on the bump tomorrow that's going to be on his that was part of the deal I think that the the philes were like yeah Taiwan you can go out there and you can start but you have to put butt cheeks on the back of your jersey I'm sorry that's that's these this what's going to happen okay I'll do it and then he goes out there and he throws seven scoreless I guess I'll wear the butt cheeks Jersey all the it MP I hope though like I never Roo against these guys I just make my predictions Lisa Wicks what's going on there you are great win boys not excited about Walker starting tomorrow night I can see an upcoming loss I think most people see the same thing fly high 79 who knows maybe Walker will pitch better tomorrow sure let's you know what let's do that let's let's go with that energy uh breaking
